5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT SONGS
Greatest Hits by Aerosmith is quite an awesome cd. This is because it contains the groups best tracks from the seventies. It has 1 or 2 songs from their first 6 studio albums. It is a great document for people who are new to the band. I have heard all the albums these tracks come from & these are the best tracks from the period. Here is my rundown of each...

2.0 out of 5 stars for completists only
The original Aerosmith compilation has become nothing more than a relic for completists. Originally released as a single LP record in 1980, there are only 9 songs from their first six records (with two of them, "Sweet Emotion" and "Kings and Queens", substantially edited) and the Beatles cover, "Come Together" (originally featured on the...

Here is my rundown of each track.

Dream On - 10/10 - Brilliant ballad with a excellent vocal from Steve Tyler.

Same Old Song And Dance - 9/10 - Fine rock tune.

Sweet Emotion - 10/10 - Great song from Toys in the Attic.

Walk This Way - 9/10 - One of their most famous songs.

Last Child - 9/10 - Very funky.

Back In The Saddle - 10/10 - One of my favourites. Great playing from Joe Perry.

Draw The Line - 10/10 - Great song.

Kings And Queens - 9/10 - I like this one, a bit different.

The original Aerosmith compilation has become nothing more than a relic for completists. Originally released as a single LP record in 1980, there are only 9 songs from their first six records (with two of them, "Sweet Emotion" and "Kings and Queens", substantially edited) and the Beatles cover, "Come Together" (originally featured on the 'Sgt. Pepper's' movie soundtrack - you know, the one with the Bee Gees). For the casual fan, you can get just as many unedited songs from that era on the newest compilation, 'Oh Yeah!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Este CD es re-chevere!!! This CD Rocks!!!, April 20 2004
This review is from: Aerosmith:Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Grande ^Aerosmith^

Long before flirting with pop and movie themes,Steven and the boys recorded these classics.Starting off as a garage band in Boston,Aerosmith's DREAM ON and WALK THIS WAY catapulted the dudes into superstardom. It is still their best to this day.

4.0 out of 5 stars Could be better, but quite good (4 STARS), Feb 20 2004

This review is from: Aerosmith:Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Many people agree with me that this "Greatest Hits" package could be better, and it is! There is a better compilation that has the same cover as this does, but the title reads "Aerosmith's Greatest Hits 1973-1988." Many of the tracks that fans have complained are missing are included, like "Mama Kin," "Seasons of Wither," "Lightning Strikes," a live version of "One Way Street," and maybe best of all "Chip Away the Stone," which hasn't been featured in its studio form on an album other than "Gems."

Anyhow, the ten songs of this compilation is expanded to 16 and it's about as good as any Aerosmith greatest hits package is going to get. I suggest you look for it in stores, since it doesn't seem to be here. You may have to buy it in a set with the first Aerosmith "Classics Live" CD which is pointless (though it does include "Major Barbara") but usually is only $15. Well worth the ticket price.

Aerosmith Greatest Hits: 8 out of 10. Aerosmith Greatest Hits 1973-1988: 9 out of 10.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Songs, but..., Dec 15 2003
By
This review is from: Aerosmith:Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Great songs, but, come on! this is a Greatest Hits CD, and theres 37 minutes of music... There should be at least 15 songs on here. Not 10. Yeah, theres classics on here, Dream on, Same Old Song and Dance, Walk This Way, Remember (Walking in the sand), and a good Beatles cover of Come Together. But I'm reviewing the CD. Not enough songs. Look for other Best Of Aerosmith's.

Never been a fan od early Aerosmith, even tho some of those cd, are considered classics, by many. But this Greatest hits package, is short and sweet, and to the point. Just the right songs that I liked from those early cds, albums really. Sweet Emotion is not the same that was played in the 90's, which is a better. But this good classic rock and it's best, before their downfall into drugs. A good buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good place to start, Nov 14 2003
By
The Scenario (Roseville, MN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Aerosmith:Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
You gotta look at this CD as more of a "primer" to test the waters to see if you want more early Aerosmith CD's than as the end-all CD to replace all their other 70's albums. It only has ten songs, true, but bear in mind this is a 1980 release. 10 songs was pretty much the industry standard for any album back then. It contains severely edited versions of several songs, the most horrible example being "Sweet Emotion", which deletes the cool talk-box guitar intro and the coda section where it really kicks back in (this version just fades out). Once again, like it or not, this is typical of "greatest hits" albums (hey, the "hit" radio versions of songs typically ARE shortened versions of what you get on the albums). But for those of you only familiar with "Walk This Way", "Sweet Emotion", and "Dream On" from their 70's heyday, you'll find some nice surprises here. "Back In The Saddle", with its galloping rhythm and cool 12-string bass lines, is one of the best things they've ever done, and "Last Child" is a catchy funky number featuring some great Steven Tyler yelps at the end. "Same Old Song And Dance" is another riff-driven rocker with horns (Aerosmith had to be one of the pioneers of combining hard rock with horns). "Draw The Line" is a good noise-rocker that features a great slide guitar riff. People have griped about the inclusion of "Come Together" here, but keep it mind it's not available on any other Aerosmith albums other than the pricey "Pandora's Box". "Kings & Queens" and "Remember (Walking In The Sand)" don't do much for me, but they at least show a softer side of the band, leaning more towards art rock and 60's R&B respectively. Get this, let it grow on you, then pick up "Toys In The Attic" and "Rocks".

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for a Fan of 70's Aerosmith, Nov 14 2003
This review is from: Aerosmith:Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
The only reason that there are only 10 songs is because this disc was made before their comeback in the 80's. This is the disc for people that liked the Hard-Rocking Pre-Hair Metal days. The only down side is that "Sweet Emotion" is unnecessarily edited.
