5.0 out of 5 stars How did I not have this until 2004?
I loved the songs when I heard them on the radio, yet I didn't have this CD until 5 years after it's release!! I feel like a complete jackass because it is REALLY good. If you've been mulling it over for a few years, today is the day. It's SOOOO worth it to buy. It's one of my top 5 favorite CDs ever.

It really grows on you FAST.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bland pop-rock
When I heard "Little Black Back Pack" and "Letters", I was hooked. Those happen to be some of the better songs on here. This is kind of bland, so I can't keep myself liking it as much as I could. It kind of reminds me of Better Than Ezra (not that that's a bad thing). There is a lot of filler here, and that's evident.

However, that doesn't mean it...

They disappeard off the face of the earth after this raucous CD and you just wiped your ass to say what???? Wanna get away from mainstream hype, then this CD is the way to do it. After repeated listens, you beg, more???? Little Black Backpack. Sounds funny? A top 10 hit on Billboard's modern rock chart. A no-brainer for a follow-up, then bam }:-( Worth checkin out.

This cd kicksass from the first track to the last. This is one of my favorite cds to blast in my car during the summer months. This album has everything from good old alternative rock to your sad love songs. I still listen to this cd 5 years after buying it.

letters, little black backpack, and washin and wonderin are three of the best pure pop rock songs i've heard in a while, honestly. if the rest of the cd was up to that quality, it'd probably be one of the best and easily the catchiest cd's i own. unfortunately, it's not and the other 9 songs range from merely OK to simply terrible and when only 1/4 of a cd is any good, my friends, that's why the good Lord created Ebay and Kazaa. i'm not gonna spend my time knocking this cd trying to sound all self-important and pretentious and all that, in my mind, simply put, 3 of the songs on stroke 9's cd nasty little thoughts are really really good and the other 9 pretty much suck. they had all the potential in the world to write an album of great pop songs, but they burned out after 3 and released the album with a LOT of filler. and now they're a punk band, so yeah. disappointed, but it won't be in my cd collection for much longer. that's all from me.

Washin' and Wonderin' is a great song. The whole album is good--a little different than all the other stuff around, but not groundbreaking. The tunes stick in my head, clever lyrics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Band, April 13 2003

I believe this is there debut album and I bought it after listening to "Letters" on the radio a few years back. I have to say they have a soothing melody and some lyrics that really mean something. If you looking for some good music without the rash melodies this is definately for you.

Enjoy!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Cool Album, Nov 4 2002
This review is from: Nasty Little Thoughts (Audio CD)
I first heard of STROKE 9 after seeing their video on the Jay and Silent Bob DVD, and I like the song and video and bought their latest CD RIP THIS OFF, after seeing them do an in-store performence at Tower Records in San Francisco. My girlfriend really likes this band and she was the one who got me into listening to them. The songs have some cool melodies and this album NASTY LITTLE THOUGTHS is real easy to listen to. I like their music and find their songs catchy and always something I can listen to anytime. The songs that I like off this album are:
LETTERS, CITY LIFE, LITTLE BLACK BACKPACK, WASHIN + WONDERIN', ARE YOU IN THIS?, NOT NOTHIN', DOWN, ANGELS, and TEAR ME IN TWO. They dont sound as polished here as they do on their followup, but that doesnt take away from their songs and the quality of this disc. They are a good band that makes good songs and they seem to have a loyal fan base. I think that rock fans will enjoy this album

5.0 out of 5 stars "...and I wanna shout at the top of my lungs now...", Oct 15 2002
This review is from: Nasty Little Thoughts (Audio CD)
I want to "shout at the top of my lungs" and tell everyone how excellent this CD is and to go out and buy it right now! Stroke 9 is truly an amazing band. These guys are so talented and they have such a captivating stage presence. I've seen them live twice and cannot wait until I can see them again. You can tell that Luke, John, Eric, and Greg really love what they're doing and that they are close friends. Lead singer and guitarist, Luke Esterkyn has a beautiful voice and sings with such passion filled intensity that you wonder if he ever had a happy relationship. He's not half bad on the guitar either. John McDermott, on background vocals and guitar is clearly a guy whose been playing guitar for a while and he totally rocks. Bassist, Greg Gueldner also rocks and he really shines on this album. And of course, what band is complete without an awesome drummer. Eric Stock can really play those drums. I could just sit and watch him play for hours. (He gave me his drumstick at the last show I was at :-) There's no need to skip any track on this album. I love the line in 'Letters', ..."sooner or later all the songs that make you shake will be by me." I really do not have any favorites because every song on this album is great. Stroke 9 is a breath of fresh air compared with some acts that are currently out there. I highly reccomend this album. Go out and buy it. You'll be glad you did and while you're at it buy their new album, 'Rip it Off.' They are two of the best albums I own.
