Drupal is a great open source content management system, but can be challenging and overwhelming to get started with. Id been playing with Drupal for 8 months before getting my hands on this book. David does a great job explaining step by step how to install and get up and running with Drupal on your own Windows based PC, and goes over majority of the core (comes bundled with) functionality. After reading this book cover to cover, I realized how much I didnt know and how easy David made it seem. The built in Taxonomy (categorization) functionality was a big hurdle for me, but David made it very simple with well drawn diagrams and carefully worded descriptions.

What the book did not cover was the framework side of Drupal. What many people need to understand is that Drupal is both a content management systems and a PHP developers framework. Drupal is also very difficult to create themes for, but apparently that falls in the realm of framework development. I thought the section on theme development was rather thin and did not live up to the expectations that came from the previous chapters of the book.

If you want to get started with using Drupal, or you have a client that wants to know more about the Drupal installation that was given to them for their website, this is a great book. But if you are already well versed in Drupal front end and want to know more about development, wait for the book by John VanDyk and Matt Westgate that is geared towards Drupal Developers. I know Im anxiously awaiting that.
