This revolutionary ditigal techno rock artist can funk in a funny, strange way, fueled by the modern drum'n bass approach. These club organizers stepped into the rock field with a sharp knife edge that can make many people dace to their music. Also, these guys can ruthlessly whip our brain and our perception into the world unknown. This album is the crossroad between club music...

3.0 out of 5 stars Cool, but i have heard better.
I think it's a good cd, it sold well and Chemical Brothers had their international breakthrough, but too be honest i have heard alot of their "new wave" stuff before and i have heard alot better too, it's not that this was a brakthrough for techno music just becauase the album became a success. "Block Rockin beats" and "Setting sun" are the...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Techno CD!!!!!!!!!!!, Jun 14 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Dig Your Own Hole (Audio CD)
This is one of my favorite techno CDs of all time, along with mr.deviant's "Techno Obsession".
"Dig Your Own Hole" is the Chemical Brothers greatest work to date. I can listen to this one from start to finish. Forget the one reviewer that said "It Doesn't Matter" is no good, that happens to be the best track!!!!! Many of the songs feature the Chemical Brothers signature use of 1970's style drum sounds and bass sounds to perfection.
If you're looking to buy this CD, I'm guessing it's because you dig "Block Rockin' Beats", well, I've got news for you, that is the worst track on here. So, if you dig that one, then you'll be in heaven if you buy the CD!!!!!!
A must buy for any Techno fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars the right album, the right time, May 8 2004

Dig Your Own Hole is a bit of musical-cultural document that was released at the perfect time, when techno cast its largest net on the pop populace, in the wake of the dearth of "next big things". What Dig Your Own Hole has that other techno albums don't is a personality, even without the presence of people (or, singers). The two sung songs are the records undeniable greats - Beth Orton gives astonishing atmosphere to the still-iconic "Where do I Begin" and Noel Gallagher's vocals on "Setting Sun" elevate that song to the level of the best techno singles. Yet the space around them is full not only of personality, but of music that you can grasp onto - it's a pulsating accomplishment, but one that doesn't require much energy to fall in love with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff, the best Chem. Bros album., April 24 2004
This review is from: Dig Your Own Hole (Audio CD)
After I got Surrender and listened to it constantly, I thought nothing could top it. I was wrong. Dig Your Own Hole is a much more solid and listenable album than Surrender, and it doesn't have Sleep For Day on it (I hate that song). Anyway, the album has only 2 vocal collaborations, so it's more musical. There's some great innovation on this album, such as the vocal sample on It Doesn't Matter. There's some great beats and some unpredictability on this album too. Elektrobank comes to mind. You think it's going to be a constant fast groove, then it goes into a weird slow pound. Also, there's a little Pink Floyd in it too, in which most of the songs go into each other. My favorites are Block Rockin' Beats, the title track, Elektrobank, Piku, Setting Sun, Get Up On It Like This, Where Do I Begin, and The Private Psycahdelic Reel, a song that just has to be heard to be believed. Great album.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is something that keeps me going at all times, April 6 2004

The Chemical Brothers with their album Dig Your Own Hole, has to be one of the albums that keeps me going even when I'm down and music doesn't help. This album definately deserved the Grammy Award. Block Rockin' Beats is the best way to start off this whole CD with the bass starting it off and finally the song coming in. Dig Your Own Hole, the song, gets even better with it's constant beat to keep you moving. Elektro Bank...even better...every song keeps you moving except for after It Doesn't Matter. I really did not like they fit Don't Stop the Rock in there...nuh uh. I don't have anything else to say but OWN THIS ONE! IT'S WORTH IT!

Thanks.

4.0 out of 5 stars I just got it..., Sep 3 2003

I am beginning to understand why this is so good. I've had this CD for a while now and have listened to it many times in different settings and moods. While I know the tunes, I didn't quite get it. It's definitely got a style all its own but it seemed to lack the flow that Exit Planet Dust did. EPD blew my socks off. It's still fantastic.

Block Rockin' Beats will test the mettle of your bass, so too the next several minutes on the album. The bass is what makes the album so much fun. However, the album seemed to hover around making a point, never really transcending itself. It just seemed a bit choppy and too busy.

But just today I found these songs bouncing around in my head. And it really sounded good. The more I listen, the more I like. It's taken me a while but this album really is different and it really is good.

I am surprised that it is this album that is considered to be the one that brought these guys such recognition. I thought EPD did that. It sounds so clearn and so clean and precise. Perhaps that's the point -- beauty in chaos -- and thus the innovativeness of Dig Your Own Hole. It definitely surpasses the oversimplified grooves that is labeled 'techno' today.

I still don't get how it is labeled (or criticized) as more 'pop' and 'mainstream' than EPD but it seems that what is considered 'pop' is changing. What was radical years ago is tame today. Definitely a must have.

Chemical Brothers - Dig Your Own Hole Review

1 Block Rockin' Beats - One of the best songs on the album with its thumping beat. 10/10
2 Dig Your Own Hole - The album name and another one of the best. 10/10
3 Elektrobank - Catchy lyrics make this song a techno genius.
10/10
4 Piku - A brilliant song with interesting beat /8/10
5 Setting Sun - Noel Gallagher pays tribute to the Chemical Bros with this hugely powerful song. 10/10
6 It Doesn't Matter - A robot singing "it doesn't matter" through the whole song is a bit boring but is made interesting with a cool beat. 8/10
7 Don't Stop The Rock - A good song with a cool bass beat. 9/10
8 Get Up On It Like This - My personal favourite, the bongo tune really gives this song the deep mood that it needs. 10/10
9 Lost In The K-Hole - A slow song but adds variety to the album. 9/10
10 Where Do I Begin? - Beth Orton sings this suspiciously quiet song for a while and then a techno beat is added. 8/10
11 The Private Psychedelic Reel - A very long song (about 10 mins) but a powerful song. 9/10

5.0 out of 5 stars The Definitive Album for a Reason, July 5 2003

It might not be as legendary as Exit Planet Dust is (afterall, "Brothers Gonna Work it Out" is on that album, not this one), but this is the definitive Chemical Brothers album for a reason. Nearly ALL the tracks are high quality, yet accessable to a skiddish audience. The sound was slightly ahead of its time in 1997 as groups such as the Chems and The Prodigy tried to push electronica out into an unsuspecting audience, but this album still maintains a mainstream sensibility, wihout selling out. The music is beautiful Chemical Brothers production at its finest.
