5.0 out of 5 stars A Man Called Peter
An outstanding movie with uplifting characteristics. This is the story of a truly remarkable man and those who doubt the sencerity of this man ( and the movie ) do not know people who were exposed to Peter Marshall. This is a true classic with elevating overtones that should raise anyone's spirits.

3.0 out of 5 stars Preaching to the Unconverted?
In this artifcat from a simpler and more dignifed time, Dr. Peter Marshall as portrayed by Richard Todd, is "a bit of a stiff," a WWII Muscular Christian [Jesus was a bronzed man with big carpenter's knuckles, Marshall asserts] whose career from humble Scots immigrant to Chaplain of the Senate is a somewhat bronze-shoed pageant. 5.0 out of 5 stars A Man of Character Committment and Conviction, Dec 1 2001

In our days of pluralism and completely relative morality embracing spirituality in any form, this movie sets a strong tone of inspiring faith and conficenc in God through Jesus Christ. Peter Marshall was an unusual minister of the gospel who made mistakes but loved his family and the Lord with no reservations. The movie is full of the traditional church persons who are more interested in maintaining their traditons than in establishing the traditions of the gospel. Peter's response to them is both loving and confrontive. I recommend this movie very much.

He could have been Ozzie and Harriet's pastor or stayed in the British Isles and been "All Creatures Great and Small"'s pastor. He falls in love with his future wife when she harrangues a youth rally to the effect that we have come a long way from The Virgin Mary to smoking and cussing as equals of the men; no one is going to write any poems about such as us. Stirring visuals, economical sermonettes, excellent production values. A guilty pleasure for those who take religion seriously.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Awesome Display of How God Works in Our Lives, Mar 5 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Man Called Peter, a (VHS Tape)
When I first popped this movie into the vcr, I expected a story of the apostle Peter. I had never heard of Peter Marshall. After being brought to tears by this movie, I had to have a copy for myself. This movie is not just the story of Peter Marshall, it is the story of how God works in all our lives if we let Him. You do not need to be a believer to watch this film, but I challenge you to not believe after watching it. This movie was produced at a time when Hollywood still put out good movies. If you want a film to show the family, that the kids can watch. I reccomend A Man Called Peter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring, Jun 29 2000

I saw the movie when it first came out, and fell in love with it. It was heartwarming, inspiration and just made me cry. He was a man of God with a true inspiration for his calling. A few years ago I began writing Catherine, his wife. We never met but I feel we became friends. You cannot see this movie without coming away awe-inspired. Even though it is not a new release, it is a must see movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Movie, Mar 26 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Man Called Peter, a (VHS Tape)
This is the true story of the Reverand Peter Marshall. It begins in Scotland where he is called by God for a special mission. It goes to Georgia, where Peter meets & marries Agnes Scott College student Catherine Wood (This part of the movie was filmed on the ASC campus). Finally, the movie takes us to Washington DC, where Peter is the minister at the Church of the Presidents and becomes Chaplain of the US Senate. The movie showcases some of him most memorable sermons - like his sermon on marriage. This is a great film for everyone in the family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful movie about a wonderful man, Feb 24 2000
This review is from: Man Called Peter, a (VHS Tape)
I picked this movie up during a slow time at the Local library. I was bored, I'd watched everything else, yada, yada, yada. I wasn't expecting too much when I started watching but I was pleasantly surprised to find this *sleeper* movie (I'd never heard of it before) was so endearing and carried such a powerful message.

Peter Marshall talked to God and about God as though He were Peter's best friend. The movie really brought this out. Very very inspiring.

After viewing the movie, I bought the book and there is a description there of Peter's passing (after he was rushed to the hospital) that is just beautiful.

Okay, a snippet. After he passed, Catherine (wife) sat beside Peter's body for a time, in the hospital room. She became aware of a presence in the room with her and it was made clear to her that Peter and someone else were there to help her through this difficult time. She said she almost didn't want to leave the room because she knew she was in the presence of divine love.

The movie is great but the book is even better.

Five stars for sure, and God bless Catherine for sharing her story with all the world through her prolific writings.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best movies ever made!!!!, May 29 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Man Called Peter, a (VHS Tape)
I am not usually the type to have a favorite movie but if I did have one this would be it (maybe one other one too but otherwise that is all). When I rented this from the video store and watched it I just knew I had to get it somehow. Then I finally tracked it down. It is wonderful!

I love the part at the start of the movie, seeing Peter's determination to make something out of his life. But I espcially love the story of how Peter and Catherine get together. I really think that he was a great man and I love how he really respects her for her thoughts and not her body. I wish everyone was like that.

I also loved his ideas- how he seemed to see Jesus as the rugged individual that He was, how he tried to reach out to everyone in the community at his or her level and how he had the guts to stand up for what he believed in and the perserverance to keep going. He is an inspiring character, worth emmulating in a world where heros are hard to find.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent adaptation of biography., Feb 25 1999

This review is from: Man Called Peter, a (VHS Tape)
I dont know how old I was the first time I saw this film, but I was deeply moved by it.(FYI-for information on the filming, find a copy of Catherine Marshall's "To live again". Next to "The Hasty Heart",probably Richard Todd's best performance. As I understand it, the West Point sermon sequences were filmed on location....were supposed to just film Todd at beginning and end and do the rest in a studio, but the Cadets were so mesmerized that it was all done at West Point. Not as flamboyant as "Elmer Gantry" or "The Apostle", it is still a truly moving story of one man's faith and the effect it had on all he came in contact with during his relatively short lifetime. FOUR AND A HALF STARS.
