ZZ Top- Greatest Hits(1992).Right around the beginning of MTV, one band in particular, ZZ Top, took advantage of Music Videos, blending humor with a catchy mix of Southern, Blues, and Arena Rock, instantly propelled them into superstardom. The infectious trio was comprised of Billy Gibbon(Vocals and Guitar), Frank Beard(Drums), and Dusty Hill(Bass)who came together bymixeing addictive riffs and gravelly vocals courtesty of Gibbons, Top-Notch drumming from Beard, and catchy basslines from Hill. From the Early 70's to the Early 90's, ZZ Top was a hit machine, so it's understandable that many compilations have been made. So how does ZZ Top- Greatest Hits measure up? Read on to find out... PROS- CONS- Overall, ZZ Top-Greatest Hits is very good, and would have been great if not for the remixes of "Legs" and "La Grange", and the fact that it doesn't cover many of ZZ Top's albums. I will say that the remix of "La Grange" sound very similar, yet "Legs" is different. You shouldn't change the originals! This set easily contains all of ZZ Top's hits, and this is exactly what casual fans are looking for if the want a taste of the Top! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! ZZ TOP-GREATEST HITS ADEQUATELY COVERS ALL OF ZZ TOP'S HITS WITHOUT MISSING A BEAT, AND IS THE MOST ACCESSIBLE TO CASUAL FANS! Also Recommended- Eliminator- ZZ Top Thanks For Reading!

Awesome despite the new 'Legs',

Some times an artist's re-recording of one of his/their biggest hits works out quite well, and even improves upon the original tune. Take Sammy Hagar's 'Heavy Metal' for example-- his original version was pretty rockin', but the second one was even more so! Then there's WhiteSnake's 'Here I Go Again', where they made the second effort more rockin', and less pop-ish than the initial version.Unfortunately, ZZ Top's new 'Legs' here doesn't have the good fortune of being an improvement on the original; the new backing guitar & bass lines didn't sound as cool as the old ones. Otherwise, 'Legs v.2' ain't half-bad. And most of the other tracks, covering the group's most extensively-played from their Spanish-titled-album days up to 'Recycler', make for good drivin' tunes for those days when you're toolin' down some lonely stretch of highway whilst imagining you're drivin' that hot rod on the 'Eliminator' album at top speed. There's also 'I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide' and 'Cheap Sunglasses' for those weekend nights of cruisin' down the somewhat busy streets of the local metroplex. 'Rough Boy' is just the right mood-setter for those quiet moments of relaxed reflection. For the rock-n-roll nostalgia buffs, the group's hard-hittin' cover of 'Viva Las Vegas' makes 'the King's' version seem like elevator music in comparison. And we musn't overlook the subtle naughtiness of 'Tush', 'Tube Snake Boogie' and 'Pearl Necklace' to get one thinking of less-than-pure things. Needless to say, I highly recommend this for the casual ZZ Top fan that enjoys the trio's most widely-played cuts from their glory days. For the original version of 'Legs', however, you need look no further than the 'Eliminator album (available at www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000002KYR/qid%3D1088123460/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/002-6699831-0404821). Otherwise, this platter is more than worth what the Amazon Marketplace sellers are askin' for it... 'Late

Buy this cd and the Afterburner cd and you have a complete collection of this awsome bands greatest hits.I have always loved ZZtop since they had a very uniqe sound for their time and embodied the sound of southern hard rock. Yes it missing a couple of cool songs but contains so many on this cd that I have to give it 5 stars.

2 BIG Omissions,
By A Customer
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Where are the 2 charted hits "Stages" and "Velcro Fly?" Both off the album, Afterburner, it seems odd that they're not included, especially when several soundtrack cuts and lesser-known, less successful tracks ARE included. Shame on you boys.

Gun Love,
By Tnahpellee "Brendan" (Australia) - See all my reviews

I know the hits are on here and all that but I bought it solely for "Viva Las Vegas" and "Gun Love" since they are only available here. Pity Reverberation isn't on here [it's so teasing!, since that song which is also hard to get is mentioned in the liner notes.] Anyway, I agree that Viva Las Vegas could have been done better, but the singing is very good, by backing Girls and Dusty is such a good singer. That song is fun to listen to. So after that I put on Gun Love, and I think that is one of their best songs. It's mellow I know, but it has a great melody, and features the piano. I was really happy with that song so I will give this five stars. Those two songs are often looked down by critics but who cares about critics! VLV made the top 20 and Gun Love made the top 10! I also listened to the new version of Legs and I like it more than I like the old version, just a bit, because unlike most remixies which are just additions of synth-drums over the original songs, this song has extra vocal parts, i.e. backing vocals, and it has extra guitar parts, and it has this unusual sound in the background near the end that was used on the ending of "Vincent Price Blues". And it was no more techno or dance than the original, well not much. Anyway you already have the original on Eliminator. I wasn't all that fussed about their hits, except Legs and Rough boy, so my fave's here after "Gun Love" are "Give it up" "Tush" "La Grange" "Rough Boy" "Doubleback" "My heads in Mississippi" and "Tube snake booige" I would have like to have seen "Stages" on here which was a number one instead of "Planet of women" which I am not even sure was a single. Also, why not "It's only love"? it was a bigger hit than a couple of the songs here, and since nothing from Tejas was on the earlier Best of collection, something should be here. Anyway, I have it on Tejas so I can survive.

There may be a few reasons for the fanatic to complain, but for the most part, this is a great collection for casual fans. It includes all the big hits like "Gimmie All Your Lovin", "Sharp Dressed Man", "Tush", and "La Grange", but also has great songs like "Rough Boy", "Give It Up", "Sleeping bag", and "Tube Snake Boogie". "Viva Las Vegas" could have been done better, but it's ok, and I wish "Legs" was the original, because it has a different intro here. Otherwise it's a great 18 track collection, and I'd much rather have this than a "Pearl Necklace".
