Great soundtrack, Great movie butmissing a few tracks such as "Sussidio" one of the key songs in the movie. The music is a key factor of Bateman's personality (or lack thereof). This is a must with so many great songs, but remember thats not all there is....

Like any cd ever released, this could have been better, plus or minus a few songs. What's missing most are the "Phil Collins", and especially "Huey Lewis" songs. "Hip to be Square" was THE song of the movie. However, what's included is all good stuff, be it 80's tunes, or more modern rock. You can't go wrong with "The Cure", "David Bowie", or "Daniel Ash" (from "Love&Rockets"). The tracks from "Eric B. & Rakim" and "Tom Tom Club" are fun, and the "Information Society" song, well that's pure energy of course. Probably what makes this soundtrack a "cut" above the rest, are the monologue's from Patrick Bateman himself. He covers everything you need to know about diet and exercise, emotions, and "Whitney Houston". Bloody good movie too.

One Song Is Worth It All,

The music on this CD is average at best, most of which can probably be found on some '80's compilation for a cheaper price. But there is one song here that's worth the full price of this CD. Dope's verion of You Spin Me Round will blow you away. Edsel Dope belts this song out with a few slight adjustments to the lyrics in a very successful attempt to make the song "dope." I highly suggest this CD to everyone.

Pretty Good Soundtrack,

For some reason, I ended up buying the American Psycho soundtrack before watching the movie. I'm not sure why I did that, but I'm glad I did. In my opinion, the CD is slightly better than the movie. (I can't comment on the book, however, since I haven't read it. Don't intend to either, not after watching the movie.)Some of my favorite tracks: You Spin Me Round by Dope (#1, great cover of Dead or Alive's song; depending on my mood, I like listening to this version over the original), Something in the Air by David Bowie (#3), Watching Me Fall by The Cure (#4, long but hypnotic), True Faith by New Order (#5), What's On Your Mind by Information Society (#11, appropriate song for the movie), and Pump Up The Volume by M/A/R/R/S (#12). There are a couple tracks on here that I always skip over, but besides those few, this is a pretty good CD. Worth owning if you liked the movie and/or the bands on here. Also, if you're a Christian Bale fan, then you'll probably enjoy the four Patrick Bateman monologues sampled from the movie, as well as a few pics of him in the CD booklet. (Note: Because Huey Lewis disapproved of the content in the movie, he had his song removed from the soundtrack. I've heard there are a few copies with the song included, but I'm not sure if this is true or not.)

Dark, chill, and catchy - matches the film's mood,

If you're buying this to get songs like "Walkin' On Sunshine", "Hip to Be Square", and "Simply Irresistable", then go buy an 80s Compilation. However, if you want that sonically matches the mind of Patrick Bateman (AP's main character), then this is it. You get the darkness ("Something in the Air", "Watching Me Fall"), the blank hopefulness of a late 80s dance club ("True Faith", "What's On Your Mind", "Pump up the Volume"), the urban hip-ness ("Paid in Full"), and the twisted agression ("You Spin Me Round", the re-make of "Paid in Full") that makes up the persona of Bateman. All the songs fit his mood well and also, more importantly, sound good. The Bateman monologues are all classic and worthy of memorization and recital at random moments [...]. Probably my favorite soundtrack ever. Then again, it IS based on a film and book which are my respective favorites of each, so perhaps my opinion is a bit skewed...

Not the obvious choices,
By
This review is from: American Psycho Controversial (Audio CD)
Fans of the film will immediately notice that the most obvious and up-front tracks from the film have not been included on this disc. Sussudio, Hip to Be Square, Simply Irresistible, Walkin' on Sunshine, Lady in Red--none of these songs appear on the soundtrack. Which means people either like this disc or hate it. Personally, I do like what they have included here. However, I think the film warranted a better overall release, and I don't just mean song selection. For instance, like many recent films that have featured extensive period music (Grosse Pointe Blank, The Wedding Singer, Boogie Nights), it may have been a nice idea to release 2 separate CDs. One could have been the songs mentioned above, all of the obvious choices, and the other could be this one, the single offical release. While I appreciate the choice by the album producers NOT to put the most obvious tracks on the disc and instead opt for a more eclectic selection from the film, you still have to wonder how they DID NOT release another disc with Sussudio and the other major tracks as there have to be legions of people who would snatch that up.... As for the music, there are some good, fun late '80s tracks here. My favorite would be the classic Coldcut remix of Erik B and Rakim's Paid in Full. The other highlights include You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) by Dope, True Faith by New Order, What's On Your Mind by Information Society, and of course Pump up the Volume by M/A/R/R/S. Sure, they're all the most popular tracks, but they comprise very good selection and work well on one disc. Also featured is a David Bowie song from his last album that plays over the closing credits. Another non-80s song is The Cure's Watching Me Fall, which is given a fantastic remix treatment here from Underdog.... It's a fantastic, moody but dancy track with Robert Smith's distorted vocals. And on the subject of Goth there's also a nice Daniel Ash track.... Oh, and be sure to let the final track play all the way out. There's a bonus track of dialogue, featuring Patrick Bateman's serious, detailed analysis of Whitney Houston's music that's quite funny.

Wicked,
This review is from: American Psycho Controversial (Audio CD)
This soundtrack is 100% pure class. If there is a more subtle soundtrack to compliment a film I havn't heard it. If you like the film you'll love the music, though it does stray from using the traditional cheesy 80s music true to 1987 such as Rick Astely and Level 42 (Real Yuppie Misic). The best Soundtrack since Grease 2! Buy It Now! Top music at low low prices!
