5.0 out of 5 stars Consolidation
I appreciated the pragmatic, straightforward nature of this book. In an effort to become more mindful in my life, I have more books and CDs than I feel comfortable in admitting that I have purchased over the years. I'll clear that book shelf and leave this one standing. The plain language of the book made the process of mindfulness far more accessible than previous...

3.0 out of 5 stars Regurgitation
I have read several books on mindfulness by different authors. I really didn't care for this one. The way he tries to start people off with the mindfulness practice is rather unnerving. What beginner will sit for 20 - 30 minutes for their first attempt? Three minutes for the very first time is daunting!

I appreciated the pragmatic, straightforward nature of this book. In an effort to become more mindful in my life, I have more books and CDs than I feel comfortable in admitting that I have purchased over the years. I'll clear that book shelf and leave this one standing. The plain language of the book made the process of mindfulness far more accessible than previous materials I've looked at. It is comprehensive in covering everything from cravings to loving-kindness. After the book, I would highly recommend bookmarking the website associated with this book. The meditations are online and easily accessed!

I have read several books on mindfulness by different authors. I really didn't care for this one. The way he tries to start people off with the mindfulness practice is rather unnerving. What beginner will sit for 20 - 30 minutes for their first attempt? Three minutes for the very first time is daunting!
The author suffers from verbosity and it seems like he's running around in circles. At the end of chapters he has a list of practices, formal and informal, for the reader and these appear at the end of every chapter with occasional changes; reminded me of grade school.
The whole book is, in my opinion, a compilation and regurgitation of others that have gone before.
Bottom line: If I had seen this book in a book store I would have left it there.
