The Bear and Larry,
By "rocker00" (London Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Collection (Audio CD)
Edward Bear and Larry Evoy.Larry was The Bear and the Bear was Larry.I remember seeing them at a now defunct local watering hole named 'The Barn' in my hometown in the early 70's,just when the string of hits were coming into their own. This is still another example of some terrific Cancon (Canadian Content) music. The one regret that I have was in not asking Larry Evoy, the groups drummer and lead singer was if a number of the songs were interconnected.Pop the CD in your player and if you play 'You,Me & Mexico,Masquerade,Last Song,Close Your Eyes and Same Old Feeling ' in order they definately tell a story.Five wonderful ballads from a more innocent time.Naive? Maybe a little but well worth the nostalgia value.'Freedom For the Stallion' was another great ballad and it was to be held in the same high esteem as the more well known Three Dog Night version.Larry Evoy also had modest solo success with the single 'Here I go Again'.Canadian groups Gary and Dave and Major Hooples Boarding House also had similiar styles. If you like The Bear, you'll like these too.Now if our friends at AMAZON will only put the above Edward Bear tunes into real player...in that order of course!

Not a bad collection,
This review is from: Collection (Audio CD)
I got my copy of the Edward Bear collection at a local music store for 10.99, and I was satisfied with my purchase. The CD includes such well-known songs as "Last Song" and "You Me and Mexico," as well as 13 other Edward Bear Hits. Most of the songs are essential, but there are a few songs that could be replaced. The sound quality is excellent, seeing how all of the songs are remastered. It is one of three Edward Bear albums available on CD. It is jam packed with liner notes that describe each of the 15 songs with a brief write-up of the band and a few pictures. The cover design is simple and professional, making it stand out. I would recommend the Edward Bear Collection to anyone who is familiar with the band, or enjoys good Canadian classic rock like The Guess Who and The Stampeders. I rate it 4/5, just because a few of the tracks could have been replaced with better songs. All in all, it is best purchased with Edward Bear's self titled album.

Get it while you can,

Since there is no domestic in-print CD of Edward Bear available, this is about your only choice for this material. While "Last Song" is readily available on compilation CDs, if you're looking for either of their other two U.S.-charted singles or album cuts, this is all that's out there at this time. Done by Capitol of Canada, the sound quality is decent and all tracks in true stereo except one (On and On). A bit strange considering this is from 1975. If you're looking for Edward Bear on CD this is the all there is but do it quickly since this CD is from 1991 and there's no telling how much longer it will be available.

Nice find,

I'm really glad I found this CD. Listening to "Last Song" and "Close Your Eyes" instantly transported me back to the early 70s. Back to a time when The Beatles had all just started their solo careers. Back to the days of Jim Croce, Elton John, Three Dog Night and Don McLean. And back to a time before disco came along and spoiled everything.Edward Bear was one of those groups that always had me wondering "Whatever became of...?" This CD answers that question, plays you some old favorite songs and introduces you to a few new songs you never knew the group did. A very nice find indeed.
