5.0 out of 5 stars Just What I Wanted
A long time ago, when I was actively involved in actually working-out, I purchased this CD; I made the right choice. This CD is great for all of the Rocky fans out there. It contains the songs that remind us of the struggles the boxer went through, and it also can inspire the listener to push themselves a little harder each day - in whatever aspect of life they need to...

3.0 out of 5 stars Rocky Story Review
I reviewed this same CD a little over a year ago and a thought it was the best Rocky CD ever, boy was I wrong. I mean I don't regret buying it but if you buy the Rocky IV CD you don't need to worry about getting this one, the only difference is that they put a "new" version of Gonna Fly Now on the CD, big deal. I have the first Rocky CD and Rocky IV, I am...

The Rocky movies are one of the most memorable film series in American movie history, Sylvester Stallone had this character and story that audiences could relate to. And when it comes to movie soundtracks it's hard not to mention the Rocky series and some of the fantastic music it has had over the years. But as the series changed direction in the 1980's, so did the music, not that it's a problem because I love the music from the first four movies in the series. While the first two Rocky movies had more instrumental and orchestral music, in the 1980's the music featured in the movies moved to a more rock and pop sound as the soundtracks for III and IV suggested. To me the Rocky series has some truly memorable music and it is only normal that one would want to buy a CD collection featuring the best of the soundtracks; only this is not what you're looking for.

The main problem with 'The Rocky Story: The Original Soundtrack From The Rocky Movies' is that 6 out of the 9 songs here are taken from the Rocky IV (1985) soundtrack. Granted, I love Rocky IV and its soundtrack provided some of the best moments for me but I think there should be more than 3 songs representing the 4 other Rocky movies that were released at this point. This collection should be therefore be considered inaccurate when it comes to representing the Rocky movies. I don't really mind that there is nothing from Rocky V here because to be honest that soundtrack wasn't quite as memorable as the others were, Rocky and rap music don't mix very well in my opinion. Also, ignoring all that Bill Conti did was not a smart move...

When it all comes down to it, 'The Rocky Story' is not your best bet when it comes to a Rocky CD collection, instead I would recommend 'Rocky Balboa: The Best of Rocky' released in 2006, it doesn't have everything a fan might hope for but with 17 songs it does far better than this. 9 songs by the way, is not nearly enough to truly represent the best music from the Rocky movies. I would only recommend this to someone who really liked the music from Rocky IV and likes the other songs here. Sadly this doesn't deserve much more than a two, it's a pathetic attempt at being a 'best-of' Rocky. 2 stars

I think all of the songs are recorded quite well, and I don't think any Rocky (and music) fan should be without this CD. If you buy it and don't like it, you can yell at me... www.therunninggirl.com

That's where I'll be.

4.0 out of 5 stars My Ring's Outside, Jun 1 2004

This review is from: The Rocky Story: the Original Soundtrack Songs From the Rocky Movies (Soundtrack Anthology) (Audio CD)
I wouldn't exactly call this a complete compilation of all the best music from each Rocky movie, because it's almost completely from Rocky IV. For the most part the songs are good (I could do without "Living In America"), but it does make a good CD to work out to and is very motivating. In my opinion it's way too short, so I took the liberty of making my own mix which I feel much more satisfied with:

1.) Bill Conti - Fanfare For Rocky (I)
2.) Bill Conti - Going the Distance (I)
3.) Vince DiCola - Training Montage (IV)
4.) Survivor - Eye Of the Tiger (III)
5.) John Cafferty - Hearts On Fire (IV)
6.) Joey B. Ellis & Tynetta Hare - Go For It! (Heart and Fire)(V)
7.) Europe - The Final Countdown (IV)
8.) Bill Conti - Reflections (III)
9.) Bill Conti - Mickey (III)
10.) Robert Tepper - No Easy Way Out (IV)
11.) Bill Conti - Decision (III)
12.) The 7A3 - Take You Back (Home Sweet Home) (V)
13.) Survivor - Burning Heart (IV)
14.) Bill Conti - Redemption (II)
15.) DeEtta Little - Gonna Fly Now (I)
16.) Vince DiCola - War (IV)
17.) Snap - Keep It Up (V)
18.) Bill Conti - Conquest (II)
19.) Touch - The Sweetest Victory (IV)
20.) Bill Conti - Overture (II)
21.) Bill Conti - The Final Bell (I)
22.) Elton John - The Measure Of a Man (V)

Starts off strong, slows down and gets depressing, picks up the pace again stronger, then ends the same way the series did.

This CD has gotten my wrestling team through some tough workouts. I can actually see wrestlers getting more intence, focused and determined when "no easy way out" comes on. The whole CD is great and you should check out "Vision Quest" too.

I am only 14 but I have loved Rocky forever. My dog is named Rocky too. So I have made a Rocky Work-Out CD that has in my opinion the best songs of the Rocky Movies. 1.Ivan Drago(before Apollo Creed Fight(IV)) 2. The Final Countdown (IV) 3. The Final Bell (I) 4. Going the Distance (I) 5. Go For It (V) 6. War (IV) 7. Training Montage (IV) 8. Burning Heart (IV) 9. Hearts on Fire (IV) 10. No Easy Way Out (IV) 11. Gonna Fly Now (I) 12. Eye of the Tiger (III) 13. Gonna Fly Now Remix 14. The Sweetest Victory (IV).
As you can see Rocky IV is my favorite and the music from it is the best. It pumps you up and sooths the soul at the same time. Rocky III is good too. Rocky V [stinks]. Though they are making a Rocky VI for June 2004. If you dont have Kazaa or a CD burner I would recomend this Cd. IF you do then make a better one. And make it longer.

I love to listen to this entire album during my workout routine! All the best from each Rocky movie is on this album, and it's one of the few albums where I like each and every song.

The music is clear and the soundtracks are awesome!

5.0 out of 5 stars Only Rocky Soundtrack released in india!!!, Aug 8 2002
By
SHAKTI (New Delhi , INDIA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Rocky Story: the Original Soundtrack Songs From the Rocky Movies (Soundtrack Anthology) (Audio CD)
i learnt about the great music of Rocky movies in 1995 through Rocky Story long before actually watching a single movie of the series.( i watched entire rocky series in 2001!!!)I buyed the cassette in 1995 and had to wait 7 years to find this on CD. This compilation is excellent and i would rate this as one of the best ever compilation. The first reason i buyed this cd was that its the only cd of rocky music available in India. The soundtracks of any of the Rocky movies hasnt been released in India yet!!!... feel had they added 3 more numbers to this cd it would have been greatest compilation ever. these 3 tracks are 1. redemption (rocky 2) 2.Measure of a man (rocky 5) 3. Go for it (rocky5)
7 out of the 9 tracks are from Rocky 4 and 2 from rocky 1.
' Eye of the tiger ' ' hearts on Fire ' ' Gonna fly now ' ' training montage ' ' war ' are the greatest energy busters during work outs . u wont need any supplement if u listen to these tracks! 'Burning Heart ' is a pure emotional track along with ' NO easy way out ' and ' Gonna fly now instrumental '. These tracks are great stress reliver and no matter in how much stress u are u are going to love them. ' living in America ' is the only song for lighter moments. Trust me all the song on this cd will touch your soul.
For all those who havent buyed Rocky soundtracks this is a good buy. i would recommend to buy this cd as it is worth all money spent.
A must buy for all diehard Rocky fans as well as for those who like the high quality music.

4.0 out of 5 stars THE ULTIMATE SMELLING SALTS, July 28 2002
By
Mr Haralabos Abelas (Sydney, NSW Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Rocky Story: the Original Soundtrack Songs From the Rocky Movies (Soundtrack Anthology) (Audio CD)
The latest Rocky Compilation CD is quite good. I dont think it is "great" because it is only a repeat of the ROCKY 4 CD with the original Rocky Gonna Fly now tune pathetically remixed on a plastic Synthesiser.
So, if you want a taste of ROCKY 1 - dont buy this CD. Buy ROCKY 4 and ROCKY 1 together.

The Rocky 4 CD beats the compilation CD because it has THE SWEETEST VICTORY on it, whereas the new compilation CD doesn't.

The Sweetest Victory is a must have for any Rocky Fan, as it caps off nicely all the other themes and emotions brought out in the other songs. Victory is just an important a theme as the first steps, the struggle, and overcoming the odds.

Again , I say - Dont buy this CD, but INSTEAD buy ROCKY I and ROCKY IV together.
ROCKY 1 is an awsome CD - there are some classical pieces along with the original theme songs that will blow you away - ROCKY 1 is just as good a CD as ROCKY 4. Of course, ROCKY 4 is probably the best - as it presents the legendary series that has inspired the world - Burning HEart, Hearts on Fire, War, Training Montage, Eye of the Tiger and Sweetest Victory.

I first heard these when I was 13 years old, and taped them off a friend. It took me 12 years and I finally found them here on CD at AMAZON. At last !!

The ROCKY 1 and ROCKY 4 soundtracks will PURGE you of every limiting factor in your life - in every area. Relationships, money, career, business . You name it.
I know a widow in her sixties, and even it has helped her overcome many great odds in life - having to deal with the loss of her husband - leaving her with 4 young children in her early years as a mother. Amazing.

These CD's are of a potent kind of smelling salts unlike any others you can find - even in the remotest part of Asia.

Do yourself a favour and make an investment that will leverage you into the most sought after asset of all. An asset which is priceless and give you all you desire in life. And that is an attitude, and determination to beat anything that is in front of you in pursuit of the impossible, tempered by a love of life and a humble appreciation for the infinite.

Buy ROCKY 1 and ROCKY 4 - together.
Get ready for an internal transformation that will sooner or later externalise in your affairs as fulfillment, inspiration, and happiness through achievement of the most sacred desires and wishes of your heart.

Like a great book, you will never tire of this music, and stop learning from it for within it are tunes that inflame emotions causative of the formation of the keys inside you to fulfilment and eternal glory.
