5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome - the best I've seen in years!
This is a wonderful instructional yoga DVD. As a yoga teacher, I have seen many, and by far, this is going to become a classic! I have not seen anything as beautiful since Yoga, Mind and Body (Ali Macgraw & Erich Schiffmann).

The shots are stunning, the music wonderful, and with so many options to build your own yoga matrix, or turn off the narrative, and just watch and listen to the music - you will be thrilled.

This is a terrific resource and I love that the arm balances and hip openers are shown in progressive form. It's suitable for all levels, into an intermediate level practitioner.

You will not be sorry if you order this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars ecstatic yoga!, Nov 11 2005

Dawn (Kelowna, Canada) - See all my reviews
I ordered this dvd after years of consistent ashtanga vinyasa yoga practice. Though I have a real genuine love of ashtanga vinyasa yoga, I felt it was time to start having more fun with the asana practice. I have experienced Shiva's teaching in the past, and was happy to give this dvd a try sight unseen.
The yoga matrix component to the dvd is truly intelligent design and so user friendly. This allowed me the ability to fashion my own practice, from a few minutes to a full practice, with ease. The solar and lunar choices are beautifully shot with amazing music and scenic splendour.
Shiva has included some very challenging poses, however, she shows a progression so that any practitioner from beginner forward can enjoy a full practice.
Shiva is a truly enlightened teacher with so much playful energy. You can feel her love for the practice through the whole dvd.
I still have the dvd, after a year, and use it frequently though the asana sequences are extrememly familiar to me.
I would highly recommend this dvd to any yogini.
Namaste!

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE LOVE LOVE IT, April 24 2006
By A Customer
This is my favourite yoga DVD. The fact that I can choose everyday what I want to work one is really great and I don't get bored. She has a very soothing voice and the settings and music are beautiful. I am a relative beginner in yoga and some of the postures are too difficult for me, but they are an inspiration! Anyway, there are enough possibilities on this DVD to keep me busy! I really recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this DVD. Great service too!, Feb 4 2012
This review is from: Yoga Shakti (DVD)
Great DVD. Love the yoga matrix so that I can create as long, or short, a workout that I want depending on how much time I have.

I don't know why another reviewer suggested this would be good for beginners. I find I have to pick and choose which sequences I do because so many of them are beyond my ability, and I'm an intermediate yogi. It includes various poses only those with great ability can do. It also, of course, contains many sequences that are lovely and flowing and for lower-level practitioners. The production qualities are utterly fantastic, the setting a beautiful secluded sand bar in India, and the sequences are very calming.

The problem is that the DVD lacks whole routines. Rather, they have assembled various bits of sequences and ordered them into four collections (some are half hour and some are longer despite what the description on Amazon says). I find the lack of a full, thought out routine annoying because it means that some things might get neglected (I like a pretty total body yoga practice) and also means that one's flow is interrupted pretty regularly. I'm trying to sort out which segments I like and which I don't to make up my own routine (you can order them as you like) but it is a lot of work to figure it out and requires a ton of time and patience. So it means I really haven't made use of this DVD. So all in all, some good and some bad, but I wish she'd just do a few decent routines instead of the cut and paste thing.

Just FYI: I don't have any of her other workouts, but this is supposed to be her most conventional (her others are very free and creative to say the least).

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Done!, Feb 18 2006

This DVD has amazing world music and is challenging and fun. The sound track and beach in the back ground reminds me of travelling. The yoga routines themselves are way better than any yoga classes I've ever taken.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Inspirational, Sep 25 2008

Shiva Rea is perhaps the most inspiring yoga instructor out there (that's available on DVDs, as I'm sure there are many amazing yoga instructors teaching in local yoga studios).

I have been practicing the Yoga Shakti DVD for a couple of months now. It is so wonderful. Using her unique matrix system, you can "create" an abundant different sequences, mainly traditional sun and moon salutations (with Rea's own unique take on them). Shiva Rea's form is just perfect, every move and pose is flawlessly executed.

This practice is not for the absolute beginner. I pop in this DVD when I'm feeling energetic and ready to take on a challenge. I'm always glad I did, as I usually feel so amazing afterwards. It reminds me of when I use to walk home after a taking a class at an amazing yoga studio in Toronto, and I felt like I was walking on a cloud, as every muscle tingled with energy. That's how I feel after a Yoga Shakti "class". That's never happened with any other home practice DVD.

I have been practicing yoga for 14 years now, and taught "power yoga" at the last gym I worked at before kids. For the past 7 years though, I've been mainly practicing yoga at home, and so I have collected a huge array of yoga DVDs. Many are boring and mechanical, except for the Namaste series, and now the Shiva Rea DVDs.

So if you've been practicing yoga for several years and are bored of your routine, then I highly recommend trying one of Shiva Rea's inspiring DVDs. She'll take you to another - spiritually moving - level, and perhaps rekindle your love of yoga.

5.0 out of 5 stars Elegant and beautiful, Jan 12 2006

i have recently come into yoga, and at first thought i had bought this DVD and it was way out of my league. I am happy to find that it is not. Though i have not left basic flow, i have watched the others to get an idea of what she is about and to see her own flow.
She moves beautifully, and her team has done a wonderous job in creating this DVD, in comparison to others i have( which is many though a beginner) this one is visually stunning, and helps to create an atmosphere that is unmatched so far in my opinion.
I look forward to my daily flow, and then some, for my future with Shiva and yoga. I also definelty enjoy moving and flowing in yoga, it makes me feel pretty, like i am swimming in the air.
Silly, but it does.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Very Satisfactory!, Feb 23 2008
I was in the market for some at-home yoga DVDs. I've tried other DVDs, they were also effective but Shiva Rea's... Amazing! If you really want to get a closely authentic yoga work-out, this DVD is the one to buy! I've taken classes before, both meditative and relaxing, as well as hot yoga (Bikhram, Moksha, and a type of Vinyasa flow). As a beginner trying to learn how to align my body correctly, the instruction Shiva Rea gives really helps! She also gives you options for modification if you're just starting off and you can't even touch your knees!

I'm not trying to sell this DVD, but if you really want a thigh-to-shoulder-burn/hip-opening-spine-lengthening work-out, this video will do it! You also have the option to make it as difficult as you want! So, when you finally learn the "easy" asanas, and the work-out doesn't provide you with a warm fresh-from-yoga-class glow, you can add another on top of another "dancing warrior" series.

The only limitation with this video is that it mainly focuses on sun salutations, and warrior poses. Shiva Rea also does back-bends, shoulder/hand stands, forward bends and twists as well as other yoga practises (meditation, breathing, etc).

Shiva Rea is phenomenal!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely wonderful!!!, Dec 3 2007
By
Jackie P (Montreal, Qc) - See all my reviews
This is the first yoga dvd I have purchased (and actually, the first exercise video I ever bought). I was a little skeptical at first, as I am accustomed to doing courses at the gym. However, as life gets busier and time constraints don't really allow for this, I realized that it was time to get into exercising at home. I am pleased to say that Yoga Shakti has now become a huge part of my life! Shiva Rea's voice is comforting & soothing, the background brings peace, and the various routines included in this DVD are great!! They are challenging and definitely give you room for improvement. I highly recommend that anyone who loves yoga start off with this tape (as long as they're up for the challenge, a little more "upbeat" than most yoga courses I have taken). This dvd could receive nothing less than 5 stars!!!
