5.0 out of 5 stars A true collector
I've been waiting for decades to find these comics. I used to read and re-read them when i was 8. Can't be happier to get tthose BRAND NEW in hardcover for such a low price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Art good, stories bad.
I'm a bit conflicted over this product because the art is so good but good grief, the stories are horrible. A few stories are decent enough but overall...ugh... Rather than pick up the rest of the Creepy and Eerie books, which I was planning on doing, I am now looking at Vault of Horror as I've read that the stories are better. I have not ruled out buying another Creepy...

Keep in mind that this review is coming from someone who has had no prior experience with these kinds of books so I really did not know what to expect from them in term of quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Archives Vol.1 ... Creepy ... Vampires, Werewolves & Zombies (Dark Horse) (2008)", Oct 16 2011

Dark Horse Comics presents "CREEPY ARCHIVES VOL.1 HC" [Hardcover], Now it all comes back to me. I was already collecting 'Famous Monsters of Filmland' magazines, saw the ads of coming attractions. A new title on the horizon 'Creepy Magazine' gathered some of the best on their debut outing - Jim Warren (publisher), Russ Jones (editor), Archie Goodwin, Joe Orlando (story ideas), Ben Oda (lettering), many of the previous EC Comics team brought their talents to the forefront with embellisher's such as - Reed Crandall, Jack Davis, George Evans, Frank Frazetta, Roy Krenkel, Bob Lubbers, Gray Morrow, Joe Orlando, Alex Toth, Maurice Whitman, Al McWilliams, Al Williamson, and Angelo Torres, illustrations and storyline within 6 - 8 pages in length for your perverted enjoyment.

Remember when our host Uncle Creepy came into the lives of all the comic book fans, not since ECs horror years had we been this excited. This first installment brings on vampires, werewolves and zombies - just the perfect ingredients for scaring the pants off of you, all the time craving for more and the next issues to follow.

Nothing like this was on the newsstands to compete, Jim Warren and his staff had outdone themselves, as the pages of the first five stories will attest, but not to worry it even gets better in the coming issues. Dark Horse has maintained the magazines size as to the original with perfection, left in the original ads and letters for your reading pleasure.

For product description and editorial review check this out on the Amazon site above my review.

Special footnote: -- The greatest comic artists in the world bring you...tales of suspense, horror, mystery, the unknown and the weird. As mentioned by several other reviewers. The reproductions are outstanding, the artwork and stories are at the top of their game. The Frazetta covers are mesmerizing - Now that Dark Horse has our attention, open the doors and let the issues flow, in chronological order, please!

In closing - It is only natural to associate 'Creepy' with EC Comic group, definitely feel the artwork is better than EC's, with Creepy's own Gray Morrow, Angelo Torres and Bob Lubbers - What is considerably more important is the fact that the stories are in black and white, allowing an amount of shading undreamed of with colors, Frank Frazetta, Joe Orlando and Gray Morrow take full advantage and give class to their work...Here's to the success of Dark Horse and Creepy, may they keep the fans in complete horror!

Creepy Archives #1 looks great!
This and Eerie were the Best Horror "Comics" ever, the EC comics they were inspired from never reached these heights. Vampirella was to follow and was in my view the greatest comic Heroin ever, especially when drawn by Jose Gonzales, Jose Oritz or painted by Enrich or Sanjulian. (Her re-incarnations by Harris Comics were from bad to very good but not the same to me.)
The Rook and 1994 were good titles too but not as long lived. A lot of these artists moved onto Heavy Metal in the 70's and Warren Magazines, due to mismanagement were no more in the 80's. Uncle Creepy, Cousin Eerie and Vampirella will always be #1 in my books. Often copied but never duplicated. No one can argue that.
There are scores of other review here to fill in the curious blanks, all I can say is the magazine matured as it went on in the early 70's. But the art wqas first rate right from the start.
