The Best Cast Recording Overall,
By Joey E "Joey E" (Kennett Square, PA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Joseph And The Amazing Technic (Audio CD)
This is the best overall cast recording of the three revival cast recordings available. After hearing (and seeing in Toronto Canada) Donny Osmond as Joseph, you won't want to hear anyone else in that role. I have all the other recordings of this show, and this is by far the best recording. True, the orchestrations are a bit electronic sounding, but then again, this is Andrew Lloyd Webber and the orchestrations make the best of the available instrumentation. The songs are uncomplicated, the lyrics are playful and witty. Janet Metz as the narrator can be a little wearing on the ears after awhile, but I personally like her performance the best of the three revival casts. The American cast with Michael Damian in the lead is a joke. And the British revival cast recording is mixed differently so that all of the performers seem to be soft and lost within the orchestra. If you want just one cast recording of Joseph, this one is the one to get!

Janet Metz - two thumbs down,

I'm only 14, but I've been around the block of broadway a few times, and I have to say I threw away this CD (well, not literally) after hearing just five seconds of Janet Metz's awful high, squeaky voice. I am also a lead vocalist, and I must say that Metz's babyish, gravelly tone is unattractive and extremely difficult to listen to.My favorite narrator is Maria Freidman, who did the film version of "Joseph." Her voice is richer, deeper - definitely better overall.

Joseph is "OK",

Ok, so I took a listen to Joseph. I am a HUGE musical fan, having directed many productions myself, and I must admit that I was extremly disapointed with the soundtrack. Although Donny Osmond's vocals are stellar, the back up voclas on the rest of the track were simply "ok". Really-really-really nothing to write home about! Had I heard this CD before, would have purchased the new London version.

Donny Osmond is a perfect Joseph,

I must admit, my sister and I went to see "Joseph" when it was in Boston a few years ago, mainly because we had childhood crushes on Donny Osmond! I absolutely loved the show. Donny Osmond was just fantastic in this role and the songs seem to be made for his voice. Whoever thought of casting him was right on. This CD is one you will sing along to while in the car, and even my 2 year old loves the music.

my name is Tyson. I'm 16 and have a passion for music. Donny Osmond is by far the best Joseph I have heard out of all the cast recordings. However, I don't care much for the Canadian cast, especially Janet Metz the narrator. Her voice actually starts to annoy me. I think the best narrator is from the l.a. cast. My school is doing Joseph right now, tomorrow night is the last two performances. I am the lightboard operator so I have heard it at least 16 times from our school's cast. My friend Matt definately does an incredible job as Joseph and the best high school OR college Joseph I have heard through my years of ushering and tech for the different shows.

One of the best,

This is an almost factual reenactment of what supposedly went on in the Bible. A boy named Joseph and his brothers have a fight and the whole story is all singing, so if you haven't seen the movie, you don't miss anything. It has all different types of music including Jamaican and French, and it is suitible for children of all ages. I also recommend the DVD that has all the songs in it. In my humble opinion, I'd say this is one of the best broadway shows of all time.

I saw Joseph when it came to town in '93 and loved it ever since!!! I listen to it constantly, and it is like a bedtime story, for the whole musical is on the cd. Donny is the perfect Joseph. THis role was made for him. I lvoe the video, but this cd is better because everyone sings, instead of talk-singing (which is my biggest pet-peeve). I abosolutely LVOE this musical!!! I want to do this musical at my high school next year, because it is the best musical ever!!

I LOVE THIS CD MORE THAN ANYTHING!!! I hear the songs and I am taken back to 1997 when I got to be up on stage in Joseph performing at the Elgin Theatre. I can visualize the movements and sets and cast. I remember what it was like to be performing to an audience of over a thousand people. I remember our rehearsals and all the amazing things that happened to me over the 5 months I was in Joseph. The funny, happy and sad moments. There is nothing like it.This CD is for anyone who has seen the production live, or who wants to feel and hear what Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is. I miss the show! There are two things I didn't like about this CD: 1. It didn't include the entre-act (the kids sang it) - This is probably due to the fact CDs can only hold so many minutes - that probably would have put them over. 2. I wish the song "Any Dream Will Do" (number 2) wasn't the pop (single) version - if they wanted to include that they could have put it at the end as a bonus track or something. Finally: I read in a review that someone didn't like this CD because the kids parts sounded like there were teenagers mixed in. To that I say DUH!!! For those of you who have only seen the video - the kids aren't supposed to be a bunch of 5 year olds!!! In the live production there were 46 kids ranging in age from 8-16 (maybe 17) So don't be ingorant!!! JEEZZ!!! The two narrators who were in the show during 1997 are the best I've heard!!!
