You are not going to find many bands like Dead Milkmen,

This CD is hilarious. The classic song is obviously 'Punk Rock Girl' but there are so many other songs on this release that are just as good like 'Smoking Bananna Peels', 'Bleach Boys', 'The Guitar Song'. The bands sngwriting often gets me wondering 'how do they think up this stuff?' As far as the musicianship, I can not think of any other band that has a similar sound to the Dead Milkmen, which is always good. The best way to describe their sound would be punk tuned down a notch. To me, this is their best release. If you are in a down mood, put this one on-it will get you to smile.

Polka rocks!,

Who else but the Dead Milkmen would have meshed punk with polka? To me, this is an interesting innovation. Not all of the songs reek of polka; but the one's that do, you will be wondering why no one had done it before. It's a perfect marriage. I myself: I just like the sound. It's anarchic, yet subtle at times. And the hilljack overtones are just hilarious. Regards.

Essential Milkmen,
By High Y (Charleston, SC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Beelzebubba (Audio CD)
If you had to pick just one essential Milkmen album from their prestigious catalogue, a lot of people would have to go with this one. With an impressive 17 songs, this album gives a taste of all that the Milkmen did best. From Rodney Anonymous' brilliant story-telling on "Stuart," to Joe Jack Talcum's pop-punk sensibilities on "Punk Rock Girl" and "The Guitar Song," to their unique mix of these elements on "I Walk The Thinnest Line" and "Bleach Boys," you really get it all. Virtually every track is a Milkmen classic, which is saying something. If you want a solid intro to this band, get this one; if you already like the Milkmen but somehow don't have this, have your head checked. This album is the definitive road to a magical world where ministers murder golf pros and Ringo finally buys a rifle, and it is not to be missed!

Beyond Cool.,

This has got to be one of my favorite albums of all time. All the songs are flat out amazing. Even the titles that sound lame will make your jaw drop the first time you hear them. I still laugh out loud when I hear this album. I think the Milkmen should get back together for a 'reunion tour' like kiss or black sabbath.

One of the Dead Milkmen's best albums,

This is a great album! From start to finish, there's not a dud in the bunch - not a comment you can make about many albums. There is a lot of societal, satirical bite here as well.. Thomas Swift would be proud of the punditry going on here. In addition, they have some moments that make you think - my favorite track on the album, Life is ****, has a line: "Life takes from us the things we love, and it robs us of the special ones, and it puts them high where we can't climb, and we only miss them, all of the time..." Pretty neat stuff coming from a band that sings about vomit, wife-beating, and maggot farms - puts it into perspective. Give it a try.

"Stuart" is the best of the songs on here, with many quotable lines. And that really is Rodney's dad on the cover.

Dead Milkmen show a great performance of preaching punk rock ideas while making every listener laugh! They leave you with a smile on your face and conceptions of their beliefs and ideals. This is a fantastic CD, worth every moment of listening to!!

I have listened to this album literally hundreds of times, start to finish, and it still seems fresh to me. The Milkmen make brilliant and subtle critiques of our society through their hillarious satire, and nestle it within memorable, catchy tunes. To say that the Dead Milkmen are simply "funny" is like saying the same thing of Voltaire -- it misses the point entirely. This album is one of their best, and after almost a decade of listening to it, I still love it.
