5.0 out of 5 stars des musiciens pas comme tant d'autres, Aug 17 2009

This review is from: Harmonium (Audio CD)

5.0 out of 5 stars Better with Time, Jan 9 2012
This review is from: Harmonium (Audio CD)
I loved this as a teenager, but had never owned it then. I didn't ever realize all these songs were from one album. Some of the songs bring tears to the eyes. Some of the best music of the 1970s (or any decade). Pour Un Instant is one of my favourite songs of any genre and any ages. Breathtaking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why is the cover sideways?, Sep 28 2011
This review is from: Harmonium (Audio CD)
I didn't know about Harmonium until around 2000-2001, and was a bit suspicious about this band that was so popular with girls in Cégep (college in Quebec). Well, it turns out the girls were right.

Harmonium is, in my opinion, one of the greatest bands to come out of Quebec. This record, their first, is was a wonderful testament to the artists' talent. Songwriting at its very finest, Harmonium is an auditive pleasure that just about anyone can enjoy.

Prog-Rock fans beware! Calling Harmonium a progressive rock band is somewhat of a misnomer. Sure, there are progressive elements in the music, but the "rock" label is a bit far fetched. Most tracks (if not all on this record) don't have drums, I beleive (possibly mistankenly) that there are no electric instruments other than bass on this album. It's a far stretch from bands like Genesis or Yes. I would call the music "progressive folk", if such a category were necessary.

All in all, this great record with great songs makes my favorite Quebec recording ever.
