5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Best solo albums ever!
If you love Hip-Hop, this is as hot, high, intuitive, addictive...as it gets.
Get it ASAP, this album is timeless, it never gets old. Best Wu-Tang solo album ever, along with "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx," and "Liquid Swords."
Tical (Method Man) is simply UNTOUCHABLE, UNSTOPPABLE, AND DELIGHTFUL.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wu-Tang...Enter the 36 Chambers, Jun 30 2004

I don't know how anyone could find Method Man's "Tical" or any other solo member of the "Wu" album's disappointing. "Tical" marked the beginning of the Meth era...Keep it up KID! I must say I have been a fan of the Wu-Tang Clan for a long time; and they said it best on the Enter the Wu Tang (36 Chambers) CD. They "form" like "Voltron". Every member has something special to offer. Prime example, look at the ODB! ALL members of the "clan" have a unique style. His style (Method), separates him from the rest of the "clan"! One fact remains, each member of the "Wu" is lyrically gifted! The "Tical" CD not only made "Meth" the solo artist that he is; but it paved the way for the rest of the Wu-Tang Clan. He gave real Wu-Tang fans something to look forward to, a sequel to the 36 chambers, "solo style". I'm not saying "Meth" is the best of the clan, I have several favorites!! I'm saying "surprisingly disappointing" (aka brother ike) check your Wu-Tang history. Historically, all of the artist talk about preserving the Wu-Tang family through music! From the way it sounds "Surprisingly Disappointing" aka (brother ike) could use a refresher course on Wu-Tang "lyranomics". NO HARD FEELINGS TO ANY WU-TANG FAN, just trying to preserve the family through..the honest truth!

I can't believe some of the bad reviews I've been reading from this album. I even had a friend tell me Tical 2 was better than this. I think people were expecting more of a "M-E-T-H-O-D Man" vibe throughout the album. It's definitely not the best Wu-Tang solo, but it was the first solo joint. Now that was monumental in itself. It's still a Wu classic and his best album to date.

4.0 out of 5 stars Meth delivers some gems here!!!, April 21 2004

1994 was tremendous, as I've said time and time again. I'm here to set the record straight with Method Man's debut album, Tical. One year after coming off of the successful and classic debut Wu-Tang album, Meth was the first to step up to the plate and release the first Wu solo album, to much hype. A lot has been said about this album, that it was weak, average, disappointing, what have you. But the bottom line(which will be addressed in The Last Word) is that this album represents Meth in his prime, representing in a way that he SHOULD'VE represented on his second album. Here's the COMPLETE review, well I'll do my best:

Album Highlights: Tical, Biscuits, Bring The Pain, All I Need, What The Blood Clot, Meth vs.Chef(listen as Meth and Rae do battle, just for fun), Release Yo Delf, I Get My Thang In Action, Stimulation, and Mr.Sandman(RZA and Inspektah Deck KILL this track) and Method Man(Remix).

Production: Thumbs in the middle, leaning SLIGHTLY towards up. RZA's production gems are Bring The Pain, Meth vs. Chef, What The Blood Clot.

Lyrics and Subject Matter: Thumbs up, but slightly.

Originality: Thumbs in the middle.

The Last Word: Here's the deal. Is the album a CLASSIC? Sadly no, but the songs described in the album highlights section are classics. This album is NOT up there with the likes of Raekwon and GZA's first albums. It's a decent first album from Meth, and it's strong enough for a four star rating. Overall, I recommend this for the fans of the early Wu-Tang, when they were clearly in their primes. However, even with the platinum and award winning success of this album, with a little more planning and effort, this album could've been much better.

This is the type au album where u can just sit and listen. Nufin else just sit and listen. well all you really need to listen to this album is about an 1/8. Its trippy mad noises with fat pumpin beats along with the genius raps of mef himself make this one of the best if not the best album to blaze up a fatty (or 6) to.

2.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly dissapointing, Mar 15 2004
This review is from: Tical (Audio CD)
Wu Tang were riding high in 1994... The previous year had seen them break into the big time with their debut album, and now they were setting up a string of solo albums. First up came 'Tical' by Method Man. Of all the Wu Tang emcees, I'd probably rate Meth the weakest, and this album does nothing to disprove that. But i guess they felt he had the star quality and he got the first jump.

'Tical' isn't much. The album sounds thrown together. There is very little of the dusty & gritty street corner vibe of the first album, just a collection of lazy verses and average beats. Songs like 'All I Need To Get By' and 'Bring The Pain' are straight up pop music, and it sounds like Meth wants to be a star more than a hardcore emcee. This album even has a Puff Daddy remix, which gives you a hint of the direction Meth was going in.

Overall 'Tical' is a disappointing album, but subsequent albums by Genius, Chef Raekwon and Ol' Dirty avoided Meths pop music and served up some dark and inventive classics, which more than made up for this mess. Unless your a Wu-addict, I'd avoid this album.

As far as i'm concerned : this is the best WU solo lp + the best WU lp ever came out. TICAL is ova'blunted ! Meth's skillz and voice have never been higher .... Meth is one of the 5 best emcees ever seen.. and about RZA's produkshunz : what da F. he smoked the day he produced these amazin' crazy dirty weeded beats ?
When i heard it in '94 i was blown up ... it's still da case in 2004.. WHY ? 'cuz the 2 best hip hop albums of all the times are ... DAH SHININ' ( smif n wessun ) and TICAL ( Mr Meth ).

If you don't love them : email me ... may be i could help you to see clearer ...

Peace

4.0 out of 5 stars The Bizarre World of Tical 4.5 Stars, Jan 18 2004

After the phenomenal "Enter the Wu Tang: 36 Chambers" was released, the next goal of the clan was to get the members on individually, and Meth was first out of the gate. Being the first post "Enter the Wu" release, this album does not disapoint. It is Rza as a producer, and Meth has an Emcee, in their rawest and ruggedest form. The beats on this album touch all different types of sounds with the rawness attached to it, and the final result was a bizarre twist of dark funk and strange noises which flow with Meth's signature raspy voice and style. Though it wouldn't be terrible if the album was filled with the whole clan making guest appearences, it is perhaps better you only get a few, making this mostly a Meth + Rza production, both in top form.

Perhaps the albums difining moment is on "Bring the Pain", the simple humming with the signature Rza cords make it an excellent beat allowing Meth to spit fire over the track. This is Meth in top-top form where it is more apparent he is a gifted lyracist and not just a blazed out rapper who has a unique style. Although it was mentioned there are only a few collabo's, one of the best tag team/square off Wu records is on here which showcases the groups two most popular members, Meth and Raekwon on "Meth vs. Chef". The two emcees square off in a semi battle rap where both are able to display their different styles and different techniques of word play.

Another one of the top tracks on the album is the "All I Need" which would be a scary "love" song for any other rap act to touch. It is not a pianoed out love ballad with an R&B chorus, it is one of the most raw songs on the entire album due to it's daring beat from Rza. More famous for it's remix featuring Mary J Blige, the original is obviously more for the hardcore fans and I find it to be amazing for it's rawness and creativity.

There are funky parts of "Tical" however and I find them to be two of my favorite on the album, and possibly two of my favorite all time Wu records. "Release Yo Delf" starts of with a modernized and ghetto version of "I Will Survive", the goes into the semi funkiness and reved up trumpet drawn Rza beat. An instant pump up joint with loud lyrics and a screaming chorus. The funkiest song on the album is "P.L.O. Style" which another insane tracks. A horn sounding instrument chimes in from time to time and the flow over the track is laid back which makes it more of an easy listen, but not to easy, enough to keep it raw.

This album in the end goes just south under the 5 star rating, probably due to a couple of tracks being a little too out there. However, the album is one of my personal favorites and easily one of the best Wu joints of all time. Rza in top form, Meth in top form, that is a ridiculous combination and it shows on this records. Maybe one of the best producer/rapper tandoms in all of hip hop. "Tical" is definately an insane record with a raw funk unseen today.
