It took at least 30-40 years for the world to wake up and realize Ram to be the masterpiece it is.
Paul was unjustly criticized in 1971 for releasing what critics termed a "lightweight effort"
But, in all honesty, how does one follow up "Abbey Road"?

This album came out when I was 10 years old, and I bought a half-share in a copy with my best buddy, Joe Schwartz. We were both huge Beatles fans, but we also loved this album, too. The record used to trade hands every week or so, and somewhere not very far along the line, one of us (I think it was him, he thought it was me) put a nick in the groove of the song called...

But, in all honesty, how does one follow up "Abbey Road"?
The complex arrangements on Dear Boy, the grand orchestrations on Uncle Albert and Back Seat of My Car, the biting satire of Too Many People.
And, the remastering here is so great, it's like listening to "Ram" all over again.
This album is definitely worth revisting, and it's pleasures are many.

This album came out when I was 10 years old, and I bought a half-share in a copy with my best buddy, Joe Schwartz. We were both huge Beatles fans, but we also loved this album, too. The record used to trade hands every week or so, and somewhere not very far along the line, one of us (I think it was him, he thought it was me) put a nick in the groove of the song called "Ram On" (hence the name of my review). My fave song was "Smile Away." I can't say this album (I subsequently bought my own copy in the 80s) held up all that well for me, but it's a sentimental favorite.

It's hard to review this album. There, I said it. This is just an album full of fun, catchy songs. A lot of people will disagree with me saying that Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey is Paul McCartney's best solo song, but it's on this album, along with 13 other fantastic songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Mc Cartney's solo albums... Indispensable, Jun 12 2004
This review is from: Ram (Audio CD)
It's a must have. It has passed very well the test of time and I only wish I could write songs like that...
I owned (and own) the LP, and was furiously searching it in CD for some years (I know it's ready available now...), but HOW I SEARCHED FOR THAT ELUSIVE CD!.
Mc Cartney's second solo album is sligthly better then the first ("Mc Cartney" wich is also a MUST HAVE) and contains such imperishable songs as "Dear Boy", but what is more, in a relaxed way the output was above par and Paul sounds at his happiest and easylistening...
ONE OF MY FAVORITES FROM ALL TIME... GET IT FOR YOUR COLLECTION.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable album!, May 27 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Ram (Audio CD)
This album, like all Paul McCartney solo albums, is enjoyable. Also, like all Paul McCartney solo albums, you wish John was there to give him a "look" or help him with a word here and there or come up with a "middle eight."

Tim Riley, in his book, "Tell Me Why," talks about the single, "Hello Goodbye," describing it as the kind of light-hearted, innocuous ditty that Paul could knock off in his sleep. I feel the same way about "Ram." It is a light-hearted, innocuous ditty that Paul could've knocked off in his sleep. Don't get me wrong, it's a good album. Paul is a pro when it comes to writing commercial, catchy tunes. But, as with all the solo Beatle albums, after listening to 10-12 songs by the same Beatle, you REALLY miss the group dynamic which the Beatles had in spades.

If you have never bought a solo McCartney album, this would be a good one to start with. It showcases Paul's talents well- catchy melodies, great vocals, and offbeat arrangements.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite McCartney Album - RAM, May 19 2004

I find it funny but nice that people are discovering this album for the first time in recent years. I wore this album out back in 1971, when I was 11. It is my favorite Paul McCartney album. It has his best hit single - "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey." I remember driving to California from Texas with my parents and this song came on the Western radio stations long before it reached Dallas. We heard it constantly on the radio. "Dear Boy" on the album precedes "Uncle Albert" and it is a perfect segway. If you like RAM, I think you will also like "Red Rose Speedway." RAM is a must for any Beatles/McCartney fan.

One of the first albums I ever bought(...). I also bought "Wings Over America". What a delight to have this collection. I really hated the Beatles music growing up, but learned to appreciate Paul as a solo artist. Who could stand all those screaming girls going gaga over the Beatles. I later would appreciate John Lennon too. The "Ram" and "Wings Over America" albums are the best collection of songs ever put out by one of the Beatles. The "Ram" album rocks from beginning to end. Have a great time with this one. These two albums combined will keep you rockin into the night.

Buy this album. Don't go into it expecting anything certain, because then you're bound to be disappointed. Listen to it the whole way through, and I think you won't be dissappointed. There's little more to say. The music speaks for itself.

4.0 out of 5 stars Charming in its own way, May 3 2004
This review is from: Ram (Audio CD)
Keeping it simple, I'll say this: This may not be McCartney's best album, but it is definitely worth having if you enjoy his music. Each track is worth hearing (okay, forgetting either version of "Ram On"), and the album's rough edges actually give each song a certain charm that wouldn't exist otherwise. Besides, it has "Monkberry Moon Delight," which has some of the funniest lyrics I've ever heard, so it's worth it. Other good tracks are "Too Many People," "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey," and "Back Seat of My Car".
