5.0 out of 5 stars A great movie with a fabulous soundtrack.
This album includes wonderful covers of soul and jazz music. The male lead is raw and edgy with strong vocals. I believe he pays great homage to the artists he covers.

2.0 out of 5 stars commitments vol2
Not as good as the original ( not volume 2 )

If you want to hear music featured throughout the movie
get the cd titled just "The Commitments"

Having just completed my 10th+ viewing of this movie I remain convinced, it is very good. The music, the storytelling, and the quality of the production make this a classic in our household. When it becomes a little too quiet around the house or moods are low there is always a copy of "The Committments" ready to view. The question remains will there be a sequel? Andrew Strong please step up to the mike one more time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great soundtrack for a great film, Feb 10 2002
This review is from: The Commitments (Audio CD)
Man I love this music! White Irish guys singing soul -- who knew it would work so well?

If you like the stylings of Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, and Wilson Pickett, you've gotta pick this CD up. There's a lot of passion in these renditions of "Mustang Sally", "I can't Stand the Rain", and, my personal favorite, "Try A Little Tenderness". These covers take nothing away from their originals -- they're amazing. I like to sing along to them, and imagine myself as an Irish rocker. DEFINITELY pick this one up.

Oh, and definitely see the movie as well, if you haven't already.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST-BUY . . . ESPECIALLY IF YOU LOVED THE MOVIE, Jan 1 2002
This review is from: The Commitments (Audio CD)
If you saw and loved the music in the movie The Commitments, then I urge you now to buy this CD. The songs are played exactly as you heard them in the movie, which is a good thing, because we all know that those Dubliners played those songs with Irish enthusiasm! If memories of the movie start coming back while you're listening to this CD, you know why. It was THAT good. And so is this CD. Nuff said.

5.0 out of 5 stars Withstands the test of time..., Aug 21 2001
This review is from: The Commitments (Audio CD)
I have had this CD since it was released along with the movie, since, when? 1993 or thereabouts? Anyway, it is one that I never tire of! I may not listen to it as much as I did when I first bought it, but every few months it finds it's way into the car, or onto the stereo at home. Slow or fast, male or female singer, every song on this CD is terrific!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excelent movie and soundtrack!, Aug 3 2001

I have seen the movie "The Commitments" and I have the soundtrack. The movie is a real feel-good comedy-drama talking about a rising Irish soul band. A line from the movie said: "Soul is the working man's music." I think that is all too true. This music from the 60's wasn't always at the top of the charts, but it gave everybody a relaxed and yet energetic feel to its listeners. I highly suggest that you see the movie and listen to the soundtrack.
