I've owned this album since it was released in 1982 and have always treasured it.A few years ago, Island/Polygram came out with Legend 2 which was a weak attempt to do an unnecessary follow up. LEGEND is a great sampler of what Bob Marley, Bob Marley and the (original)Wailers, Bob Marley and the (post Bunny Wailer, Peter Tosh)Wailers were about. Having own quite a few of his blackmarket/ underground concerts none of the official "live" recording of the Wailers stacks up against the ones that are privately owned and circulated, but there is the sense in listening to the few live tracks on this album of what a Bob Marley & The Wailers concert meant. This is a phenomenal album and the benchmark of what reggae was and what reggae should have always been. 5 gargantuan stars.

I like reggae, don't love it, but.. Really happy with this collection. A great selection of catchy tunes, political anthems, and classics in Reggae. Inspired me to read up on Rastafarianism

Enjoyed this great selection of Bob Marley's music and felt it gave a nostalgic look back at his hits. Good value for the price.

I honestly can't say that I am a fan of reggae music. For me, the music sounds the same no matter who is singing. However I will make an exception with Bob Marley, namely his greatest hits cd "Legend". I consider myself more as a casual fan of Bob Marley's music so I felt that it was appropriate that I would be better off with "Legend". "Legend" is a good representation of Bob's stellar career. My all time favorite Bob Marley song is the politically charged "Buffalo Soldier". I have always loved that song since I first heard it on a mix tape from my brother. Another personal favorite is "No Woman No Cry". The Fugees did a nice cover of the song but nothing beats Bob Marley's version. "Redemption Song" is another great Bob Marley song. It is such a great uplifting song. I love all the songs on the cd. It is a great cd to listen to at a party, and I know I have heard it many times at lots of house parties in my college days.

This album is aptly named; Bob Marley's music has touched the world, and this compilation does even more justice to his brilliance than the original release of "Legend" -- better, crisper sound and "Exodus," in its complete form. There was never an excuse for having the shorter version of this great song on this album and it always took away from the album for me but now Legend is the perfect album. This reissue has improved and the sound is great, all the lyrics and a good essay on Bob, and the 2 new "Bonus" tracks is a great addition to this package. "Exodus" is the best reason to toss your old "Legend" aside.Everyone knows all the great songs from this great man. With sweet songs like "Is This Love, "No Woman, No Cry" (a recording of the famous live performance), and the empowering "Get Up Stand Up." There is a song for nearly any mood. It seems that EVERYONE, whether they're into hip-hop or rock or country can dig Bob Marley. Not many artists can do what he had done. That being said, this album is just about the most versatile disc conceivable. Feeling a little low - just play "Three Little Birds" or "Is This Love?" Need some music to get your party started? play the infectious "Jamming" and "Could You Be Loved" will do the trick. Looking to chill out with your significant other? "Waiting in Vain" (just about the most beautiful song ever conceived) or "Stir It Up" will set the mood straight. Most of the tracks on this album are songs that were paramount for Bob Marley and the Wailers' career in the seventies and eighties. Bob Marley's "Legend" is an excellent album, definitely a must have.

Bob Marley is a figure that attracts attention from any music lover.Leading and popularizing the entire Reggae genre, Bob Marley's music and persona are larger than life. He tackles themes of inequality and Rastafarian doctrines in his lyrics to energetic, heartfelt songs. The CD opens with "Is this Love", as the bouncing and almost funky guitar make way to Bob Marley's lovely voice. Just a fun song to listen to while chilling. The best part of the song is the verse. "No Woman No Cry" is a live cut, and a change of mood, to soft and poignant. Very simple the whole way through, it's not his best song but an important classic nonetheless. "Could You be Loved" has this amazing energy, a kicking beat. The switch between relative major and minor tonality is an example of Marley's ability to naturally elicit emotion through the music. When he gets to the part "Could You be Loved, and be loved", you are forced to feel it. "Three Little Birds" is a great song to with great harmonies from the ladies. A nice arrangement by Bob, and another great message from Bob. "Buffalo Soldier" is a cool song, one of my favorites. Great instrumentals from the band. "Get Up Stand Up" is a song that describes Bob's answer to much of the injustice in Jamaica and the world. Meaningful and funky, Marley means business. "One Love" is a lasting melody that you've surely heard on resort commercials, such as Sandals. It speaks Carribean. "Shot the Sherrif", covered by Eric Clapton, is a strange song. Original concept. It is one of the most bouncing, so I like it. Bob goes all out vocally as well. Nice vocal effects too. "Waiting in Vain" is cool. Very relaxed. Almost has an American R&B feel to it. Very chill. A nice fadeout at the end. "Redemption Song" is an emotional song with good lyrics. This is a special one. The chorus gives insight into some of Bob's longing. "Satisfy my Soul" is a bit jazzy, but follows the basic Marley songwriting formula. Again, another song from his collection that shows he's a songwriter. "Exodus" reiterates his theme for the progression and equality of his people. Not one of the best songs on the CD, yet a memorable chorus. "Jammin" is one of the best songs on the CD. Pure and beautiful, it's impossible not to feel the rhythm on here. The two bonus tracks are interesting and welcome. Bob's all about simple messages put to very relaxing music. That's what Bob's music is all about, very basic and raw emotion, which makes the music timeless and shouts out "Life".

Whether you are a reggae fan or not, you've got to love the works of Bob Marley, the man is a genius. This is an excellent compilation, every track a classic. From the party classic 'Jamming' to the universal anthem 'One Love/People Get Ready', the gorgeous, beautiful acoustic 'Redemption Song' and the tender 'No Woman No Cry', this CD is loaded with brilliant songs. It is really worth owning, one of the greatest Greatest Hits. However, as always, some essential Marley tracks are missing: 'Sun Is Shining', 'Rainbow Country', 'Lively Up Yourself', 'Kaya' and 'Trenchtown Rock'. Of these 5, only 2 are actually included on the One Love CD, the other Marley greatest hits, so competition is stiff, especially as the version of 'Redemption Song' is far superior and 'Satisfy My Soul' is left off One Love altogether. Overall, this is a great Marley compilation to buy for any music fan at all, loaded with classics, but its worth buying other albums for several other tracks.

This music was made in the 70s and 80s. This is the best reggae ever made. Nothing beats it today. Some say he is too political, and he is too bitter. If you take the time to look into what he speaks about, you will know that the world is a very corrupt place. Yes, we need to have fun, and that is why music like this is made - to celebrate the fight against oppression. The first time I heard "redepmtion song", I was like "Damn... that was exactly how I felt. I had the same thoughts in my mind." People need to open their minds, and to think this was made in the 70s and 80s. Wow.
