5.0 out of 5 stars Quite Simply, the best Soundtrack I own
While sitting around, watching Desperado for the first time, an being amazed by it's incredible action sequences, the thought popped into my mind that not only was this an incredible action flick, it had some great music! And so began my quest for the Soundtrack, and when I found it and popped it into my player, I couldent beleive it.

This is one of the rare CD's...

3.0 out of 5 stars Six blade knife, it's the biggest track here........
Just want to say that six blade knife is the best here. The others are boring, i mean espanól songs. Nothing for me. The movie is ..hmm well i'm gonna see it about a week. and listen after the song.... i'm not a fan about antoino banderas bu well, the movie....must be a little good, atleast. So my opinion is to bye the original albums instead..... so goodbye,...

4.0 out of 5 stars Stood the Test of Time and a Great Intro to Los Lobos, Mar 29 2004
This review is from: Desperado: the Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I've had this album for years and it has survived several cleaning sweeps through my CD collection. It has stood the test of time by having a coherence and energy that many soundtracks do not have. The songs are quite a melange with Link Wray, Dire Straits and then Los Lobos and their incarnation, the Latin Playboys in addition to Tito and Tarantula (come one, how can you say no to an album with Tito and Tarantula?)

There are movie dialogue snippets that maybe annoying for some but do add an additional layer for those who are fans of the film Desperado (so many explosions, salma hayek naked.) If the dialogue drives you that crazy you can always modify it with software since the dialogue does not overlap into the music itself.

To get a good introduction to Los Lobos this is a great energetic album and for the Los Lobos fan you have to get this album in conjunction with their multi-disc sets.

Higly recommended and years of enjoyment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very cool, Nov 18 2002

This is a very cool, eclectic disc. Standing on its own even without the movie, the tracks (by everyone from Dire Straits to Los Lobos) have a nice flow to them that well represent the northern Mexico / West Coast sound they're striving for. When I first bought it years ago, it was just another disc, but the more I listen to it, the more I enjoy it. The audio clips from the movie may be a bit distracting to those who haven't seen the film, but they're not particularly long.

4.0 out of 5 stars THIS SOUNDTRACK ROCKS, Sep 20 2001
By
This review is from: Desperado: the Soundtrack (Audio CD)
A fitting companion to a great action film - the highlight of the CD is undoubtedly Tito and Tarantula's "Strange Face of Love" - whoever picked the tracks and produced this album (Rodriguez?) did an excellent job. Too many soundtrack albums sound like random selections of songs. This one feels like a great experience from start to end.

2.0 out of 5 stars Tony and Salma where are you..., Jun 12 2001

I was disappointed, only because the music doesn't carry over the action of the movie. The main reason I purchased the CD was for the song that Salma Hayek sang...her voice is every bit as sensual and seductive as in the movie.

one of the best soundtracks i own.most of the songs here are from los lobos, and on one song even antonio banderas sings.the other songs are "six blade knife" by dire straits,"jack the ripper" by link wray and his men. two of the best songs in any music category.most of the songs jamming and the rest are worth listening to.you also get dialogue from the movie from banderas, cheech marin, quentin tarantino, and steve buscemi.great soundtrack.

This is one of the rare CD's where I can just leave this playing all day and not worry about running into a bad track that i'd normally skip. I have yet to find a fault with any track on this CD. Cancion Del Mariachi, Six Blade Knife, Jack the Ripper, Strange Face of Love, Navajas Attacks and Let Love Reign are the main highlights for me, though just..every track on here is great. The inclusion of lines from the movie at the opening of some of the tracks is great as well.

Los Lobos wrote just an Incredible score for this movie, and it's all perfectly captured on this soundtrack. You could not spend your money any better way, I guarantee you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Compliment to a Fun Movie!, Mar 12 2000

This soundtrack has a great latin rock feel and brings out a lot of brilliant musicians who don't always get the attention they deserve. Many of the songs have a raw performance feel to them which I believe enhances the "dirty" rock and roll texture of the album. I particularly enjoyed the dialogue samples from the movie played in-between many of the tracks. A nice touch in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Explosive mix of ultra-cool music!, Oct 3 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Desperado: the Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Robert Rodriguez's sequel to his films debut, "El Mariachi" may not have been as acclaimed by the critics but I liked it just as much. He enhanced his indie film with a big cast, great action sequences, witty dialogue, and a very cool soundtrack.

This CD compliments the movie in a perfect way. Even better than the "Pulp Fiction" soundtrack. The songs all have a tex-mex flavor and the dialogue included is of great choice. It is great to listen to at any time but it is exceptionally good for an afternoon drive.

The mix of songs is fabulous. "Six Blade Knife" by Dire Straits is a very welcome song. "Bella" from Carlos Santana has some of his smoothest guitar solos I have ever heard out of him. The score from Los Lobos is really good too.

If you haven't seen this film you really do not know what your missing. The soundtrack is equally as good too. Do not miss either of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Utterly cool, Sep 19 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Desperado: the Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This is one awesome soundtrack with all the cool songs from the movie. Unlike many other soundtracks this is one that you will play over and over again. All the songs on this CD are great and if you don't agree I guess you are one of those poor unfortunate people who just can't appreciate good music when you hear it. If you however did like this CD and want more I would recommend everything by Dire Straits. No matter which of their albums you choose you know you're in for top quality music. Comments?
