5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious compilation of dinner table (or not) songs
"Weird Al" Yankovic's THE FOOD ALBUM isn't so much a new album as just a compilation of earlier songs relating to food. It's hilarious, gross, outrageous - true Al.

The album opens with "Fat" (an outrageous spoof of Michael Jackson's "Bad), then goes on to "Lasagna" (spoof of "La Bamba") - which is pretty funny, as Al sings...

3.0 out of 5 stars Funny, but needs SKILL!!!
There are some music artists out there who know what they're doing, and there are some who don't. Al is right in between them.

"Weird Al" Yankovic's THE FOOD ALBUM isn't so much a new album as just a compilation of earlier songs relating to food. It's hilarious, gross, outrageous - true Al.

The album opens with "Fat" (an outrageous spoof of Michael Jackson's "Bad), then goes on to "Lasagna" (spoof of "La Bamba") - which is pretty funny, as Al sings about the value of Italian food. There's also "The White Stuff" detailing the joy of cookie filling, "The Rye or the Kaiser (Theme from Rocky XIII)" telling what happened after the last one, and tons of other hilarious songs. Of course, there's also "Eat It" (another Jackson spoof - "Beat It"), which is very funny as well.

What can I say? "Weird Al" is a comedic genius and never fails to make me laugh. "The Food Album" is perfect for beginning Al fans, but die-hard fans will no doubt already have most of the songs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent al-bum & compilation, May 11 2003
By
This review is from: The Food Album (Audio CD)
Weird Al decided to make 2 "cheesy compilations," about his two major subjects: TV and food. The next one should be about tormented love like One More Minute or You Don't Love Me Anymore. The food one is very funny, although I had heard all of them already.
1. Fat 10/10 Hilarious parody of Michael Jackson's "Bad." From "Even Worse."
2. Lasagna 4/10 Not his best, but it has it's moments. Parody of "La Bamba." From "Even Worse."
3. Addicted to Spuds 8/10 Funny parody of "Addicted to Love." From "Polka Party."
4. I Love Rocky Road 9/10 Parody of "I Love Rocky Road." From his self-titled debut al-bum.
5. Spam 6/10 Funny parody of "Stand." From the UHF al-bum.
6. Eat It 8/10 The parody of "Beat It" that made him famous. From "In 3-D."
7. The White Stuff 8/10 Parody of "The Right Stuff." From "Off the Deep End."
8. My Bologna 10/10 HILARIOUS parody of "My Sharona." From his self-titled debut al-bum.
9. Taco Grande 9/10 Excruciatingly funny parody of "Rico Suave." From "Off the Deep End."
10. Theme from Rocky XIII (The Rye or the Kaiser) 10/10 Perfect parody of "Eye of the Tiger." From "In 3-D."

The only thing missing is "Grapefruit diet," yet it's from a later al-bum, "Running With Scissors."

I can't wait for "Poodle Hat," in stores May 20th. Thank you for taking the time to read my review and feel free to leave me a helpful/not helpful feedback. God Bless America!

This review is from: The Food Album (Audio CD)
This is the best album. I like it because it has some of the best parities. I like the song fat parity of Michael Jaxon's Bad. I also like the song of Rie Or The Kizer parity of Eye Of The Tiger, and I Love Rockey Road. This is a good album to listen to when you want something to do. I highly recommend this

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but, April 3 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Food Album (Audio CD)
When Scottibros. was struggling for money, they turned to Weird al and demanded a new album. He didn't have time, so they made this wrather cheesy compilation which they claim is "re-mixed" (although it's not). Weird Al himself has said that he didn't like this album. But, I think the idea of the album is good, butit's missing something. This was done before "Alapalooza" was finished and before "Bad Hair Day" was. The only problem is it's too short, less than 40 mins. "Weird Al," before only had one missinf food song when the album was released, "Girls Just Want To Have Lunch." They should re-release this album, adding songs like "Livin' In The Fridge," and "Waffle King," from Alapalooza, none from Bad Hair Day, and "Grapefruit Diet," from Running With Scissors. I know that they wouldn't do that, but that would make a nice-length, complete CD with all of his food songs. I know it wouldn't happen, but wouldn't it be cool?

2.0 out of 5 stars Tell Me: Did We Really Need This???, Mar 2 2002
By
Bob Smith (Cleveland, OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Food Album (Audio CD)
The Food Album sounds like it'd be a great revue of Al's best songs revolving around his favorite subject: food. But instead, this is a goofy complication of unliked songs smashed together into one, with nothing going for it. Some of his songs are good from this CD, but only the originals were the good ones, as this revises the songs almost like remixes..and it doesn't work out well. Only the biggest die-hard Weird Al fans will enjoy this messy CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT!, Feb 13 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Food Album (Audio CD)
I would have to say that if I wrote a top five W.A.Y. list this
cd come in at about #4. It is a good compilation of his food songs which are some of his best songs. After hearing My Bologna
and The White Stuff, My Sharona and The Right Stuff really stink. The songs that get me laughing the most are: Spam, The White Stuff and Taco Grande. But they are all good. If you don't
already have any Weird Al cd's make this the first and if you
have Weird Al cd's but not this one then be sure to buy a copy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed Feelings, Dec 28 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Food Album (Audio CD)
This CD has caught me with mixed feelings. I'll point out the good points first.

Weird Al is at his best, making parody's of early 80's-90's pop music (with a numerous parodies of oldies while he's at it). "The Rye or The Kaiser" is a masterpiece parody of the rocky classic theme, "The Eye Of The Tiger" and does a great job of spoofing many lines. "Fat" too is also a good one, as stupid (it's a compliment in this instance) as it is. "My Bologna" is a hilarious cut spoofing (you guessed it) "My Sharona". And of course, there's the classic Weird Al song, "Eat It" ("Beat It" spoof).

The problem with this is that many X-ers will fail to get the full benefit of the album. That's what makes Weird Al funny. He spoofs songs that are popular. Generally speaking, the humor is found in comparing it to the orginal song. Sure, some X-ers will get "The Rye Or The Kaiser" (since most red-blooded americans have seen Rocky), but what about songs such as "Bad", the icon of "Fat"? I doubt it. Let's not even talk about "My Sharona". You see, a 12-16 year old kid can't get the full benefit. If you haven't heard the originals, it's just a CD with an accordian-obssesed man singing stupid songs (stupid is bad in this case). To X-ers, I would advise that they shimmy on over to their Music shops and pick up "Bad Hair Day" and "Running With Scissors" (both of which spoof more modern songs like "Gangstas' Paradise" and "3 Weeks".) Also, it seems some quality was sacrificed. The CD I have plays poorly on my Discman, and I'm fairly certain it's not my discman that's got the problem (Come on! It's a Sony!), so I listen to mine on my Laptop ( <G> HP Pavillion hx 535 with 256 MB Ram, 950 MHZ Athlon and DVD drive >:) )
