4.0 out of 5 stars This movie scares me
It scares the crap out of me, actually. It's not so much a comedy as the embodying fear of being trapped in a nightmarish junk house populated my mutants, psychos and Chevy Chase. It's not what you would expect from the usual Aykroyd or Chase movie, but it is surreal and unique.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting . . .
I picked it up because of the cast. I only gave it three stars because, while it does have its moments, I found it a bit wierd. John Candy was very good in both his roles. I didn't really get the point of Bobo and Lil' Debbul, but I liked the scene where they were playing cards with Demi Moore, who was pretty good. I'd give this one a B - B-. They did try.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my all time favourites....oh yeah!!!, Jan 3 2007
This review is from: Nothing but Trouble (DVD)
For all of you persons who just love to watch a movie that may be a little unrealistic, well this is the one...I remember watching this movie when I was a young girl...I did not really find it all that scary, maybe a few parts were a little twisted but every movie has to be a little different in it's own way...Don't you think? My whole family just watched it this evening and let's just say that my youngest who is 5 was not scared by any means...he actually laughed at things that he didn't even understand (but well, when watching the hot dog part) oh my...my hubby laughed his head off when he realized what the judge's nose was...if you have watched it and caught on then you will know what I mean by this...some may find it a bit offensive, but atleast it is a good old movie that does not use the "F" word in every other sentence unlike the new movies today...so if you decide to buy it or rent or whatever it may be, just watch it with an open mind and enjoy...I was so excited to get my hands on this movie after all these years...as a matter of fact, I will more than likely watch it a hundred times over and over again...enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Funniest Films Ever Made, Jan 12 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Nothing but Trouble (DVD)
Dan Aykroyd's character, the Justice of the Peace, Alvin Valkenheiser, is the funniest character on film. I am amazed at the poor reviews that a small number of people have given this movie. This is a great movie. I wish that they had made two or three sequels using the same cast and characters.

its a great movie, expect for the full screen that every one hates. But i with mister aykrod would redo it, with special edition, and widescreen. Makes it so much better. And as you you waner, go back and think this one over.
Don't get me wrong about the movie, it's funny and great comdey team.

5.0 out of 5 stars Texas Chainsaw Massacre Meets National Lampoons=NBT, Dec 11 2003

Great 80's comedy directed by Dan Akroyd. Was more or less a financial flop when it was released, but it is in fact a creative black comedy with some of the best one liners I have ever heard. Give it a chance. I haven't actually seen the Warner Bros. dvd release of this but I have a feeling its probably not so great considering it is full frame and without any extra features. They should do a special edition of this because the sets are so strong.

4.0 out of 5 stars Warner Bros. = Low Quality DVDs, Dec 9 2003
By
This review is from: Nothing but Trouble (DVD)
Once again, Warner Bros. has successfully offended me by putting another one of my favorites on DVD in a low-quality pan & scan disc. They really need to stop blowing off their movies with cruddy DVDs like this. If they have so little respect for these movies they shouldn't have greenlit the projects in the first place. Hear me, Warners? You should be ashamed. I find myself regetting that other studios did not release these movies. If New Line had released it, this film would have gotten proper digital video disc treatment. Or even Paramount for that matter.
But to get to the film at hand. I must say that my four star rating (this is for the actual movie) is a bit biased. This film barely makes three stars, but I am quite fond of it. It never did well and most people have forgotten it. But I have fond memories of it. It's a clever little movie that gives a nod to the black humour of "rural" horror films of the past such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. That backwoods American gothic vibe is very prevalent here as a group of wandering yuppies stumble upon a roughneck family controlling a small town in the sticks. But mind you, this is more or less a pretty lighthearted movie. John Candy takes a double role as the town Sheriff and The Judge's daughter. The Judge, played with complete and utter excellence by Dan Akroyd, takes the supreme chair in the crumbling mansion that doubles as the town hall. And Demi Moor and Chevy Chase are just fine as the well-meaning yuppies. The jokes are not sophisticated (laughs are derived from such things as gross food to the dirty living conditions of the old Judge) but they come often enough to keep the wheels rolling. All in all, a well-done little movie that I truly think deserves the label "under-rated". Now, if only I could say the same about Warner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent movie and an all star cast!, Aug 17 2003
This review is from: Nothing but Trouble (DVD)
This is a five star movie all the way! Even to date this is my favorite movie of all-time, and I've seen it hundreds of times! I think the characters are intense and the dark comedy added throughout makes it that much better. For those of you that loved it as well post your review and lets get this movie to the five star rating it deserves! And it was an all-star cast what could be better than John Candy, Ackroyd, and Demi Moore in a creepy old house full of booby traps, enclosing walls, the Bone Stripper and other zany ideas that keep the story in check. Ok, Now I have to go watch "Nothing But Trouble" again! Five stars all the way!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, classic fun, July 6 2003
This review is from: Nothing but Trouble (DVD)
I think it is easy to predict the reaction of people who watch this comedy for the first time - "brutally weird!" That's what I thought, but every time it is on, I just can't help but watch it again, laughing all the way through. The movie's strongest points are flamboyant characters and strong comedy acting. That last one is no surprise, considering that most of the actors involved are career comedians. Of course, that is not enough to make a good movie. There is something else that makes this flick so funny and special. What that is, I honestly don't know. You will probably not see a comedy so funny and weird ever again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought it was great!, Jun 16 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Nothing but Trouble (DVD)
Chevy Chase and Demi are on their way to Atlantic City and then they get pulled over by a small town cop and the fun begins from there. The cop tells them they have to follow him to the court house and the judge will make a decision on their punishment. They judge decides they have to stay the night and appear in court the next morning but during the night they try to escape and get caught in the fun house. Lets just say this is not a normal house.

Every since I was a kid I thought this movie was so funny. It just cracks me up! John Candy, Dan Akroyd and Chevy Chase your basic 80's comedy team together in this film. They all have parts that are just hilarious and then you add Demi Moore. Also in one part of the movie there is appearance by 2PAC. He is in the band the is playing in the courtroom to avoid getting sent to jail.

I will watch this movie whenever it is on cause I can't help but laugh. Watch this and you will know what I mean!
