Fantastic CD,

This is one of the best debut albums I've heard in a long time. I was especially pleased because I normally wait to hear 2-3 songs from a new band before I run out and buy their CD. Boy, did I make a smart choice getting this one after only hearing the song Kryptonite. Very addicting music. Excellent bass player. If you like Collective Soul, Creed, Soundgarden, or Days of the New, you'll really like this. I'm confident that these guys will release more songs than just Kryptonite off this CD. In fact, it's not nearly the best song. This is a must have CD for anyone who claims to love good Rock & Roll. I look forward to album #2.

Another boring album. shall I continue There is really only one song worth listening to that WON'T put you to sleep. Ok, so It's actually pretty hard to fall asleep with it on because it bores you to death.it was recommended to me by a friend and I regret spending money on it. Out of their two albums I only like 3 songs so it's easier to just buy singles. The quality of the songs was great , don't get me wrong, they have potential. It's the actual songs and combination of lyrics to music thats so bad. Maybe next time.

a nickle or two,

if i had a nickle for every time i had listened this CD striaght through without skipping a track i would have... a nickle or two! The fact of the matter is that it has a couple of songs worth a listen, but they arent numerous enough to warrent the cost of the CD. A bit of a disapointment. There are also alot of bands who are better and more consistant, my advice... buy one of their albums.Over all it has but a few reasons why u would want to buy it: 1. You are a die hard fan of theirs (highly unlikely) 2. The head of the Russian mafia has a gun to your head(slightly more likely) 3. For keeping the King of England out of your face (just play "Down Poison" and he'll run(a decent reason but u will also suffer)) 4. As an expensive coaster (nuff said)

Very raw, no-nonsense rock!,

While their second album is already selling huge and on its 4th single, I'd like to recall their first album from late 1999. Real, raw, no nonsense rock and roll! They tear it up on Kryptonite, Duck and Run, and much of the second half. And Loser is a good power ballad. Starts off innocent, then before it starts to go into Diane Warren overkill after the 2nd chorus, it avoids that and goes into that crashing section of guitars for some 20 to 30 seconds, before going back quietly again to its normal state! Dynamite songmaking there! The album kind of recalls late-'80s rock and AC/DC's "Back In Black" with the raw attitude. The landscapes of the songs match well to the area where they're from, Escatawpa, Mississippi, where I went through that area to Biloxi in 2001 and 2003. It's still young right now, but it's going to be a classic album 5 to 10 years from now!

I actually bought this album for my friend and just feel in love with this from the moment I heard it.... Firstly it was difficult to find this album this side of the globe and when I did I was the lucky one to capture the last in the store.... I cant get enough listening to loser, not enough, be like that, life of my own and better life.... Now I have an even more tough task of getting a hold of Away from the sun..... the same store are going to be importing them for me and I cant wait till I can get a hand on them......or else i will need to shed some extra dough to import it myself from amazon.... if you like this kind of music just grab it without thinking twice...

Three doors down exploded with a pretty good Debut album. Everyone knew the hits Kryponite and Loser, but the disc continued to be quite solid until near the end of it. Still a good performance and a good CD.My top 5:

an ok debut,

For the most part, I do like 3 doors down, or else I wouldn't still be listening to their music. But the fact remains is that the debut album "The Better Life" really doesn't provide a great all around cd. The best song in my opinion is "Duck and Run." A fast upbeat rock and roll song that stand amongst the other tracks. "Kyrponite" which made the band famous is probably my 2nd favorite song, and obviously a fan fav among many. "Be Like That" which appeared on some American Pie soundtrack is the only song that slows down the pace of the music. It as if it almost doesn't fit on this album. A good analogy with this is with "Good Riddance" on Green Day's "Nimrod" album. However, it does hold it's own. "Loser" a song that literally is self-esteem demoralizer is somewhat between that of "Be Like That" and all the rest of the songs. It is my 4th fav behind the 3 mentioned. Now comes the blah... What gives this album only 3 stars is the fact that they had to heavily rely on their singles to carry the load, similar to Bush's debut in "Sixteen Stone." Although that may not be bad to the average music fan, it is devastating to the avid music listener in search of good songs not played on the radio, which is me. I burn for good songs that no one really ever hears besides the true fan...and "The Better Life" just didnt' have that. "Not Enough", "Life on My Own", "Better Life", "Down Poison", "By My Side", "Smack", and "So I Need You" really just sound the same in a sense. This array of repeated sounds is similar to Caroline's Spine, "Monsoon" and Default's "The Fallout". Its not that I don't like the songs, it's just that I wish that there was more substance to some of the songs. Sadly enough, my favorite "Duck and Run" fits in this category, but it's been crammed so much in my head that I like it more than the others. Three Doors Down is a good band, as they show in their sophomore release in "Away From the Sun" but the first one was just average.

Garbage, rubbish.,

This review is from: 3 Doors Down:The Better Life (Audio CD)
This is music for the small minded masses of middle America. Nothing new, horrible fake sounding production, no dynamics, hookless hooks, embarrasing lyrics, half a$$ed "heaviness", annoying southern drawl. This is a terrible, terrible band. You have to live in a cultural vacuum to be able to tolerate listening to this drivel.

One day I was in the Fred Meyer electronic section, I wandered over to the music. Soon I saw 'The Better Life' by 3 Doors Down, I had no clue who they were or what their music was like, but I was bored and wanted to listen to something new, after all I had the money, so I bought it. When I got home I put it in my stereo and started listening, and since then I was hooked. Later I found out that a lot of my friends thought it was awesome, that's when I resolved to talk about music with my friends more often, cause maybed just maybe, they'll recommend something just as good as this to me, or maybe better...if that's possible^^ It's worth your money, trust me...
