Pretty Good Band,
By Trevor Gendre "Master Canada" (Wpg, MB) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Ghosts That Haunt Me (Audio CD)
I just finished listening to "The Crash Test Dummies" C.D. "The Ghosts That Haunt Me" and I thought it was pretty good. If you are in the mood for some relaxing evening music than this is the C.D. to have. My favourite song on this C.D. has to be Superman's Song. Although the C.D. is slightly short, it is still a keeper.

Top Ten Album,

This album and "God shuffle his feet" are 2 of my top ten favorite albums of all time. Brad Roberts unique Baritone voice is unmatched by any other performer I have heard. His lyrics are both clever and introspective. Do not miss these two rRecordings.

The First and Finest,
This review is from: The Ghosts That Haunt Me (Audio CD)
While I love the Dummies' subsequent and highly-stylized forrays into the tangled human psyche, Ghost is by far the most clever and most fun. The dreariness of the subjects is mitigated by the warm, open jangle of accoustic guitar, mandolin and banjo, sassy organ riffs and a happy little penny whistle. If these are ghost stories (and they certainly are!), they're being told in a treehouse by your favorite eccentric grandpa. This is a must-have for fans and newbies alike.

Dummies For Beginners,

This review is from: The Ghosts That Haunt Me (Audio CD)
I first heard the Crash Test Dummies on a Christmas album called "A Lump of Coal". Their rendition of "The First Noel" was the best thing on that album, and it intrigued me enough to buy their first album. It is a pretty good album, with two great songs, "Superman's Song" and "At the Funeral". The rest of the songs range from okay to good. The band has a really original sound, and many people will probably like this CD.

Love this album,

What a great set of songs. While some serious subjects are dealt with they are written with a real sense of wit and sly humour. Superman Song and Ghosts that Haunt Me were offered as the hits, and while they are good there are others I feel that are just as good, such as Comin' Back Soon, Country Life, Here on Earth and At My Funeral. I strongly recommend this album

Still a lot of fun,

I first bought this album in 1992 as a high school senior after hearing Superman's Song. My initial reaction was disappointment. I wasn't expecting the "twangy" sound found throughout the album. But as I listened to it more it really grew on me. My Top-40 listening friends all thought I was nuts, but for me it was a refreshing change from the music playing on the airwaves at that time. However as the age of the CD came further into light, this tape got shoved to the back of the pile and forgotten about. Last week I came upon the album in a used cd store. It hasn't left my car cd player since. I've been driving around belting out lines like "We won't spend the rest of our lives together...But anyway couldn't we go on a trip together" There are some albums I bought in 1992 that sound sooooo 1992. But this one still seems fresh and fun. I have developed a great appreciation for bluegrass and "alt-country" and this fits right in and adds a bit of whimsy to the mix. My only complaint would be that the album is over too quickly!

Recently, I came upon the album in a record store. It didn't leave my car stereo for quite awhile. I drove around for the next week, belting out lines like "We won't spend the rest of our lives together...But anyway, couldn't we go on a trip together?" Even a few months later, it's the one I grab when I'm in a good mood...or need to get into one. There are some albums I bought in 1992 that sound *so* 1992. But this one still sounds fresh and fun. I have developed a great appreciation for bluegrass and "alt-country" and this fits right in, plus adds a bit of whimsy to the mix. My only complaint would be that the album is over too quickly!

One of my favorite albums,
This review is from: The Ghosts That Haunt Me (Audio CD)
I bought this CD in 1992 because Superman's Song had gotten a little play on a local radio station. I don't usually make a purchase based on just one tune, but I'm glad I did in this case because the rest of the album is amazing. Personal favorites for me are The Voyage, Here on Earth, Comin' Back Soon and of course the title track. Great stuff, with a lot of moods expressed in just 10 songs and a little under 40 minutes playing time. Highly recommended! As a side note, the woman who does the backing vocals on this and the other CTD albums, Ellen Reid, recently released a solo album herself. It's pretty amazing in it's own right--if you can find a copy of Cinderellen, i would suggest giving it a try as well.

Humble beginnings...,

I heard and bought this album after the release of "God Shuffled His Feet" and I was pleasantly surprised. Far from what I normally listen to, this album has a certain carefree attitude that I can't help but enjoy. Although I still prefer "God Shuffled His Feet" over this debut album, I also think this is what CTD is and should be about.

Superman's Song,

Weirdly brilliant song was the reason I bought this disk ("Supe had a straight job, even though he coulda smashed into any bank in the United States." So true.) The rest of the disk is pleasant enough.
