5.0 out of 5 stars A Shake-up
This is a very good book full of very useful, well researched information. A big volume dealing with extensive study of the way nutrition influences our health and longevity. It should be read by anyone who desires to be healthy, especially by all the followers of the many fad diets (Atkins, SouthBeach, low fat, low carb, you name it...)

China Study also...

1.0 out of 5 stars We don't need to hear the truth
This book is too close to the truth, and will alienate the drug companies and the food marketing industry. How will shareholders maximize their profits if consumers know that the food they eat is killing them. Not fair to corporations!!!

I use the data from this book as input for my company PEERPERFORMANCE.CA. In fact, it was a major inspiration for starting...

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for anyone at all interested in living healthily and preventing disease, April 6 2012

This review is from: The China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted and the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss and Long-term Health (Paperback)
This book details the peer-reviewed scholarly scientific research about the impact of diet and nutrition on disease rates. The scientific literature consistently reports that following a whole-foods plant-based diet prevents the diseases associated with affluent societies (heart disease, cancer, diabetes, etc). The most interesting topic was learning the facts behind the huge meat, dairy, and egg industries who have huge money at their disposal to mislead the public about diet implications on health.

You owe it to your health to read this book and discover the true scientific facts surrounding diet and health, I think it would be the single most important step to living a long and disease-free life.

Reading this book changed my life.

I am a very critical reader and am not easily convinced by the often unsubstantiated claims made by so many other authors of diet and nutrition books, which are frequently lacking in appropriate references from research that has been peer-reviewed and published in well-respected scientific journals. I have found that The China Study is the most well-referenced and thus credible book on nutrition I have come across. It presents not only the work of one research group (based at some of the most prestigious universities in the United States) but also work by multiple leading researchers studying several superficially unrelated diseases, and it brings it all together into one central tenet. It has convinced me, my parents, and my boyfriend (all previously moderate meat and dairy eaters) to adopt the whole foods, plant-based way of eating that T. Colin Campbell advocates.

I highly recommend it to everyone that I am close to, especially people that I know that are suffering from various "diseases of affluence", but am careful not to push it on them. Ultimately, it is a book I hope they and you will read, and soon, but whether or not it results in a lifestyle change is solely their/your decision. Having read this book twice, I can't imagine that reading The China Study won't fail to make an impact on the way anyone thinks about their health, regardless of whether or not they agree with the general thesis of the book, and it will surely provide the background that they should be aware of on the related government and industry agencies that define nutrition for us, and market nutrition to us.

I purchased this book after having seen it briefly mentioned in a PBS documentary. I have changed my dietary habits because of it and I have also purchased 3 more copies and given them to friends and family for them to decide on their own. I really can't describe the contents here in this review as there is so much information that leads to one conclusion. All I can say is buy it, read it, and examine all the evidence and scientific studies for yourself.

The impact of the books findings is enormous! This is the most comprehensive study of nutrition ever conducted. You will not be able to put this book down. It is a gift to humanity. I only hope its wisdom shall be heeded by the many, not the few, so that we can begin to heal ourselves and restore the intended balance between Nature, the animals and human beings. A perfect addition to this great volume is "Can We Live 150"

Indeed a comprehensive critical overview of our unwitting acceptance of the way things have become ,nutritionally , with the help of modern day marketing methods , aided and fostered by the industrial lobbyists ,so clearly explicated by Dr. Campbell's not too pleasant experience as a
dedicated researcher........his interpretations of the data , for myself
a little too far reaching ,however ,not to be ignored; after reading this
work again and again, moving on to other vegan journals ,checking out
various diets ,have moved to an 80/20 organization of our (wife and I)
daily eating habits ,80% vegetarian wise and the 20% allowing some lean,
mean meat protein and in time will see just how far we will go....so
far (6 months the results have been fabulous;feel better;performs better;
being near 68 , the comments coming at me lately .... like what are you
doing getting younger?
