4.0 out of 5 stars Explosively good
Unlike many authors of roughly his generation, John Sanford isn't experimenting with new--and usually unsuccessful--formats, characters, or styles. Shock Wave is another Virgil Flowers success that I couldn't put down. Waited weeks for the book and finished it in a day. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Good plot, credible characters, nice touches of humor, and a satisfying ending...

2.0 out of 5 stars The Excellent Sandford Is Losing His Edge
Not surprisingly, after a great career as a Pulitzer prize winning journalist and a crime-drama author of over 30 best selling novels, Sandford is definitely slowing down and his work is suffering.

Nothing last forever they say, and sadly that is true of authors as well. I found multiple questionable plot twists and statements in this book. Flowers is becoming...

2.0 out of 5 stars The Excellent Sandford Is Losing His Edge, Jan 22 2013
This review is from: Shock Wave (Mass Market Paperback)
Not surprisingly, after a great career as a Pulitzer prize winning journalist and a crime-drama author of over 30 best selling novels, Sandford is definitely slowing down and his work is suffering.

Nothing last forever they say, and sadly that is true of authors as well. I found multiple questionable plot twists and statements in this book. Flowers is becoming a caricature from novel to novel, there is little depth to him, he has a smart mouth and independent views, that's about it.

The most enjoyable part of this story is the dialogue. Sandford always shone with his witty repartee and 'guys will be guys' take with a Minnesota flavor. I'm glad I did not dish out the cost of the hardcover.

The lenght of the book has been modified to look much more than it is, with large margins, double paragraph spaces, and an excerpt from the next installment at the end. These are annoying, but are a publishing decision.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read, Dec 8 2012

I loved this book, John Sandford knows how to catch the readers interest right away, the plot is well thought out and there is enough action to keep your interest. I read it far too fast and was left without a good book to read. I spent my money well. Robin
