5.0 out of 5 stars Re-release, Re-release, Re-release!!!, April 9 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Nothing To Fear (Audio CD)
Nothing To Fear (but having to spend 30+ dollars on a used copy of this classic CD!!) I'm no marketing expert but wouldn't this CD sell to enough people to make a re-release worth while? Same goes for "Good For Your Soul!" What kind of crazy world is this where you can't just buy the two BEST Oingo Boingo recordings EVER?! Oh and don't even get me started on So-Lo by Danny Elfman!!

This review is from: Nothing To Fear (Audio CD)
I heard this album 22 years ago and it took me to places I never knew existed. If you are to buy only one Oingo Boingo cd in your life this must be the one!
The second one should be Good for your soul. Good luck to you and enjoy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best album cover art ever and great music as well, Dec 5 2003

The cat and lizard on the cover were enough to make me buy this album back in the 80's and the music doesn't disappoint either. 'Grey Matter' is the greatest punk/rock opera/new wave/dance tune ever. This album has a totally unique sound difficult to describe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oingo's finest Boingo-inspired music., July 28 2002
By
This review is from: Nothing To Fear (Audio CD)
This album is 100% Oingo Boingo. And what can we say about Oingo Boingo?
The sound, is fresh even today.
The lyrics, are fresh even today.
The length - short and sweet. 40 minutes. Well-rounded.
The CD - not as good as the vinyl really, but who can jog with a turntable?
This is Boingo's album. Nothing but Boingo here. There are even Boingo-only instruments used on this album. Danny Elfman's band is totally nuts! BUY!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album, Great Band, July 5 2002

The Orange Duke "orangeduke" (Cupertino, Ca United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nothing To Fear (Audio CD)
It's another superb album by the excellent LA New Wave band that is best know for 'Weird Science and 'Dead Man's Party' both from the DEAD MAN'S PARTY album. Here they are just as intoxicating, just as wild, just as bizarre, just as impossible to dislike. A number of their best know tracks come from this superb album, including 'Grey Matter' (a fine statement of purpose) 'Private Life' (an attack on those who consider themselves morally superior) and 'Nothing To Fear' (an excellent refutation of politically correct notions). Also worthy of special notice are 'Running On Treadmill' 'Whole Day Off' and 'Why'd We Come'. No one annunciated the angst and the terror of the average man quite like Elfman, Treadmill and 'Why'd We Come' are best seen as an expression the inescapable tedium of modern life. A must have for fans of the likes of Adam Ant and early Hoodoo Gurus, there really is no one quite like Boingo, Elfman's decision to break up the band was as sinful as it was painful.

In my opinion, Danny Elfman ranks up there on my list of the greatest rock songwriters of all time. I'll even go as far as calling him a genius in many ways. This album, their second, is truly amazing. Packed with great songs such as "Grey Matter", "Private Life", "Nothing To Fear", "Whole Day Off", "Wild Sex" and my favorite Oingo Boingo song of all time "Reptiles and Samurai". Everytime I listen to this I vision a party. It's great party music and Oingo Boingo definitely ranks up there with the greatest party bands. This one will not disappoint you.

5.0 out of 5 stars It just keeps getting better and better!!, Aug 10 2001
This review is from: Nothing To Fear (Audio CD)
I must admit, i am a Oingo Boingo fanatic and i own every single Oingo Boingo album every released and out of all of them, i keep listening to this one, over and over and over. I'm not sure why it is, it could be due to the fact that the songs are catchy, that they are funny and that "Private Life" IS one of the best songs ever recorded. Okay, mabye I am over reacting a little bit, but there is plenty to react about. Every song on this album is a gem and even though the whole album only clocks in at about 40 mins you can stick it on repeat and listen to it over and over and you WILL NEVER GET SICK OF IT!!. In a nutshell, this album rocks and you gotta get out and BUY IT BUY IT!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent OB, Oct 25 2000
By
This review is from: Nothing To Fear (Audio CD)
While "Nothing To Fear" has some of OB's most popular concert songs (like the title track), I prefer its B-sides like "Whole Day Off", "Why'd We Come", and "Running On A Treadmill". These songs show some of the bands most creative work.

This is an excellent CD, representing the L.A. New Wave Scene during its peak. OB was able to mix their ska-punk influences with enough synth pop to make this one a classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone says!, Oct 7 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Nothing To Fear (Audio CD)
I love all the music by D. Elfman but I think he gives his great insite to the world with his words "Everyone says we've come such a long long way, we're civilized, isn't that nice? We've gotton so smart, we know how to blow the whole world apart, but when it comes to the simple things like living together, HA!" This holds more true every day. I think D.Elfman has always been a man ahead of his times. The "Imposter" (on Only A Lad), R. Hilburn (LA Times)just hates to admit it even to this day.

5.0 out of 5 stars It grows on you, like festering mold., Aug 12 2000
This review is from: Nothing To Fear (Audio CD)
This album has three of Boingo's best songs, "Insects", "Private Life" and "Islands," and for those three alone it should be worshipped. There's a little less of the Mystic Knights here than on Only a Lad (the nods to music from the past are less frequent), but it's nearly as addictive and actually touching at times. ("Islands" is such a sad and personal song for early Boingo!) You gotta get it.
