5.0 out of 5 stars Not a dud in the bunch, Nov 13 2004
This review is from: Ingenue (Audio CD)
This is one of the most perfect albums I've ever come across. I'd put it in the same category as some of the great rock albums or R&B cuts.

For the first time in my life, I'm at a loss to say which song I like the best. Having listened to this over and over and over, I still find new things.

Wonderfully crafted and full of deep truth and soul-searching, this is a must for anyone who likes K.D. And even for those who don't.

If I had to pick, "Wash me Clean" and "Constant Craving" are probably going to be the ones most people warm to, but again, there's not a dud in the bunch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully done, Nov 11 2006

This is definitely one of the best albums of the 1990's and certainly one of k.d. lang's best (although my favourite is the incredible "Absolute Torch and Twang"). The album has one beautiful song after another. As gorgeous as the songs are, they are made even more extraordinary by k.d.'s heartfelt and stunning vocals. What a voice!!!

No doubt most people have heard "Constant Craving" and perhaps "Miss Chatelaine". They are great songs, but the highlights on this album are "Still Thrives This Love" and "Mind Of Love".

This album is a definite keeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best CD's I Own!, Jun 8 2004
This review is from: Ingenue (Audio CD)
This collection is a tapestry of human passion, a weaving of human dreams and aspirations and pure mood!

It has a beautiful, mystical type quality to it, that few musicians could match. Not many could match the pure beauty of these songs. One reviewer called this "mental medication," well it sure beats valium, just kidding. The true music listener, the careful music listener sees the treasure of this wonderful CD.

I picked this CD up @ the library for something different to listen to at work. I was familiar with 'constant craving' & thought k.d.'s voice was clear & smooth, but by the time the CD played to the last song (constant), I had forgotten all about it! I'd never really listened to her in depth, but that will soon change. I really like the smooth, coolness of her voice - there's not a bad cut on the CD. I'm looking forward to listening to her others.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Out There, Aug 7 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Ingenue (Audio CD)
When this album came out, I already owned Absolute Torch and Twang, which I loved. I was watching Johnny Carson one night and there she was to sing a song off of her new album, Ingénue. She sang "Wash Me Clean" and it was the most amazing thing I had ever heard. When she finished the last word, and song ended, the audience was silent for about 5 seconds - probably stupefied that they were fortunate enough to have just witnessed a once-in-a-lifetime performance. I went out and purchased the CD the next day and it has been in my regular rotation for over 10 years now. A really nice album of intelligent, sharply arranged, perfectly executed music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure, lusty, and beautiful!, April 20 2003

The song that really got me interested in k.d. lang (and in the "Ingénue" CD in particular) was "Miss Chatelaine." Although I had heard "Constant Craving" before, I never really took notice of what I was hearing. I fell in love with "Miss Chatelaine" the first time I heard it; from the opening violin strains it was like I was in a daze, hypnotized by the seductive beat, lyrics, and VOICE. The title of that song actually eluded me the first few times I heard it, which only made it frustrating, seeing as I loved the song but had no idea of the title for obtaining a copy for myself. Once I learned the title though, it was only a matter of time until I had become a fan of Ms. lang. I actually bought the "All You Can Eat" CD first (read my review of A.Y.C.E.), and then I purchased "Ingénue."

I have not regretted that purchase for a moment since. All the songs on this CD are beautiful, not just the two already mentioned. There is a definite air of seduction in the entire range of tracks here. Choice songs are of course "Miss Chatelaine," "Still Thrives This Love," "Season Of Hollow Soul," "Outside Myself," and "The Mind Of Love," although the whole CD is awesome. This would be the perfect CD to make love to, in my opinion. It certainly creates a mellow mood, perfect for relaxing with the one you love. I have three words for you if you are a fan of good, mesmerizing music: BUY THIS CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Torch Song Triumph, Dec 1 2002

Here k d lang turns into a stylish torch singer with a cool, subdued vocal style inspired by late 50's/early 60's singers like Patsy Cline, Connie Francis and Peggy Lee. Now and then she even veers into jazzy realm as on the elegant Ms Chatelaine. This set mainly consists of intelligent ballads like Save Me, The Mind Of Love and Wash Me Clean, but her consummate artistry is best displayed on the two stand-out tracks Still Thrives This Love with its compelling hook, and Season Of Hollow Soul which reminds me of the finer moments of the band Everything But The Girl. Ingenue is excellent in its genre but probably an acquired taste for most.

In every artist life there is one piece that is the pinnacle of their career, and I believe INGENUE is the supreme offering of
k.d.lang. Each and every song on this CD is a hit! Her voice and style are truly amazing. I strongly recommend INGUENE to you all! The only comment I have for k.d. is:

5.0 out of 5 stars An overlooked masterpiece!, July 6 2002
By
This review is from: Ingenue (Audio CD)
This is an excellent album that finds k.d. Lang at her very best! k.d.'s dynamic voice is definitely the main attraction of this album, as she maximizes it to convey the intensity of songs that are introspective without sounding trite or syrupy. A bevy of musical instruments including the accordion, violin, vibraphone, steel guitar and mandolin compliment k.d. and enhance the quality of the songs without detracting from her beautiful voice. The standout single is "Constant Craving" but songs like "The Mind of Love", "Miss Chatelaine", "Wash Me Clean" and "So It Shall Be" add great depth and dimension to the album and are essential to its atmosphere. This is easily her best album that becomes more compelling with each subsequent listening. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
