Bautiful Stars distract from potentially Beautiful Film
on February 22, 2003
This film has an interesting premise, but then focuses mainly on the sexuality of the two young leads. When two children are the only survivors of a shipwreck, they are able to go on with life, living by their wits and the abundant resources on the island they call home. Natures beauty and the simplicity of life is stunning.
The sad truth about "The Blue Lagoon" is, that when these "kids" become mature teenagers, though completely "innocent", they act out sexually, even create a child. The parenthood in itself is still beautiful, however these plot elements are exploited.
Millions of people went to see this movie at theaters on the rumors that "Brooke & Chris have nude scenes!". The nudity is brief and not worth the ticket price. The idea for a beautiful film was there, but someone ruined the blue prints and the result was "Blue Lagoon". The target audience is clearly youngsters who legally couldn't even see this film at a theater.**
