This novel is priceless, I read it 20 years ago and decided to pick up the series again with the aquisition of the sixth novel...I want to enjoy all the earlier novels again before reading the last installment. You won't be disappointed, this book is so well written you'll marvel and the story telling.

This one is for sure going in the shelf. When I first started ready this I had no idea what it was about, I just knew it had good reviews. I can see why, it is soo good. Loved the story and I loved all the characters. I even loved ready about the ones I didn't like so much.I just happened to start eating paleo at the time, which is based on a caveman's diet so it was only fitting that I should stumble upon this book.

I READ THIS BOOK BACK IN THE EIGHTIES AND WAS SO IMPRESSED I HAVE READ THE ENTIRE "EARTH'S CHILDREN" SIX BOOK SERIES. THEY ARE NEVER BORING, I HAVE BEEN LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE VISITED SOME OF THE SITES IN FRANCE DISCRIBED IN THE BOOKS. THE AUTHOR HAS MANAGED TO LINK MANY ANCIENT ARTIFACTS TO THE CHARACTERS DEPICTED. FICTION BASED ON FACTS WELL RESEARCHED. TOO BAD THERE WILL BE NO MORE BOOKS. IT WOULD HAVE MADE A WONDERFUL TV SERIES.

This was a very interesting novel. I actually re-read it twice, so far. The sequels leave something to be desired, but I would definitely recommend this one!

way too much,

I am not usually so critical, and I must admit I read several of the books years ago, but I finally put them down without reading the rest because there was just too many descriptions of sex in them. The detailed and varied descriptions were simply unneccesary for a book that is touted as a "must read" for women as young as 10!

I can only say that this is one of the most entertaining series of books from author Jean Auel. I ordered it to have the complete set in both Hard Cover and Paperback sets.I am awaiting release in March 2011 of Jean's final book in this series, which I will be ordering from Amazon in both Hardcover and Paperback editions, later in 2010,andhopefully the price will decrease slightly, especially in the Paperback selection. I have re read the series multiple times while awaiting new releases.

The only one of the series worth reading,
By Natalya (Columbia, MO USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Clan of the Cave Bear (Earth's Children, Book One) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is good in its detailed descriptions of Neanderthals' way of life, customs and beliefs. I enjoyed reading about the climate, flora and fauna of the region and how people adapted to it, especially about the medicinal purposes of so many "modern age" plants. Who would have thought that willow bark is a painkiller? Despite some really ridiculous claims like the ability of Neanderthals to inherit the memories of life evolution on Earth (complete with water-to-earth and back to water transitions of marine mammals), the book is overall believable and makes an enjoyable weekend read. But reader beware! This is the only book of the Earth's Children series worth reading. All the sequels to this book are progressively worse, loosing any shreds of realism (and plain common sense) and overflowing with absolutely ridiculous historical claims and repetitive sex scenes. If you don't want to be bitterly disappointed, resist the temptation to read sequels to this book! |
