I love this mini series. I used to have a copy of it and somehow misplaced it and i've been desperately trying to find another copy anywhere, at any price! This is my favorite movie of all time, really. I guess I'm not a big movie goer or fan but when I saw this show I fell in love with it. I love the story, the acting, the history, the early American locations, homes, styles, and culture and this movie gives you so much that is noble and uplifting. It has inspired me over and over. If you find a copy either for loan or for sale, please contact me. I only own a handful of movies but if I could only own one movie, this would be it. See it if you can. Sell me a copy if you can find it or know of someone who might sell me a copy. And the love story in the show is a great one too.

I will leave it to others to write a synopsis of the characters and story of this series based on the books by James Thomas Flexner. I have seven children ranging from two years of age up to fifteen. Every member of my family, all nine of us, are GLUED to it every time we watch it. It is excellent for family viewing.
This title and it's sequel, George Washington: Forging of a Nation, belong in every home and every library in the country! When will we see them on DVD?!!!

I don't know who Benjamin Burgraff is, but he's wrong: Jane Seymour didn't play GW's secret love (ie. Sally Fairfax), it was Jaclyn Smith.

But it's still a good miniseries.

This is by far the most complete and best attempt at chronicling in (dramatic film fashion) the life of George Washington done to date. Washington's life, actions and accomplishments permanently impacted and greatly influenced this country and the entire world. To portray a real life man such as that is a challenge. Barry Bostwick does an admirable job as Washington and Patty Duke puts in a very good performance as Martha. The supporting cast in general is solid. While there is some artistic liberty taken with certain facts the story is fairly accurate. The movie is long but it does cover allot of his early life and US history. I highly recommend this movie and the sequel "The Forging of a Nation".

This series was great for a number of reasons. Everything from the accurate presentations of the Revolutionary battles Washington fought in, to a great cast of actors who make the Founding Fathers come alive for the audience, and Barry Bostwick's portayl of the man who was George Washington. A man of prinicpals who's skills at being a general kept his armoy together during nearly eight years of war. A series which is both good drama and good history.

I was in this movie, playing a Revolutionary soldier for many long days of shooting in hot, summer, August weather in authentic, reproduction wool uniforms with many layers. But the fun of running around with special effect "bombs" going off around you and being rained with dirt was fun, filmed at Virginia's Gunston Hall, colonial home of George Mason. Barry Bostwick was great. It was a lot of fun and educational, too.

Barry Bostwick did an excellent job of portraying George Washington in this miniseries. He helped make GW even more of a hero to me than he was before. I have shown the movie to my classes (I teach American History) for several years during our discussions on Washington, and it has proven to be both entertaining and educational. I highly recommend it to everyone.

The mini-series was one of the most accurate portrayals of George Washington's life that could possibly be crammed into a few hours of viewing. Perhaps one of the little know facts of the world is that Mr. Washington was responsible in his actions for starting the 7 years war. This and other factual representations of the colonial era are acted out very well! It is a wonderfull series and I would highly recommend watching it, along with reading the wonderful biography from which it was created.

This 3 tape set and it's 2 tape set sequel, "George Washington: The Forging of a Nation" will be among the best investments you will ever make for family entertainment and education. My entire family (kids age 0- 11) are glued to it each time we view it! Additionally, both sets would serve well in all elementary school, high school, and college libraries. Viewers of all ages will enjoy it. I highly recommend both it and the sequel!
