If you enjoyed Georges-Claude Guilbert's book Madonna as Postmodern Myth and you can read French, you'll enjoy this book too. The author deconstructs McCullers's novels in exactly the same way he deconstructs Madonna's songs and videos. He shows the way McCullers illustrated feminist constructionist theories 50 years before they were academically formulated, just as he shows in his Madonna book that the star's entire body of work (bad pun intended) is a reflection upon gender construction.
