In Richard Harris, Jimmy Webb's songs found their ideal interpreter. Harris's voice was not great, but wielded by his prodigious acting talent it conveys nuances of Webb's intricate lyrics that other singers usually missed. 3.0 out of 5 stars MacArthur Park CD
Contrary to Daniel Thomas' review, the CD I bought does not have the song My Boy (#14 or otherwise), which is really annoying since I bought the CD after reading his review stating that the song was included!

In Richard Harris, Jimmy Webb's songs found their ideal interpreter. Harris's voice was not great, but wielded by his prodigious acting talent it conveys nuances of Webb's intricate lyrics that other singers usually missed. Of course, the title song is the most famous, but listen to "The Yard Went On Forever." It's at once a remembrance of childhood, a lament for lost innocence, an idealization of mother love and a cry against the tyranny of war. This song was also, many years ago, one of the earliest to have an accompanying film produced. Harris stands in a long overcoat whipped by the wind while the camera whirls upward and the children's chorus intones "Dona Nobis Pacem," Give us Peace.

The CD contains all the songs from both of Harris's albums of Jimmy Webb's songs, all performed with the same attention to dramatic detail as "Yard" and "MacArthur Park." Whether a used copy or new, if you care about the art of song interpretation, you can't afford not to own this CD.

What a great recording, I have always been a Richard Harris fan, he was great in UNFORGIVING with Clint Eastwood and of course MORGAN FREEMAN... He is the best, remember him from Driving Miss Daisy.. Good CD.

To each his own at least it proves he trys different styles ( I hate Rap/Hip-Hop)Because 3 months later no-one remembers it.I suggest he listens to the recital (Tale/Story) of his recording of "Jonathon LIvingston Seagull". It is one fantastic performance,I bought the record in 1970, transferred it to tape so that I can listen to it forever. (and I will) This man could out orate Richard Burton and the rest any day It really was a sad day when we lost him.

This album is absolutely addictive. I never tire of it. Richard Harris was a great actor and this album displays his acting talent in the form of music. I bought this one for MacArthur Park, and discovered so many wonderful surprises. Every piece is a gem. If you don't have it, buy it!

Richard Harris was a phenomenal talent. I saw him live in the early 70's in Boston and it was an amazing evening. This CD has most of his best and is very well worth the price. It's a shame that not many who knew him as an actor were aware of his music and an added shame that all his work is not available on CD.

I bought this CD for one song and I was left even more impressed by the unique talants of Richard Harris.

The title track "MacArthur Park" is simply amazing and I would recommend this CD just for that one song!!!

A dazaling combination of theatrical rock and orchestral power that is way ahead of its time and music that Jim Steinman would have been proud of!!!

"Someone left the cake out in the rain", listen and see if you can take it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars All this and acting too?, Nov 3 2002

I've always been familiar with Richard Harris' acting work, and over the last few years, his charming and humorous visits on "Late Night with David Letterman" and yet I never put the name with the recording artist until his recent passing.I can't believe now that I didn't recognize the beautiful, theatrical vocalizing which somehow makes his voice sound better than it probably is.His stylings are acting at its best, and I find it hard to believe that anyone is selling used copies. (I purchased mine new). It's been a long time since I purchased an album and liked every single track, but his is the one!

Richard Harris was, first of all, an actor. His rich vocals were an artistic extension of his fine acting. Great sound
