This compilation of songs is certain to put you in a melancholy mood. Barry has a subtle way of letting the woman he's talking to know exactly what he wants, without getting straight to the point too quickly. He tantalizes the senses, soothes the spirit, and calms the inner chaos, ever so slowly and deliberately.

The essence of soul is captured in this collection of grooves by the Maestro. Not only does his smooth bass voice resonate in the hits such as "Can't Get Enough... and "My First, My Last, My Everything." But he also slows it down on "Oh What A Night for Dancing," as well as an excellent cover of Billy Joel's "Just The Way You Are." If by chance you are the casual Barry White fan, You may not want to get to close, this disc will bring out the true Barry lover in you. It's White's intention that you should be with the one you love or for the one you want to swoon.

What more need be said; of the master of the love ballad. The strings & horns blend themselves very well into his work of art. Mister Barry White has the charm to soothe the savage beast in anyone! So "Heres" to the master of Swoon!!! Mister Barry White!!!

O and again...... Barry Whites "All time greatest Hit" is a pleasant package that should arrive to your destination.

I am eternally grateful to Alley McBeal for introducing the incredible music of Barry White to me. The name has always been familiar to me, but I'm not quite old enough to have been properly exposed to the man's music. After watching my favorite character John Cage psych himself up with Barry White music each week on television, I knew I had to have a Barry White CD, and it had to feature You're the First, the Last, My Everything. This All-Time Greatest Hits album, packing twenty hits from 1973-1979 onto one disc, pretty much sells itself. I know there are lengthier collections available now, but this remains the best one-CD ensemble of Barry White staples you will find. I do believe that several of these tracks are somewhat edited from the longer versions featured on the original albums, but I don't have a problem with this. I wanted an authoritative introduction to the man's music, and that is exactly what this album delivers. The original, full-length versions of his songs are all out there waiting for me to get around to buying all of his albums.

I really don't even know where to begin in terms of discussing these 20 tracks; every song on here is incredible. In the liner notes, you can see where each song peaked on the R&B and/or pop charts as well as find out the original album each song was taken from. The songs I am particularly enamored with are I'm Gonna Love You Just a Little More, Baby; Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe; You're the First, the Last, My Everything; Let the Music Play; You See the Trouble With Me; and Your Sweetness Is My Weakness. I might point out that two of these tracks are instrumentals: Love's Theme (which is instantly recognizable) and Satin Soul. On each and every track, Barry is just laying down that soul groove in his incredibly cool, untouchable way. Obviously, that deep, silky voice is famous for its romantic powers, but, speaking as someone with no one at this time to create the appropriate mood for, this music is also well suited for helping you mellow out and relax after a long day. When you need a little confidence boost, follow the example of Alley McBeal's John Cage; Barry White is the man. You don't listen to Barry White music; you experience it.

5.0 out of 5 stars RIP Barry White, Jan 23 2004

While never a big fan of disco, I have always liked Barry White's blend of dance music combined with classic R & B, and this 20 - song cd does an excellent job of collecting the best of his unique style of music.

For a solid collection of hits, this album holds up quite well. "Love's Theme", "Never, Never Gonna Give You Up", "I'm Gonna Love You Just A Little More, Babe", "Can't Get Enough Of Your Love Babe", "You're The First, The Last, My Everything", "What Am I Gonna Do With You", and "It's Ectasy (When You Lay Down Next Me)" are all included on this cd. Also included on this cd are several songs that were not successful on the Hot 100 but were hits on the R & B charts, including "Your Sweetness Is My Weakness", "Oh What A Night For Dancing", and the excellent "You See The Trouble With Me". Another standout is his gorgeous cover of the Billy Joel standard, "Just The Way You Are". I actually prefer this version to Joel's original version.

I highly recommend. It has possibly the most complete collection of Barry White's material. (My only gripe is that they did not include the longer version of "I'm Gonna Love You Just A little More Babe" that I heard on the radio the other day). It is also great party music. I played at my grandmother's house on New Year's Eve and everyone there started dancing. The bottom line is that this is a perfect collection of hit singles from a man who redefined soul and R & B music forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Songs From One CD!, Jun 13 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: All-Time Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
The late Barry White was the one voice easily recognizable during the early 1970s. Just listening to his bedroom lyrics of love would send chills to your spine!

As far as a hits collection goes, it was done correctly. All his Top 40 hits from the 1970s are included along with R & B chart entries. Plus, the songs do work together as a team and even the irony of this collection involes two hits from Love Unlimited Orchestra! This works one of two ways: 1) It will save the buyer (perhaps the casual fan) from buying The Best Of Love Unlimited Orchestra from the same label or 2) on the downside, the fan will complain "Isn't this suppose to be about Barry White, the SOLO artist?" True, and if that's the case, then omitting "Love's Theme" and "Satin Soul" could have been replaced with "I Found Someone" and (maybe the ulimate love intro dialogue) "Love Serenade"!

There are several pictures and liner notes along with song credits and chart entries are included.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Man is Gone ...... But the Music Lives On Forevor, May 12 2004

Barry White wrote amazing songs about sex and love. He was never crass or vulgar. He didn't have to be. His voice, lyrics and music flowed like some kind of honey, oozing out of your speakers and straight into your lover's heart. Some of his songs sounded the same, but thats beside the point because they all sounded great. They called him "The Walrus of Love" and sure enough, that's what he looked like, with his big droopy 70's mustache and hefty physique. Todays music can either be very vapid {dance pop}, or violent {Rap}, so a talent like Barry's is missed all the more. There was a time when men and women wrote deeply and intensely about love and sensuality and Barry was the King of that era. Thank you for all the great music and for being the soundtrack of love to so many couples around the world.
I wonder if you knew the impact you had on so many people's lives.

I'm so glad I got this CD. All of the songs are excellent and Barry White has a way with a song. He's got a great voice and the musical arrangements are great, too. This CD is a must for anyone who likes good classic 70's soul. RIP, Barry White.
