5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational book!
The book is fun yet informative. Purely inspirational. If you're thinking of making the leap to vegan or just exploring what a plant-based diet is, this is the book for you. Beautiful photos and wonderful references with a great online community.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very well intentioned book that misses the boat!
I am giving this book a three star rating because the book is well intended and has some nice pictures but in terms of the quality of recipes, the testing of the recipes and even the recipe index it falls way short of a good cook book.

I think the authour is a lovely person and this comes through in the book, however, I doubt she uses these recipes or has even...

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly....This REALLY works!, Oct 18 2010

As a 48 year old business manager guy, I was totally skeptical about this book and diet. Sadly, I already was developing health/weight issues and had to take action. I'd tried low-fat, Mediterranean, Atkins, South Beach, etc. etc. diets and none of them produced significant changes in my blood work and overall health.

Then I did something remarkable...I actually bought and read this book. I have to say it changed my life! I'm in excellent health now. I can't thank Alicia and Dr. Neal Barnard enough!

After some Googling I also found out about Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr and a 20-year study in the "American Journal of Cardiology" that backs up virtually everything in Alicia's book.

Today I'm super healthy and feel 20 years younger thanks to "The Kind Diet". The strange part was that the "decision" to try this diet was the hardest part -"living the diet" is really easy and the food is delicious!

Thank you Alicia for saving my life and my health!

5.0 out of 5 stars a feel good book, Nov 17 2009

This is much more than a cookbook. I feel like I am reading a letter from a good friend and her advice is heart warming without being preachy, which is great. I am not a vegan, but I definately will be trying to eat less meat and try more healthy alternatives from her book. Thanks Alicia.

5.0 out of 5 stars Will make anyone want to go vegan!, Jan 29 2010

I have read this book and now tried a number of recipes. It is well written and explains things in a very simplistic way, but seems to have some research to back it up.

The recipes in this book are really, really good. Many of them will call for expensive ingredients, especially with sweeteners since Alicia does not use processed sugars. That being said, I highly reccomend!

There is a website with a forum linked to this book that is also really useful. I have yet to try something that has not been awesome.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Read., May 13 2013
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This was a fun and fast read, but it is not the best resource on veganism out there. In terms of summaries of the health, ethical and environmental reasons to go vegan nothing can beat The World Peace Diet, and in terms of a recipe book, it is somewhat limited.

I enjoyed the valley-girl-ish language at times and the boldness of the position taken throughout.

The recipes are okay, but as other reviewers have pointed out, they include too many obscure ingredients for the average person. The ones I have tried are amazing though!

All in all, I really enjoyed reading it and would recommend it to others, but for those considering veganism it is unlikely to convince you. Try The World Peace Diet instead and look online for recipes that suit your tastes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very well intentioned book that misses the boat!, Jan 5 2013
I am giving this book a three star rating because the book is well intended and has some nice pictures but in terms of the quality of recipes, the testing of the recipes and even the recipe index it falls way short of a good cook book.

I think the authour is a lovely person and this comes through in the book, however, I doubt she uses these recipes or has even tested them as there are several that are just not worth eating/making and don't work. Another celeb on the book writing bandwagon. If you are a fan of this actress and wanting an intro to veganism then this may be something you would like.

A good cook book with yummy recipes it is not no matter what the author says. :(

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!!!! Cant say enough great things about this book!, Nov 6 2012
By far the best book I read when I decided to transition away from meat. It is informative but doesnt talk at you like a text book. It answers all of the questions people worry about when choosing this lifestyle. I read many books when I chose to be vegetarian and this book was by far my favorite. I still keep it for referenece. It doesnt just cater to vegans or vegetarians but talks about the process of transitioning. I still keep this around for a reference. love love love it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Seriously disappointing, Oct 10 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I love great cookbooks, especially ones focused on clean eating. This book is just not worth the buy. It is so heavy on the soy and full of a lot of ingredients I don't want to cook with.
