This review is from: Troubleshooting Oracle Performance (Paperback)
This book arrived from Amazon yesterday, so this is not an in-depth review.
First impression: Chris provides a practical, often task-oriented approach, with flow diagrams, to approaching performance tuning. He builds on the work of others, especially Oak Table members, to brings a clear and concise direction for an often a difficult task.
Just skimming through, I've already picked up a few pointers. I am certainly looking forward to working through the book in detail. But from what I've seen so far, this will be on my 'immediate access' bookshelf for a long time to come.
I like the approach. For example, Chapter 8 on Parsing starts with 'Identifying Parsing Problems', goes on to 'Solving Parsing Problems' and 'Working Around Parsing Problems' for those rather frequent cases where the code is not accessible.
He describes which information to gather, what to look for in the results, and what the next steps could be. Fully supported with practical examples and diagrams to make the material easy to understand.
Congratulations and thanks to Chris (and the support team) for making this available.
