A musical entry into the world of David Lynch and Angelo Badalementi,
By
This review is from: Floating Into the Night (Audio CD)
With this first collaboration between the singer Julee Cruise, David Lynch (lyrics) and Angelo Badalementi (music), an incredible musical and surrealistic universe invades our ears. Indeed, this album contains original songs, but also work from precedent David Lynch projects (eg: Mysteries of Love for Blue Velvet, and also Falling, Nightingale and The World Spins, three songs that were in Twin Peaks). Thematically, those artists present to us the concept of Love with such a grace and poetic images that it enables us to rediscover new aspects from the David Lynch films, but also to engulf our imgination, inviting us to discover romantic images, hidden deep within our subconscious. As such, this album is a real pleasure with which we can discover images of dreams, other aspects from David Lynch's works, and also - and most importantly - the incredible power of Julee Cruise`s voice.

I have read some of the reviews here that describe the album as having a jazzy feel to it.I disagree.I think the songs are dreamlike and radiate sheer beauty. It really is a desert ilsand classic.''Rocking back inside my heart''is my favorite track.

a must have for all david lynch/ angelo badlamenti / "twin peaks" fans. this is a disc that holds together well as an album, with a consistant mellow beauty that can be enjoyed with or without knowledge of the references to "twin peaks" that it contains.cruise's voice is cherubic, and creates a tone remeniscent of the following: cocteau twins, the ep "a folding seive" by shiFt, hope sandoval/ mazzy star, some tracks of rachel's album "selenography".

i had first heard julee cruise in the eighties when i saw david lynch's masterpiece blue velvet. do you remember the song mysteries of love which plays at the end of the film when kyle mclachlan & laura dern are observing the sweet sounds of birds? wow! although i didn't buy her work until the early ninities, i was in love with the beautiful music to such a great film. after i bought floating into the night, i simply couldn't bring myself to take it out of rotation in my cd player & perhaps i even annoyed people around me but i didn't care. it was that good. yes, julee cruise's beautiful & ethereal vocals could keep you entranced for hours on end & it makes great sleepytime music too if you need a cd to fall asleep with. it's hard to categorize ms. cruise unfortunately without being somewhat unfair to her artistic integrity. angelo badalamenti is a brilliant composer & ms. cruise has worked with him on nearly every album since blue velvet. perhaps you remember the theme music for the tv show twin peaks or the theatrical prequel entitled fire walk with me? all great works. listening to cruise is like playing a spooky, smoky jazz alongside some terrif new age music amidst a malt-shop '50s sound. with the voice of an angel, you can't help but fall into her spell time & again so definately pick up a copy of this cd if you haven't already. i would probably recommend this cd to mazzy star fans, david lynch completists(he writes the lyrics here folks), or new age music lovers who love enya. if you think you might be interested after reading this review, i'm sure you'll love every second of this lovely album. check out tracks like falling, mysteries of love, & the nightingale for an idea of what i'm talking about. peaceful listening folks. long live badalamenti, cruise, & lynch !!!

I'm sure alot of people came to know "Julee Cruise" from the music of "Twin Peaks". If your a fan of that soundtrack, this is more of the same. In fact, three songs here are on that soundtrack. The music is very much how others have desribed it, "haunting", "mysterious", etc., and it has a light jazz feeling to it, without really being jazz at all. You could snap your fingers in a few spots though. Overall a very moody album, and while it's all good, some of the songs are absolutely beautiful, like "Nightingale", and "Falling". Her album "The Voice Of Love" is just as good too. Any of the above mentioned cd's will have you "Floating Into the Night".

If you've ever been asked which five albums you'd want on a deserted island and didn't include this, it's because you haven't heard it yet. From the provocative sexuality of opening track "Floating" to the stark funereal beauty of closer "The World Spins", you will choose favorites but will seldom skip a track. Some of the most beautifully written, arranged, recorded, and sung songs I've ever heard are on this album. If you've ever lived another life, Julee Cruise will make you realize it; if you've ever wondered what lies between earth and heaven, Julee Cruise will give you a clue; if you're so in love that you mourn, Julee Cruise's voice will become your soundtrack.

Considering this is the THIRD time I've purchased this album it has to be good. Lost the last two to ex's who also cherished it. Perfect blend of the darkness of David Lynch, the instrumentals of Angelo Badalementi, and the beautiful voice of Julee ,it's one of my favorites. If you were addicted to Twin Peaks you'll love it.

If you like Enya or Loreena McKennitt, you'll like Julee Cruise. The lilting voices inside lovely melodies, reminding one of a fairy gathering at twilight in Ireland!

I just ordered this CD, I've owned two copies of this CD in the last 8 years and loaned them out to have them never returned. It's a classic, no one I've shared this music with has ever disliked it and most instantly fall in Love over it. I've looked in several local stores and could not find it to replace it in my collection, so I'm now happy to have found it here and ordered it. Do yourself a favor, expericence this musical masterpiece, it will never leave you.
