Soundgarden was at their creative peak with the release of this album. Soundgarden had successful singles in Spoonman, Fell on Black Days and my personal fave, Black Hole Sun. Soundgarden has released a must-have album. 12 years ago, this was the best metal album and quite possibly one of the best grunge albums in the 90s. Chris Connell shines on this album and Superunknown was a #1 album. This album is brilliant and a metallic masterpiece.

11 years and counting since this CD came out. 11 years and counting since there has been another rock CD as good as this. Every track on here is an absolute killer. No filler, no dumb lyrics, no choruses that get amazingly boring after one listen (Linkin Park and Green Day anyone?) "Fell On Black Days" is an amazing track along with "Superunknown", "Spoonman", "The Day I Tried To Live", and of course "Black Hole Sun" which has a great guitar solo about 3 minutes into the song. Everything here sounds very original despite the heavy Zeppelin/Sabbath influences that Soundgarden has. It's too bad they are no more however the were smart to exit while on top and Cornell's new group, Audioslave, is a band to watch out for.

I dont know how to explain on how this album was one of the best albums in the 90's fellowed by Badmotorfinger. It's obvious that Superunknown was consciously styled as a masterwork, and it fulfills every ambition.

rhis cd along with ten,facelift and core from stp were the defining alternative albums of the eighties.songs like spoonman,the day i tried to live and black hole sun are what made this cd great.very highly recommended.

I know I must be offending people by saying this but Soundgarden isnt my favorite grunge band.I think they were a great band no doubt about that but Chris Cornells voice can be a little too unsettling at times such as on Limo Wreck but I think this was a great album.From the opening Let Me Drown to the closing track Like Suicide every song on here is done with style,grace and talent.My favorite song on here is Black Hole Sun but Fresh Tendrils comes in a close second with Fell On Black Days coming in a mean third.I think the riffs on here are great and Chris Cornell has a very talented singing voice no doubt about that.

This is one of the best albums made ever! Every single song sounds diffent and there are 15 tracks. The lyrics don't sound the same, It is not too loud but not too soft. It is impossible not to like one song on this album. Soundgarden is better than Hole and Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots and especially the most overrated band of all time: Nirvana.

Let Me Drown: Not my favorite song, but the chorus is interesting...
My Wave: Very good song. Not the best on the album though.
Fell on Black Days: A masterpiece. Seems even better compared to some of the newer bands of the era. Great Song..
Mailman: Um. I'm not wild about this song, but that is because i dont like the chorus. I dont like one line choruses.
Superunknown: Yah! Great Song . Not really heavy like the previous song. I'm not sure why nobody seems to like it?
Head Down: Filler filler filler. Let Chris Cornell do the lyrics, Ben.
Black Hole Sun: Another Masterpiece. The most popular, but not the best. I like when Cornell screams Black Hole Sun during the end.
Spoonman: This is a really wierd song. It's popularity is really wierd.
Limo Wreck: REally Good Song. "I'm the death of you, I the break of you all"
The Day I Tried To Live: And the award of best song of the century goes to.......
Kickstand: I don't get it. Oh well it's only a minute.
Fresh Tendrils: Boring
Fourth of July: Feels like the world is coming down around you. The intent of this song of course.
Half: Filler. Written by the other obscure band member.
Like Suicide: Good song, not anything spectacular.

Superunknown is a standout gem of the 90's seattle based hard rock scene. It is a timeless classic in my eyes. In the early to mid 90's, we had Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Stone temple pilots, Pearl Jam and these guys representing Seattle's finest and Soundgarden was and still is my favorite out of all of them. This album defines how great this legendary band was, and I recommend it to anyone who hasn't heard it and is interested in them. 'Black Hole Sun' and 'Fell on Black days', being the standout radio hits, are beautifully haunting slow tempo tracks that pull you into their sound. While 'Limo Wreck' and 'The Day I tried to Live', although a bit more upbeat, drift back and forth brilliantly through a dark and moody haze. Those songs are of course marvelous to this day, but I'm an even bigger fan of upbeat and faster rock and that brings me to 'My Wave' and 'Spoonman', which are my back to back favorite tracks of the album. This band has paved the way for many of today's hard rock bands with 'Superunkown'. It is inspirational, and it will very quickly grow on you whether you like it or not.

After 10 years, this one really have passed the test of time, unlike "Nevermind" and "Ten" (the other 2 really important records of the period). The first one is practically unliseneable due to overexposition, and the second sounds very dated. Not the case with superunknown. Heavier, longer and more inspiring than any other record done in It's time. This is not a "grunge" record, is an universal rock and roll masterpiece.
Pd: dummers, if you're interested in the aplication of odd meters in hard rock, this record is obligatory.

This CD by far Soundgarden's best CD ever. If this CD had the song Outshined from Badmotorfinger it would be a complete CD. This CD is like Soundgarden's greatest songs. Such as My Wave, Fell on Black Days, Black Hole Sun, Spoonman, Day I Tried To Live, and Like Suicide. Those songs are just amazing. Greatness! Soundgarden will always hold a certain piece in music history, and this CD is a great example of that. Soundgarden is very musically diverse and each song sounds different and brings a new personality to it.

...and it hasn't lost an ounce of its greatness. This is by far one of the BEST albums of the 90s and also one of my favorites. This is the sound of a band at the top of their form, with GREAT vocals from Chris Cornell! And Kim Thayil RIPS UP the guitar! Check out "Let Me Drown", one of the best songs to open up an album EVER! The song "Superunknown" is a great rocker. And if you want some slower stuff, "Like Suicide" is one of the best closing songs on an album I've ever hear. But actually, all the songs are GREAT! If you want a perfect mix of Led Zeppelin's melodic stomp and Black Sabbath's brooding energy, this album is definately for you. 10 years later, it holds up so much better and than albums that came out a few months ago. If you love "grunge" era rock, or just rock in general, you NEED this album.
