5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Greatest Hip-Hop Albums
I'm not the one to spend more than $25 on one vinyl, but I made an exception for this albums, by Lauryn Hill.

3.0 out of 5 stars Overly Hyped Debut Album
I bought this CD expecting a knock-out punch from THE performer at the time. The only stellar moment on this CD is "Zion," which is amazing.
Other than that, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, which was all the rage at the time, seems to me - in retrospect - to be nothing but a mediocre hip-hop album I eventually sold for half the price to a used CD store. A couple of...

5.0 out of 5 stars Some songs are monotomous, but otherwise excellent!, April 8 2002

Lauryn Hill is an excellent singer and rapper, as most people can see by hearing her songs or watching her in the movie Sister Act 2. This album can really prove her ability to influence her listeners. I'm not much of a fan of songs that are all rap, because I feel bored by the second verse begins and I don't feel it shows true singing ability.

TRACKS and RATINGS:
1) Intro. This one's the intro, and it's one of the things where the teacher does attendance and goes, "____________(name)?" No answer. It's just an intro, so no rating.

2) Lost Ones. This is one of the mostly rap songs. I don't like it at all, and the only times Lauryn shows off her great voice is a few, all times in the backround and nearly inaudible. R: 3/5

3) Ex-Factor. I like this song a lot. It's a really beautiful song (instrumental, melody, harmony), and Lauryn expresses great singing ability. R: 5/5

4) To Zion. The rhythm is excellent, and it reminds me of a band song called March Zuma. It's a great song, and its only problem is the ending. It's just a bit weird. R: 5/5

5) Doo Wop (That Thing). This is another song I really like. There's only a bit of rap, great melody, a nice song to listen to. Excellent rhythm. I like the chorus. R: 5/5

6) Superstar. This song's okay, not the best. The chorus gets a bit annoying after a while, but its a good song. R: 4/5

7) Final Hour. This is another all-rap song. It's like some sort of freaky chant, repeating thes words. At the very end, the song tries to save itself, but its too late. Listeners have already changed the track in hope for something better. R: 3/5

8) When It Hurts So Bad. Very good, except for the beginning. Otherwise, its up there with all the 5 star songs. R: 5/5

9) I Used To Love Him. Again, the beginning's weird. Its even weirder! I don't like the beginning, but the rest of the song picks up later. Pretty good. R: 4/5

10) Forgive Them Father. Some listeners might think my opinions odd, but I kinda liked this song. Nice rhthym, great melody. Nice Lauryn sounds. Overall, nice to listen to. R: 5/5

11) Every Ghetto, Every City. I like this song a lot. Its really something you can nod your head to. There's a street feeling, like the singers are just chilling on the sidewalk. R: 5/5

12) Nothing Even Matters. Eh. I've seen better songs with more diversity in melody. It's just the repeating of the same tune, so I have to knock off a point for blandness. R: 4/5

13) Everything is Everything. Like Every Ghetto, Every City, there's a street beat, and its a good song. R: 5/5

14) The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. The song that's the CD's namesake is a slow one, but still a nice song. There's a feeling like sadness, but still good song. R: 5/5

There are two hidden tracks, but I'm tired. Anyway, overall, this is a great CD. Those Grammy chooser people chose right. Lauryn Hill deserves the honors, and you should definitely buy this CD. Later!

5.0 out of 5 stars GOOD BETTER BEST ! !, July 10 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Miseducation Of (Audio CD)
Lauryn is one of the most versatile people in the business. She's amazing in all the categories. She's a songwriter, producer, rapper, poet. I mean this lady truly is wonderful. She always carries a message with her unique rock hard flows and rhymes she gives like no one else. This album is for any fan of music, not only rap, or Rnb. But anyone who wants something good to hear. She talks about the truth of the world and criticizes evil. Go and get it and sleep on it till the entire album sinks in your pulse.

Lauryns CD is pretty calming. She sings with passion her voice is beautiful. I believe this is best described as the perfect album to make love to. Mostly powerful songs about God and love once in a while she throws it down and raps a verse . what can I say shes amazing. A great CD to have in your collection, the track list is good, consistently throughout.

The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill~ Lauryn Hill, is a mixed bag so to say. Some songs are great whilst others are ho hum. Her rapping is alright (not like at all like Eminem) but her lyrics are bit over the top and prententious. Still and all it is a good album.

"The Miseducation..." is one of the best albums of the 90's in my opinion. This album is very spiritual, Lauryn has an amazing alto voice and the production and lyrics are top notch. This is every R&B lover's MUST HAVE.
