Best Soundtrack of the 90s,
By A Customer
This review is from: Singles (Audio CD)
This is easily the best movie soundtrack of the 90s (ok, Pulp Fiction Sndtrck. was good too), and I would argue that it is one of the best cds of the 90s. It captures the early 90s Seattle/grunge scene perfectly. The two Pearl Jam songs on here are terrific, and I really enjoy the Paul Westerberg tunes as well. The Smashing Pumpkins gorgeous heart-wrenching track "Drown" is also a highlight.

Best soundtrack ever. PERIOD!!!!!!,

This is the best soundtrack ever. I got it when it first came out and still listen to it frequently. Breath and State of love and Trust are two of the best songs Pearl Jam has ever done, and they've done a lot of cool stuff. Would is one of my favorite AIC songs. The pumpkins song is just awesome. Nothing like early 90s Pumpkins. Really the only song that i'm not crazy about is the Lovemongers Zep remake, but it's not that bad. By the way, to the poster below, the band playing on the stage at the club is Alice in Chains, not Pearl Jam. Buy this cd. You won't regret it.

"Overblown" is right,

Well, this list of names sure reaches right out and grabs you; it reads like a list of all the rock gods of the early '90s, save Nirvana (but who needs them anyway). But realistically, the songs on this album aren't as great as the names. Well, the two Pearl Jam songs are amazing...whoever said they were too good to be left off "Ten" sure was right! And "Would?" is almost better than the Pearl Jam songs. As for the rest of the album, it goes like this: the Cornell track is weak, not at all as good as his work on the "Temple of the Dog" record. The two songs by Paul Westerberg are stupid and don't even fit in this grunge collection. Neither does the Jimi Hendrix track, which sucks, especially for his standards. The Mother Love Bone song kind of drags on, as does the Smashing Pumpkins track, but they're both very good support for the hits on this album, and well worth the time. The Soundgarden and Mudhoney songs are disappointing collections of noise, especially surprising coming from such great grunge innovators. The Screaming Trees put in a great contribution with "Nearly Lost You," a cool song with some interesting chorus lyrics. And that leaves the Lovemongers. Well, here's a bit of advice: if you're going to cover a Led Zeppelin song, at least cover a decent one! That track is truly a disgrace (and the original isn't that great either). So this soundtrack really isn't all it's cracked up to be; but the few good songs are really, really, good (witness the greatness of Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam), so that's why this album gets a relatively high rating. Actually, "State of Love and Trust" alone is worth the $15 I had to pay for this. Nothing beats early Pearl Jam. Eddie Vedder rules!

One of the best soundtracks of the 90's,

This, along with "The Crow" soundtrack, is no doubt 1 of the best soundtracks of the 90's. You can't go wrong with the best bands of the 90's on 1 cd. Chris Cornell's track is absolutely dreamy, & the Mother Love Bone track is great too. I can hardly say 1 bad thing about this cd except does anyone know where on earth that Lovemongers song appears?? I've watched that movie tons of times & have never heard it. I think they could've added the Cult track, although it didn't really fit, but neither did the Hendrix track. Either way, this cd rules.

The best album ever!,

Every song fits in perfectly, how anyone can give this album less then 5 stars is amazing! Comning from a big Pearl Jam fan, that have heard all their music, I must still say that both these songs are two of their best! The album speaks for itself, listen to it, and find out why you love this music!!

Where else can you get all this good music?,

This soundtrack is almost like a collection of hits and b-sides from some imaginary amalgamated band from the great beyond. "Would?" is one of Alice in Chains' best songs ever. "Breath" and "State of Love and Trust" were leftover from Pearl Jam's "Ten" sessions. They're both too good to have been left off "Ten," but it's a delight to have them here. "Seasons" is a peek into Chris Cornell's solo career which is now just beginning. You miss Cornell's old band mates? "Birth Ritual" is a nice slice of classic Soundgarden. "Nearly Lost You" is by far the Screaming Trees' best work. Although very few listeners will know who Mother Love Bone is, when they listen to "Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns," they may recognize a familiar guitar and bass player. That's because Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam were both members of Mother Love Bone, long before they ever found Eddie Vedder working at a gas station. Ironically, Mudhoney's "Overblown" gives singer Mark Arm a chance to whine about the fact that he's recorded at one time or another with almost every big-time Seattle musician, yet no one knows who the heck he is. For kicks, producer Cameron Crowe threw in a Jimi Hendrix tune and a Led Zeppelin cover. Paul Westerburg drops in with a pair of pop songs, and the Smashing Pumpkins add a twelve minute long closer. As a side note, if you see the movie on video, check out the band on stage at the club -- it's Pearl Jam. No one will like all 13 songs on this CD, but every fan of Seattle music and most rock fans in general should be able to find at least eight or nine songs they really like, to make their purchase worthwhile.

Long Gone Day,
By A Customer
This review is from: Singles (Audio CD)
A great selection that reflects the days of the early 90's... I put 3 stars only because there's some great songs mising from the film, like Dig For Fire (Pixies) or Three Days. (Jane's Addiction) Yes, after all these years, I still like "the seattle sound" Am I the only one who remembers that summer??
