5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, heartfelt music
I used to be the kind of person who would simply hate this guy and his music because everyone else did, boy was I in for a surprise. The first time I ever listened to this album which was recently, it blew my mind. I had no idea of the virtuosity and emotion this guy was capable of unleashing. I usually listen to guitar instrumentalists such as Greg Howe and Vinnie Moore...

I've never been able to comprehend the popularity of Kenny G, as well as his label as a "Jazz Musician". About the closest association I can make with Kenny G and Jazz is the fact that his mind numbing music is played predominately on a soprano sax. If I had to put a genre on his music, I'd have to lean towards soft rock or easy listening, i.e. the fast food...

4.0 out of 5 stars KENNY G IS GREAT, July 8 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Breathless (Audio CD)
THIS ALBUM AND THE MOMENT ARE MY FAVORITES OF KENNY G OTHER THAN FAITH AND MIRACLES. THERE ARE ONLY A COUPLE OF SONGS THAT I DON'T THINK ARE GREAT, WHICH IS WHY I GAVE IT 4 STARS INSTEAD OF 5.

I've never been able to comprehend the popularity of Kenny G, as well as his label as a "Jazz Musician". About the closest association I can make with Kenny G and Jazz is the fact that his mind numbing music is played predominately on a soprano sax. If I had to put a genre on his music, I'd have to lean towards soft rock or easy listening, i.e. the fast food of the music industry. And Kenny-boy is truely the super-sized version of it all.

People can call this good music and enjoy it all they want. I'm not going to tell you want you can listen to. But please, please, stop insulting the jazz genre and it's great history by lumping in Kenny G. If you want good jazz go find some Coltrane, Miles Davis, or Charlie Parker for starters. You don't have to be a so-called purist to enjoy the good stuff that's been around.

4.0 out of 5 stars Melodic harmony from master Kenny G, Nov 16 2003

When searching for an album with the perfect blend of instrumental classics and hip, on the edge musicianship, you'll never go wrong with the saxophone sultan himself, Kenny G...
Breathless is a great attempt at trying cutting edge music formulas basically by himself. Kenny outdoes himself in such tunes as "Homeland" and "By the Time this Night is Over". Kenny's instrumentals of "Sentimental" and "The Joy of Life" will flat out knock your socks off. His musical wizardry and brute talent shows itself throughout Breathless. You'll love Kenny on his masterous sax as he can easily either bring down the house with his incredible volume or rock a baby to sleep with his mellow tones of saxophone harmony. You can't go wrong with Breathless by Kenny G.

4.0 out of 5 stars His last good album, July 14 2003

Russell Nielsen (Aurora, Colorado United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Breathless (Audio CD)
I recently bought this album for [$$$] last week and was pretty anxious to listen to it. I was surprised to hear songs such as "forever in love" and "by the time this night is over" which are songs played on lite rock and smooth jazz stations. His sax playing just blew me away and almost made me fall asleep. I love his backround keyboard music it sounds so much better than his recent albums. I heard other songs such as "the joy of life" "sentimental" and "G-bop" which are only played on smooth jazz radio stations and they sounded wonderful. Why couldn't he keep this same style? His albums. "the moment" and his most recent album "Paradise" simply lost their touches. His album "The moment" has hardly any keyboards and sounds almost like an alternative/90's soft rock record, and his Paradise album sounds like music that can be recorded in a lounge. Sad to say that after this album I too had to step off the Kenny G elevator

4.0 out of 5 stars Great romantic CD, May 10 2003
This review is from: Breathless (Audio CD)
This is the kind of CD you would play while relaxing in a candlelit bath, or while having a romantic dinner. The best songs on this CD are Sentimental, The Wedding Song, and End of the Night, but the most romantic ones are Alone and Sister Rose. The only disappointment is a shortage of upbeat songs; the only one on this CD is G-Bop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Weather Channel Music, Dec 6 2002
By
This review is from: Breathless (Audio CD)
That's right, if you think back REALLY hard to about the year this album was released (1992), The Weather Channel used "The Joy of Life", "Forever in Love", and "A Year Ago" as background music for their Local Forecast. I remember when my mom got the CD from BMG and was blaring it when I came home, and I asked her in light confusion "Why do you have the Weather Channel up all the way?" "It's not. It's the Kenny G CD."

I was hooked then. Whenever I just needed to sit and think, or let loose a good cry, this album did the trick. I highly recommend this particular album, because frankly, it's one of Kenny's "bright spots". Breathless and his Christmas Albums are his only ones so far, though. ;)

4.0 out of 5 stars nice water pipe, kenny, Nov 22 2002
This review is from: Breathless (Audio CD)
Ever notice in the soap operas when the couples want to "get it on" they play Kenny G ? Exactly how many soap opera babies is his tooting responsible for producing? The mind boggles. also, does he still have his poodle hair cut? Don't you think his friends ought to get together and stage an intervention? Is he an angry man? Four words of advice forMr. G: Collaborate with Lil Kim. The crossover potential is astounding. Who ate all my Coco Krispies? I'll get back to this later, dawg

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Music!, Jun 19 2002

It is completely incomprehensible to me that this album would only have a 3 star average rating! I don't even agree that it is the "jazz purists" who are panning it. This is excellent music, very smooth and relaxing and in the signature Kenny G style that has made him so incredibly popular. If you like good music and are not locked into a very narrow interpretation of what is good and what is not, I would strongly recommend this album.
