There's not much bad to say about the Microplane series of graters. They perform a job, and a bit more, and do it very well.

The grater/zester can also be used for different things, but the cover lists its potential well. You can use it to grind down hard nuts, powder dark chocolate, grate parmigiana finely, zest citrus, or any other application you could think of. I use it for fresh nutmeg nuts.

I've seen Microplane products be used bi-weekly for 5-6 years without losing sharpness, which is a testament to the steel they use in their products. Make sure you hand wash with mild detergent and a non-abrasive pad as soon as you use it, and you'll have a lasting tool in your kitchen.

As a benefit, these even come with a plastic cover to protect the blade when you don't use it. Just press on the sides of the plastic to push it back on.

I am giving a very positive review of this item since it's easy to use and does a great job at zesting--exactly what I wanted it for. I doubt if any of the people who gave negative reviews will revisit this site but, I think I ought to point out that the Microplane comes in various sizes for various uses--most particularly grating cheese or grating hard items. This is not a "one size fits all" item. I wish those who complained about too-fine cheese shreds would spend a litttle time in a gourmet store and check out the various versions of the Microplane. I think they would change their mind.

The Microplane Classic Zester is a great little kitchen tool. It is very easy to use and easy to clean.

I use it for citrus zest and grating hard cheeses, nutmeg and chocolate. I keep fresh ginger root in the freezer and grate it on my cooking rasp-- no strings! This is so easy to use and easy to clean. Just rinse out right away. The only caveat: the results with this are very fine so if you want big curls of zest, use something else.

I am buying several of these as stocking stuffers for Christmas this year.

I bought this as a gift for my parents and it works like a charm. A great microplane, very sharp.

Fantastic product, easy to use, very effective, no effort at all. Very happy with it and would recomend it highly.
