3.0 out of 5 stars Adrenaline for the people
Deftones'first album is not an easy listening job at all... This one is -like the title says- pure adrenaline. Aggression and anger. Furious screaming with sharp guitaring. There are hints of the Tones' greatness in these songs already, but "Adrenaline" gets nowhere near the two follow-ups "Around The fur" and "White Pony". If you are new to...

This review is from: Adrenaline (Audio CD)eww...this cd is amazing but deftones is everything but emo...not emo! METAL. This is definately one of their best.
4.0 out of 5 stars Emo-core? No, this is metal. Deftones: Adrenaline review,
This review is from: Adrenaline (Audio CD)This is metal. I don't get why some of the reviews call it emo? It isn't, this is real metal at its best. It is raw and unfiltered. It sounds very hard though! Note: This is a debut and not a lot of bands sound the same after their debut CD. So take that warning when you buy this CD!
5.0 out of 5 stars EMOtional Hardcore,
This review is from: Adrenaline (Audio CD)WWOOWW... this is pretty awesome. The thing with deftones is that they dont really have a set genre... In my opinion they sound EMo CORE... they borrow styles from Tool, Weezer, Fugazi, and the later Bad Brains. They even have a little punk influence as well. You can't really label this band nu metal. WOW just because they have heavy riffs and some what slow beats they're automatically labeled nu metal. Thats really not the case. and whatever label it what you want. But this CD is very very amazing. Chino's vocals sound the most pure in this album. every deftones cd pretty much rocks. GET THIS ALBUM!!!!!!!
5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Metal Album of the 90s,
This review is from: Adrenaline (Audio CD)The Deftones are a band who go against the grain, constantly evolve and sound like no other band around. They have been placed in a genre with bands like Korn,Slipknot, Linkin Park etc....this is,to me, a great injustice to a band whos music is far more layered, deep and innovative than all these bands.
'Adrenaline', although i love the other three emensely, is still my favourite Deftones album. The raw aggression of this record is breath taking.Songs like 'seven words','engine no. nine" and "nosebleed" are moshpit classics. The band also illustrate their differences from other "nu-metal",(i hate calling the Deftones this), bands with songs that are as atmospheric, dark and moody as they are aggressive. Songs like "Firreal" and 'Root' indicate the way in which the Deftones were to evolve in the next few records they released. The hidden track 'Fist" , is in my opinion of the most beautiful songs around. Adrenaline is the best album in its genre period.
1.Bored 8/10- the most radio friendly song on the album, great none the less.
5.0 out of 5 stars Downright Awesome,
This review is from: Adrenaline (Audio CD)This cd is perfect and downright scary in it's own weird way. It just amazes me how well they made this album. This music just puts me in such a euphoria state of being. Yet it's very aggresive and hard it just sets you in the mood for the unknown. That's how amazing this cd is you don't know which way it's coming at you cuz it's all good!
5.0 out of 5 stars Freakin Awesome,
This review is from: Adrenaline (Audio CD)This is the best cd i own. It rocks. Between the unbelievably awesome guitar riffs and Chino voice, this cd rocks. If you like old Staind or Korn, you will like this cd. 7 words is the best song.
5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect.,
This review is from: Adrenaline (Audio CD)First off, this isn't my favorite Deftones album. Truthfully, I don't have any favorite Deftones album. Each album, in my opinion, is a separate state of mind, and a different piece of art. Around The Fur is by far their best-flowing album, White Pony is their most ecletic cd, and their self-titled is their most beautiful disc, even if it is a bit short. What, then, makes Adrenaline so special compared to the other albums? It not only showed what was to come from these Sacto, CA rockers, but it kicked ass the whole time.
When I mean it "kicked ass," I don't mean the whole album sounds like Slipknot with an odd groove to it. No, not at all. Half of the songs are very quiet, at least at the beginning, and build up to a colossal wall of sound. Some good examples of mellow-psycho tracks are "Lifter," "One Weak," and "Birthmark." Then, of course, you have your mosh songs. Prime cuts are "Bored," "7 Words," "Nosebleed," and "Engine Number 9." These songs will make you jump out of your seat, literally. When I first listened to "7 Words" while driving on the highway, I started bouncing up and down, and I sped up to about 85 or so. Needless to say, I figured out that self-control is necessary when one is driving and listening to Adrenaline.
After the first nine tracks, you get into a whole different world. It is hinted at in "One Weak" slightly, even a little in "Root," but not capitalized on until "Fireal," ... Then...you have, in my opinion, the best Deftones song of all-time; "Fist," track 11, the secret track. It refers to a lost love, yet this song, like many other Def songs, have no need of understand what Chino is exactly saying to know what he means. This song has amazing orchestration, even though it is a bit short, and is the perfect ending song, right up there with "Brena" by A Perfect Circle and "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails.
The bottom line: If you love metal, particularly Korn or Snot-type newer metal, you'll love this album. The thing is, though, that I do not consider myself much of a metal fan, yet I love this cd. Its songwriting, creativity and sheer emotion makes this album definitely worth buying. It will touch you, because it has touched everyone I know who listened to it. It is, for lack of a better word, perfect, like all other Deftones cds.
4.0 out of 5 stars Strong Debut from Even Stronger Band,
This review is from: Adrenaline (Audio CD)This Deftones album, "Adrenaline", is a piece of the base that forms the nu-metal pyramid. It partly holds all of the other bands of their time, and future bands to come.
"Adrenaline" starts out with a subtle bang as "Bored" begins with it's growling guitar intro. Then it sends you into an even louder and heavier journey that lasts until the final note in "Fireal".
Chino's emotions are felt through listening to this album like no other. Each song has its own tone and its own personality. You don't even have to listen to the lyrics, you just just feel it in the words.
With talent like that, talent that can reach out, grab the listener, and throw them against the wall...it's impossible not to give this album a five star rating.
If you heard the Deftones on the radio, or heard about them from a friend, go pick up this album. If you like this one, be sure to check out "Around the Fur", "White Pony", and the self titled.
5.0 out of 5 stars A debut of many great songs to come.,
This review is from: Adrenaline (Audio CD)A must have for any collection. Around The Fur is my personal favorite of there albums, but you cannot go wrong with this one. I bought this C.D in 1995 and I still play it on a daily basis. The riffs are catchy, durms are pounding, and Chino grabs you with his gentle yet blood curdling screams. Lifter is my favorite title on this one. There are no disapointments on the whole C.D. The first time you listen to it you might not think its great. I loved it from the start. But give it a few trys, I guarantee you will love it. Deftones have staying power in the music world. And this C.D is no different.
