This review is from: Herbie Archives Volume 2 (Hardcover)
Volume 2 of the Herbie Archives reprints nine Herbie comics published December 1964 to December 1965 (numbers 6-14) with two stories per issue. Herbie Archives Volume 1 reprinted Herbie comics 1-5 and earlier appearances in Forbidden Worlds. The third and final volume will reprint the final issues (numbers 15-23). The most notable feature of the second volume is the introduction of Herbie's superhero persona, the Fat Fury, with the same powers as Herbie, but disguised from his parents. As the Fat Fury, Herbie wears long red underwear, a blue mask and blue cape, and a plunger on his head. The Fat Fury is featured in even numbered issues from #8 on. In other stories, Herbie's dad's bad ideas are featured in four stories, and four stories feature time travel (with one story featuring time travel to bail out Dad from another one of his bad ideas). Herbie is occupied by a ridiculous assortment of villains including Mr. Dimwit (#6b), Captain Skullbones (#7b), Mr. Horrible (#8a), the Sheriff of Nottingham (#9b), Black Whack (#10a), Lovely Horowitz (#11a), Gorilla (#12a), the Fat Thief (#12b), Black Bottomley (#13a), and in #14a, Roderick Bump and his inept creations: Halfaman, Monkeyman, Pigman, Pizzaman, Frogman, and so on. Full descriptions of the stories are available at comics.org, so I will not repeat more.

Like the Tom Lehrer line on his albums: If you did not enjoy Herbie Archives Volume 1, then you will certainly not enjoy Volume 2. Contrapositively, if you do not like Tom Lehrer, I doubt you would like Herbie. Coincidentally, if you do like Herbie, then I think you might like Tom Lehrer's That Was the Year That Was or An Evening Wasted.
