5.0 out of 5 stars Best Health Book EVER!! EVER EVER!!, Jun 2 2010

This review is from: 80/10/10 Diet: Balancing Your Health, Your Weight, and Your Life One Luscious Bite at a Time (Paperback)
I am incredibly passionate about this book, it has transformed my life. I heard rumblings about raw food in 2004 and started to incorporate it into my life, with health benefits. I had no teachers or guides, so I followed my body's signals and ate a lot of fruit, some greens and a few nuts with the odd potato thrown in. I felt good but was not getting enough calories. Then I came across the "raw movement" and was introduced to gourmet raw food, and my body felt even WORSE on this gourmet raw than it did on cooked! I was struggling and I was told it was detox! Well, how long should detox last really?? Then I read this book by Dr. Douglas Graham and it reminded me of my original cues from my body about eating lots of fruit, greens and some nuts, with no oils or very little. He also made the important case to eat MORE fruit. Once I switched to this diet the benefits have been indescribable in words really. Here are a few:

- amazing energy
- vibrancy
- youth
- hormonal balance
- NO PMS
- clear, steady, emotions. Emotional balance, even before my menstrual cycle
- clear eyes and skin
- being told I just have this "glow"
- flexibility
- AMAZING muscle tone. You grow muscle so easily on this diet, if you're a woman, you might want to use lighter weights so they don't grow too fast!! If you do only body weight exercises, your muscles won't grow big, you will just be lean.
- sexiness!!!
- spiritual awakening and clarity
- greater awareness of yourself and the surrounding world
- just feeling good!
- greater intelligence and intellectual ability
- no more muscle and joint pain!!
- no more morning stink!!
- your poop won't smell at all!
- no more spitting up mucus when you wake up, or waking up with a stuffy nose
- no more body odour, I swear!
- people will remark on the beautiful smell you emanate, even when you don't shower haha
- and more, I'll add to it as I remember!!

Why choose to fail when you have the choice to choose success? Why choose mediocrity when you can choose LIFE?

This is definitely a "must" book for people trying to eat/live healthy. I'm not really following the diet but who knows - maybe one day I will. This book is loaded with great information about our body, how our digestion works and mostly with lots of great recipes ideas. I've tried some smoothies, salads, dressings and every single one was AMAZING! I love this book. It has a very special spot in my kitchen and I keep it handy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, Jun 25 2011
This review is from: 80/10/10 Diet: Balancing Your Health, Your Weight, and Your Life One Luscious Bite at a Time (Paperback)
Douglas Graham describes a simple diet to revitalise our health and wellbeing. I have so much more energy and stamina than before. I was not thriving as a vegan until I started to follow the 80/10/10 diet principles. This involves more fruit (for breakfast I have 5-6 subacid/acid fruits and for lunch 10-12 bananas); and less grains, nuts, seeds and vegetable oils (including so-called "healthy" olive oil and houmous, one of my old favourites!). Thank you Doug.

I have tried to rid of my Candida problem for the past year and have been unsuccessful. This diet is the first one that has had an immediate result. It can be tricky to stick to in everyday life, but I HIGHLY recommend reading this book... I think the facts will outweigh the 'fear' of trying such an extreme raw vegan diet... (and by extreme, I mean simple ;) )

5.0 out of 5 stars CHANGE YOUR HEALTH, CHANGE YOUR LIFE, July 9 2012
This review is from: 80/10/10 Diet: Balancing Your Health, Your Weight, and Your Life One Luscious Bite at a Time (Paperback)
I was a vegetarian and it did not go well, I was a vegan and it did not go well, I was a raw foodest but eventually that too did not go well either. NOW I KNOW WHY!!!

THIS BOOK CHANGED ALL THAT. Now, health success!

Answers found in this book:

How does illness and disease occur?

How can I get better?

How many calories, protein, fat, carbs do I need per day for health?

How much sun do I need?

What should I eat?

How much sleep do I need?

First 30 days were a big detox, but after the 31 day I just kept getting healthier and healthier.

Bonus: Now I am now the LEAD instructor and coach of the Become a Health Recovery Coach program for my company!

I also recommend Your Natural Diet: Alive Raw Foods by T. C. Fry (Author), David Klein (Author). The 80/10/10 is a more important read I find. Also recommended is Fit For Life as it is very interesting (but once again not as important as the 80/10/10).

5.0 out of 5 stars Graham gives the whole picture on nutrition and what I've been eating, Jun 1 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 80/10/10 Diet: Balancing Your Health, Your Weight, and Your Life One Luscious Bite at a Time (Paperback)
The lesson about how bad refined sugar and extra fat in one's diet are needs to be revisited 1001 times for it to sink in. A breakthrough for me was the matter of protein and the myth that one has to get it from animal sources (Mercola on his raw egg and raw - unpasteurised - milk mandate, inter alia). I learnt it from Dr John MacDougall,The Mcdougall Program for Maximum Weight Loss but somehow didn't quite absorb the full caloric picture of nuts and seeds. This book is well reasoned, well written and, well, convincing, on many levels, in part because Graham isn't peddling anything. Along with this one by Joel Fuhrman: Eat to Live: The Amazing Nutrient-Rich Program for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss, Revised Edition it is a clarion call amidst the confusing and conflicting noise of diet guru books and the alarmist peddlers of food supplements. Whether you are a hamburger-loving soda-swilling tubby or a supplement-popping vegan these books will give you ample food for thought - full of nutrients for human understanding about human diet.
