yeah, i'm just some 19 year old kid who got this book from his momma, but let me tell you the seth books changed my life and my mind and my world view. Man, this was craziness. Much of the world view persented in the seth books i had found on my own during my walks in nature. I allways thought it was probably true, but they were thoes crazy personal beliefs you never really share. Well, anyway, about 2 years ago, my mother and i began talking more after i got caught smoking pot. when i told her these views, she gave me these books she had secretly read for years behind the catholic front she had raised us with. I am now a very different person then the one who was given those books. I stopped the [chemicals], found meditation, channeling, and life. I went from being a 3.0 high school student to a 3.8 college student. I started exercising. I went from being very solitary, to being increadably social. I can't promise this kind of change, mine has been dramatic, and seth is only partially responsible; there have been many other books which have now shaped my world view. But seth was the spark for my transformation. I gaurantee if you can truley be open to these ideas, and it is "your truth" you will find your life revolutionized just as i (and my mother many years before) have expieranced. good luck

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST BOOK ON REALITY I HAVE EVER READ, Jan 26 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Nature of Personal Reality: Specific, Practical Techniques for Solving Everyday Problems and Enriching the Life You Know (Paperback)
I strongly recommend this book. It is an astonishing tour de force asserting that we each and together create our own reality...and an exploration of the implications of that "fact". Whether every assertion in the book is true or not, and I didn't find a single assertion that I found to be patently false, it is an extraordinarily comprehensive world-view that is internally consistent and at times breath-taking in its insight and the concision of dramatic and penetrating understanding. I was continually intrigued by the fact that the books argument was consistent with all that I have learnt about perception, NLP and hypnosis in many years of study.

I don't believe that Jane Roberts unaided could have written this book, and I don't believe that any ordinary person could dictate such dense and well-informed text...and yet I accept that the published text was dictated as stated.

This was my first 'Seth' book, and possibly my last. I bought it on the recommendation of several reviewers who I admire and whose views I respect. The style and tone of the book, with its frequent and vacuous anotations by Jane Robert's partner and co-author Robert F Butts, I found irritating in the extreme. Why not simply present the text, free of such superficial and inane additions? There was a lot of repetition, and what material of value that is contained in this book - and I don't dispute there is some - is thereby rather snowed under by unnecessary text. 'Seth' - or is it Jane? - likes to smoke tobacco and drink beer whilst channelling this information - how very Seventies! Overall, I found this book to be rather a bore as well; my attention flagged badly towards the end. A distinct case of "yeah, whatever" I'm afraid. Yes, of course there is the odd gem to be found in its pages, but one has to mine seams of utter dreariness to stumble across them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intense but WELL WORTH IT!, Dec 1 2002

While many readers may find this book somewhat intense, I can promise that few will not be changed for the better after having read it.

Three months after reading this book, I was compelled to reread it. Then the flood gates really opened because I started to fully comprehend how many limiting beliefs I had that were keeping me from being happy in so many areas of my life. We are spoonfed beliefs from the minute we come out of the womb until we are wise enough to choose what we will or will not accept as fact. People say something and if you don't seriously think about it, and choose to reject it, chances are it will end up rolling through your thoughts some day along with all the other things you've hear over the years. And these things, these beliefs, they guide us in all our desicions. They are behind some of our most distressing 'failures' -- whatever they may be.

We've all heard them, but we never stop and think of what happens when they register... The world is not safe. Money doesn't grow on trees. The economy is bad. These are hard times. People can't be trusted. Everyone is out for themselves. Money is the root of all evil.

Once you realize that everyone of those statement along with every other statement you've got circling your brain is a LIMITING belief, which you will by the end of this book, you will have the power to change what you believe and ultimately alter your future in amazing ways. This book is life changing. The impact of it really didn't even register with me until three months after I read it. Now, I laugh at how many limiting and NEGATIVE beliefs I hear during the course of a day as I decline to accept each and every one of them. I actually counted over 200 in one day. And I stopped because it was getting hard to keep track of them. Even scarier, the people closest to you spew them faster than you could ever count. A twenty minute conversation alone will put you in the triple digits! READ THIS BOOK! If nothing else, you will at least be able to choose what you will accept as fact.

5.0 out of 5 stars It should be required reading for all hypnotherapists, Feb 11 2008

I've been planning to read this book for years before I actually got to it and I'm very glad I read it. One of the reasons I was postponing reading this book is that I generally don't rush to buy "channelled" books - there are very few of those that I really like and this one is one of them.

It's a good book from from the perspective of psychology, metaphysics, and hypnosis - and even if you are well-versed in these areas and you know them inside out, you can still benefit from reading this book.

The book deals in great depth with beliefs. As a hypnotherapist and metaphysician, I am extremely well-aware of the role they play in creating one's experience of reality and it is amazing that there are no hypnosis books that have dealth so thoroughly and insightfully with beliefs (nope, not even Dilts' book on Beliefs).

Now that I've read this book - I think it should be a required reading for all hypnotherapists.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the first and still one of the best, if not the best, Jan 13 2003
This review is from: The Nature of Personal Reality: Specific, Practical Techniques for Solving Everyday Problems and Enriching the Life You Know (Paperback)
This book by Jane Roberts, I believe is one of the first books that came out on the "New Age" ideas. It's hard to believe that ideas like this came out in 1970's and it still holds the same powerful message today as it did back then. I don't think I can further add more comments than many of the other positive responses that are already posted But I will try anyways. I like the self empowering philosophy of this book. But I think sometimes the book can get a little verbose but then he is channeling through a writer, so maybe that is why. I give this book a definate 5 stars and recommend it heartily.

Finally! What a breath of fresh air. I am almost finished with Seth's book. It's like an operations manual for correct living. We are given solid answers to never-before-answered questions. What life? What you? Why do so many things go wrong even when I am thinking positively? Why does life go "well" for some and not for others? Why are there so many earth changes and upheavals going on at the present time? The answer is in the way you think about life. Your present beliefs/thoughts determine the outcome of your present life which in turn affects your past and future. Collectively, enough of us thinking this same way will make the world a very special place. Finally, we can do something truly constructive with our lives. I am so thankful for Seth speaking through Jane Roberts in their very careful efforts to show us how to become all that we can be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable, Oct 26 2002
By
"gardenverge" (Brooklyn, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Nature of Personal Reality: Specific, Practical Techniques for Solving Everyday Problems and Enriching the Life You Know (Paperback)
I first came across the Seth material almost ten years ago. I was only 18 then, and Seth's insights resonated with me so deeply that I found them overwhelming. Recently I found myself seeking the books out again--they had just never really left my consciousness. And now I find myself reading them very, very slowly--for this material is incredibly dense--absorbing perhaps one session per day, if that. Seth's advice is so relevant, so intelligent, so unbelievably real--it doesn't just "ring true," it IS true.

I've been practicing Zen Buddhism for the past 5 years, and everything in this book resonates with the direct experience I've had of all-that-is in deep meditation. I think anyone with a spiritual background could supplement their understanding of "God" or what have you by reading this book.

I desperately want to give this book to everyone I know--but I understand that the whole "channeling thing" makes people raise their eyebrows. It's too bad about that, and too bad that this book is shelved in the "New Age" section, since "New Age" has become some kind of joke. Maybe that's part of the reason that NPR hasn't been siezed on by the scientific community, philosophers, and the medical establishment--all of which could benefit immensely from reading the material. It's revolutionary on all those fronts, and more.

This book, paragraph by paragraph, concept by incredible concept, just makes such exquisite sense. And by "sense" I mean intellectual sense, spiritual sense, and intuitive sense. You read it, and you feel the truth of it in your body, in your--dare I say?--soul.

Why isn't "The Nature of Personal Reality" required reading for everyone on the planet? I have no doubt we could create a different world with the information in it. In fact, we need it now more than ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Nature of Personal Reality, Feb 11 2002
This review is from: The Nature of Personal Reality: Specific, Practical Techniques for Solving Everyday Problems and Enriching the Life You Know (Paperback)
This is without a doubt the best book I've ever read. In fact I've read it so many times that I've lost count. Each reading seems to provide more information. This is a metaphysical book in which "Seth" a psychological personality speaks through Jane Roberts. At first reading, many of the concepts were really radical to my frame of reference. However, the more I read, the more the material began to make sense. In fact, I found the book to be simply excellent, providing a wealth of practical information that can be used to improve your everyday life. Seth explains that we create our own reality through our ideas, thoughts and beliefs. Therefore, in order to live the life that we want, we must change some of our core beliefs including affirming the life that is ours. The book presents an approach that includes practical useful exercises. I have found the information along with the exercises to be most beneficial and my life continues to be enhanced as a result. For a more fulfilling life, I highly recommend all of the Jane Roberts books, esepecially The Nature of Personal Reality.

5.0 out of 5 stars How totally great, Dec 10 2001
By
D. Steiny (New York City) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Nature of Personal Reality: Specific, Practical Techniques for Solving Everyday Problems and Enriching the Life You Know (Paperback)
I just finished reading all 29 reviews (as of the date of this review) on the Nature of Personal Reality. Just like nearly everyone else this book has had a major POSITIVE impact on my life. Frankly, I consider it to be my favorite book.

Knowing that they're so many other people that NOPR has had a huge impact on me is so inspiring - yea! I'm not alone.

So, what can I say that hasn't already been said? I guess this from personal experience - life can sometimes be confusing, it can seem out of control and that things are just happening to you. It may feel like you're an artist who is trying to paint a specific picture, but the paints just do what they wish regardless of your brush strokes. And this feeling of having no control is frustrating. It feels like everything is difficult and may lead to nothing in the end anyway - because you're not in control of your creation.

Then here comes Seth. (And let me make this clear, Seth says again and again to trust yourself first, to question everything anyone - especially him - says). And Seth shows how things work. i.e. how the universe was designed and why. And in a nutshell, he tells us it was designed so each of us can create what we choose; that the outside world is created from within. And to make changes in your life you must begin from within by focusing on what you want and creating positive beliefs about life (like I CAN create what I want). The outside world is simply a reflection of these inside visualizations and beliefs about the nature of reality. In other words, your beliefs and visualizations are what control the brush stroke and allow you to create the painting you desire. (Of course you do have to take action, Seth calls that being a practicing idealist)

Seth explains that people look at what is happening outside and if things are not going well they may decide, "Life is difficult." What they don't realize is that is a belief and a limiting one that will create that experience for them unless they change it. They may want to have the world change first before they change that belief, but Seth teaches us that it works the other way around.

Change the belief and the world will change.
