5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for fun training!
This book is perfect for training! Each training exercise has the hand signal, and verbal cue, as well as pictures of the Weimeraner doing each step of the training. I am very excited to start training our puppy with some of these tricks. Everything you could imagine... from the basics like sit, down, etc. to bringing you a beer from the fridge, or hiding his head in...

3.0 out of 5 stars Somehow, I think this might be beyond my dog..
My dog, Chutney, is a clever dog. He's a mini-poodle, on the smallish side. I bought this book hoping I could use his intelligence for good, rather than for the sorting of my laundry and the shredding of various important papers. Tricks in this book vary from sit and stay to training your dog to go to the fridge and get you a beer. I laughed myself senseless at the...

I laughed myself senseless at the thought of little Chutney trying to drag me a beer. Or open the fridge.
Still, there are excellent instructions about training with treats and also clickers, with lots of photographs of a dog much smarter than yours doing everything perfectly. It's vaguely depressing as you struggle to get your strong-minded pup to shake a paw, let alone retrieve newspapers, etc. But the bright colours and the apparent joy of the dog in performing these tricks makes it all seem possible. I figure if I start with those baby bottles of Corona....

5.0 out of 5 stars Kudos for Positive Training!, April 2 2007

Dog tricks are fun - they draw attention, spark conversations, bring pleasure and satisfaction to the dog handler. But more importantly, as this wonderful book demonstrates, they can be very beneficial to our dogs and our relationships with them. The positive training and motivational techniques taught in this book not only strengthen the bond between dog and human but also promote canine physical and mental health, safety, and happiness. The layout of the book is superb - beautiful step-by-step photos, hand signals, easy-to-follow instructions, and even troubleshooting. Bravo to Kyra Sundance and her associates! (Especially the dogs!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for having fun with your dog, Mar 14 2012
This review is from: 101 Dog Tricks: Step-by-Step Activities to Engage, Challenge, and Bond with Your Dog (Paperback)
The book is well written and provides lots of pictures with step-by-step instructions. It is not a book on basic training or behaviour, although the author is very knowlegable and has other books pertaining to dog training.
It's a book to have fun with your dog and provide mental stimulation - great for any dog! It also allows you to bond with your dog.

5.0 out of 5 stars 101 Dog Tricks, Feb 11 2012
This review is from: 101 Dog Tricks: Step-by-Step Activities to Engage, Challenge, and Bond with Your Dog (Paperback)
This has to be the best dog training book that I ever owned. I have been in dog training for many years and I have learned so much from this book - I am amazed how my young German Shepherd picks up from the easy (for me) to remember clues. I would give it a 10 out of 10 stars if there where more.

Thanks
Trudy

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, Nov 14 2009

Especially if you are not a fan of clicker training and doing things "old school" this is a great book.
It's a great book anyway because it lists several kinds of tricks and their difficulty levels, with step by step instructions on how to progress through the trick in order to teach it.
It also contains several other facts and guides to help such as common mistakes people can make while training dogs, and how to avoid them.
Great book!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not so great, Nov 8 2010
This review is from: 101 Dog Tricks: Step-by-Step Activities to Engage, Challenge, and Bond with Your Dog (Paperback)
This book does have a lot of ideas for tricks to teach your dog, but the instructions really aren't that great. There are definitely better books out there to teach dog tricks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great step-by-step, easy-to-follow book, Mar 19 2010

This book is a great resource for people who are looking for easy-to-follow training guide. Each trick is outlined on a single page, with concise step-by-step instructions, photos to demonstrate each step, debugging tips, and it also gives you an idea about how long it will take the average dog to learn the trick. The tricks are categorized in several different ways: by difficulty level, type of exercise, discipline. Strongly recommended!

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money, Aug 25 2011
This review is from: 101 Dog Tricks: Step-by-Step Activities to Engage, Challenge, and Bond with Your Dog (Paperback)
Don't bother buying this book.
There are better dog training sites on-line. They teach "trick" training... and they are FREE.
This book has pretty pictures and poor instructions.
Save your money.
