5.0 out of 5 stars Sublime! Buy it and you're hooked, April 16 2004
This review is from: Scott 3 (With Orig. Art) (Audio CD)
The four Scott Walker's albums, produced in barely three years, are painfully beautiful, and Franz's Svengali touch sustains what might otherwise be period pieces today. He hired the finest arrangers - Wally Stott, Peter Knight, Reg Guest - and their orchestral work surrounded the voice in weeping splendour. By Scott 3 and Scott 4 Walker concentrated solely on his own work.
Never mind the more rockily credible Tim Buckley or Nick Drake or John Martyn; their folk-derived musings seem Lilliputian next to Walker's grand designs. Too bad that his disappearance from view was comprehensive enough to lose him his place with a generation that would venerate singer-songwriters.
Essential!

5.0 out of 5 stars El mejor disco de Scott Walker (Scott Walker's best), Mar 8 2004
By
This review is from: Scott 3 (With Orig. Art) (Audio CD)

5.0 out of 5 stars No Afterthoughts, July 14 2004
By
Joshua Shen (Alhambra, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Scott 3 (With Orig. Art) (Audio CD)
There are afterthoughts in our life, nostalgic ruminations that keep us suspended in precious times. These moments never really existed in reality, yet our senses recall them vividly because they're the imagery of holiday specials, of merry cheers and happy hopes. Yet, although the sounds are achingly lovely, the juxtoposition with Walker's lyrics on the downcast, downtrodden, the vice and vain creates a sophisticated (if too ironic) layer of complexity.

The opening track 'It's Raining Today' speaks volumes about the feeling of afterthoughts, painting a delicate portrait to a trite theme. The closing chorus in 'Copenhagen' is simply the most luscious example of melancholy ever recorded.
