5.0 out of 5 stars The Immaculate Video Collection Continued!
This is a wonderful DVD! I am so glad my favorite Madonna video of all-time, "Bad Girl", was on the DVD! But there were some videos missing on here, like "Deeper And Deeper", "I'll Remember", "You'll See", and "This Used To Be My Playground". But this is still a wonderful collection!

3.0 out of 5 stars Incomplete (Part 2)
I don't understand why I can't find in this video collection the following videos: "Erotica", "Deeper and Deeper", "This Used To Be My Playground", "I'll Remember", "I Want You", "You Must Love Me" and "You'll See". Has Madonna ever said something about it? This video collection would've been 5 stars if...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Visual Treat, Mar 3 2004
By

Madonna has been one of the most prolific video artists of the last twenty years, and this 2nd compilation (the first being The Immaculate Collection) shows why.

The best videos on here are the murder mystery of Bad Girl / the Matador love affair in Take A Bow / the poignant and thought provoking Drowned World / the gothic and dark Frozen / the fast paced, image laden visual treat that is Ray Of light / and the incredible / the very surreal Bedtime Story / the beautiful B&W simplicity that is Secret / Rain and Power of Goodbye are so incredibly stylised (never has she looked so incredible) and not forgetting the sheer fun and tom-foolery with Austin Powers in Beautiful Stranger.

The collections weakest moments include Human Nature, a better video than the song, and the poor Love Don't Live Here Anymore (a cheap 1 shot video, which was filmed on a day off in Buenos Aires).

A bonus though is Fever, a simple dance to camera video which is laden with costume changes and special effects.

There are a couple of omissions though which I personally would have liked on here. The sexy, grainy Erotica (perhaps her most inventive musical moment?), and the 70's themed Deeper and Deeper (though she has NO eyebrows in this video which may explain its omission!)

With no extras to speak of, this is still an incredible compilation of videos from a woman who is without doubt one of the leaders in her field.

This collection is missing a few vital hits. The one in paticular I miss is 'Erotica'. Other than that, this collection is amazing. Highlight Videos: Bedtime Story, Ray of Light, Frozen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simply heavenly, if incomplete, Jan 26 2004

First I'd like to address a common complaint regarding the exclusion of "This Used to Be My Playground" and "I'll Remember." I'm as disappointed as anyone, but clearly movie copyrights are to blame. This is less of an issue with "Beautiful Stranger," which may star Austin Powers but features no actual scenes from the movie.

The absence of "Deeper and Deeper" and "You'll See" are puzzling, however, and I'm deeply disssappointed about the exclusion of the latter, an inspired sequel to "Take a Bow," in particular. That said, you still have some of Madonna's best videos including "Frozen," "Power of Goodbye" and "Ray of Light." I only wish the lyrics in "Human Nature" were uncensored.

Here's to hoping a more comprensive and thoughtful collection of Madonna's post-Vogue videos will one day be released.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Video Collection (1999), Jan 14 2004
This review is from: Madonna: The Video Collection 93-99 (VHS Tape)
A great follow-up to her THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION home video. THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION home video contains her videos from early 1984 to late 1990. This incredible home video contains her videos from early 1993 to mid 1999. I have to say that this home video is a must-have video.

BAD GIRL
This has to be one of my favorite videos from Madonna. The video features Madonna as a chain-smoking business woman, who gets off work with a different guy every night. Christopher Walktins plays a strange guardian angel of some sort who goes back in time to see how Madonna's character was murdered. The video has that BODY OF EVIDENCE/DANGEROUS GAME theme.

FEVER
This is another single from the EROTICA album, but it was not released here in the U.S. However, Madonna did shoot a music video for it and it's an unbelievable music video. One scene features Madonna with a short red wig on, wearing a tight red tank top and flashing pants, where she stands in front of a blood red background. The next scene features Madonna in a short orange wig with a strange gold skirt, standing in front of that same red background. The third would be Madonna wearing a long orange wig, wearing nothing but two flowers to cover her chest and a lily to cover her privates

RAIN
When I first heard this song, I was amazed at how nice it was and I wondered if she had released it as a single. I found out that she did and I always wanted to see the video. I finally got the chance when I got this home video. The video features Madonna, in a short black wig, as an actress in a Japanese film. My favorite scene is wear she is standing between to thin walls that have water flowing down them. It's a real nice scene.

SECRET
Although I love the song, the video lacks creativity.

TAKE A BOW
First off, I have always loved this song. And who wouldn't love it? It was a major hit, becoming another #1 hit and it stayed at the #1 spot for seven weeks. The video is not that great, but she really blew me away with her looks in this one. She looked the prettiest when she was rubbing her hands all over the television.

BEDTIME STORY
This has to be her weirdest video ever. The song is called Bedtime Story, but the video is a Bedtime Story that will give children nightmares. The most weirdest scene is at the end. It features Madonna with reversed facial features. She has two mouths where her eyes are supposed to be and she has one eye where her mouth is supposed to be. The two mouths are singing the last line of the song. You want a weird video? This is it.

HUMAN NATURE
First off, great song. She is actually trying to say to the critics that she is not sorry for making the EROTICA album, she is not sorry for making the SEX book, and she's not sorry for starring the very sexual BODY OF EVIDENCE. She's telling everyone to "shut the f*ck up and let me perform the way I want to perform". In other words, "It's human nature".

LOVE DON'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE (REMIX)
Madonna actually recorded this song in 1984. It can be found on her LIKE A VIRGIN album. When that album came out, Madonna did not release it as a single. In 1995, she released SOMETHING TO REMEMBER, her greatest ballads compilation. This song appeared on there. She then decided to release it as a single. The video is not much because she was real busy shooting EVITA. So, she just did a simple video where she stayed in one place as the camera spent half of the song slowly zooming in on her and spent the last quarter of the song slowly zooming out.

FROZEN
Awesome video. The video features Madonna in the Mujave Desert in California. The physical tone of the video is very dim, like a gothic-night time look. Madonna is featured in a long, pitch-black wig and a pitch-black dress. Her hands are covered with henna tattoos. Very creep, but amazing.

RAY OF LIGHT
Although, I love the song, the video is somehow not that impressive.

DROWNED WORLD (SUBSTITUTE FOR LOVE)
Although the single was released in the states, the video, however, was not. She wanted to do a video that fit the concept of the song. She had the feeling that the critics would bother her for what the video was trying to say, despite the fact that was being shown in the video was not true. So, she decided to release the video in Europe.

THE POWER OF GOOD-BYE
I never, ever understood this one.

NOTHING REALLY MATTERS
When I first saw this video, I was like, "What the hell is this"? Then I recognized the song and the voice. This is yet another weird video, but I love it. Madonna takes up two different looks in the video. The first time you see her, she's in a black and green dress. Her hair is pitch black and pulled into a ponytail. Her face is painted pale white, with red make-up across her eyes. Then you see her in a red Japanese robe, with pitch black hair, let down, and her eye brows dyed red.

BEAUTIFUL STRANGER
Another massive hit from Madonna. It was the main theme to AUSTIN POWERS: THE SPY WHO SHAGGED ME, the second installment to the AUSTIN POWERS series. The video and song fit the movie perfectly. AUSTIN himself appears in the video.

3.0 out of 5 stars Incomplete (Part 2), Nov 16 2003
I don't understand why I can't find in this video collection the following videos: "Erotica", "Deeper and Deeper", "This Used To Be My Playground", "I'll Remember", "I Want You", "You Must Love Me" and "You'll See". Has Madonna ever said something about it? This video collection would've been 5 stars if they had included (some of) them.

Don't get me wrong, the videos here are really good, but it's like eating a piece of chocolate cake with no cherry on the top. What happened Madonna? You know it's not fair.

5.0 out of 5 stars A stunning collection, Oct 18 2003

Madonna is one of the very few music artists who really makes the most of the music video medium. Her videos are gorgeous, fascinating performance art pieces directed by some of the most talented directors in the business. Some highlights of this stunning collection include: Bad Girl (a dramatic mini-film about a promiscuous woman who meets an untimely death, directed by David Fincher), Bedtime Story (a surreal wonderland directed by Mark Romanak), Ray of Light (a groundbreaking, hyperkinetic video by Jonas Akerlund) and Beautiful Stranger (a sexy and goofy video featuring Austin Powers). This DVD is an absolute must-have for any Madonna fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great video compilation, Aug 2 2003

David Anderson (St. Cloud, MN) - See all my reviews

This is a compilation of her music videos from 1993-1999. Madonna proves on every video that she remains the queen of pop and MTV. The DVD starts at her "Erotica" days, raging in every presentation, and leads the audience through her evolution to "Ray of Light", expressing her spirituality. Though it misses some videos, it explores the important parts of her career. This is important material for all Madonna fans to add to their collection.
