4.0 out of 5 stars The Cloudiest Day
Don't Panic - This is a beautiful and mystical song. The guitar takes you to another world while the lyrics and Chris' voice really makes you look at the environment around you. 5/5

Shiver - A very sweet song filled with longing and heartache. Many could probably relate. 4/5

2.0 out of 5 stars Good Copycats!
I know saying this now might eventually cause a riot, but Coldplay ARE copycats! So are Travis, so are Muse, at least Doves do have some degree of originality and dignity. Everybody is raving about the album now, I've listened to this for a few times, tried to make myself like it. Well, the conclusion is... they are just ripping off Radiohead, not in the same way as...

Don't Panic - This is a beautiful and mystical song. The guitar takes you to another world while the lyrics and Chris' voice really makes you look at the environment around you. 5/5

Shiver - A very sweet song filled with longing and heartache. Many could probably relate. 4/5

Spies - This song reminds me of rowing a boat across a foggy lake. Very deep lyrics. And almost scary. 5/5

Sparks - The sound is very dark and depressing though the lyrics are not. I like the guitars. 4/5

Yellow - A Coldplay classic. The most uplifting song on the album and a very beautiful love song. PERFECT 5/5

Trouble - Great song. Makes you pity Chris.4/5

Parachutes - Very short. Not much to say. 3/5

High Speed - Another sort of upbeat song. Pretty Good. 3/5

We Never Change - My fave song on the album. Some might say its a little dark but ithink this song might give others hope for the future. Don't ask me how. I could really relate to these lyrics. A very modest song and it makes you realize how little material things matter. 5/5

Everything's Not Lost - I don't particularly like this song but it's great to lift your spirits on a bad day. At the end you can't help but sing along. 4/5

4.0 out of 5 stars Flight Without Parachutes, Dec 31 2000
By
This review is from: Parachutes (Audio CD)
First of all about Coldplay, Coldplay's music is from the alternative/indie variety following from such an artisit as Oasis but I must say that it is far from the type of music which Oasis play with more of a gentle approach and not as fast paced as say 'Roll With It' but more like Noel Gallagher's rendition. There songs are quite simular with not much change in variables of the music but it is there first album and the music is still of a highest quality.

I would buy the album because of the excellence and many top-notch tunes such as Yellow and the fantastic Trouble which I must say is one of the best tunes of 2000.

Overall, the album doesn't have much variety but is fantastic and I'm sure that Coldplay will keep improving in there music and will shine above the rest into the new year.

Everybody is raving about the album now, I've listened to this for a few times, tried to make myself like it. Well, the conclusion is... they are just ripping off Radiohead, not in the same way as Nirvana ripping off the Pixes, but in a way that makes the album sound cheap, maybe(? ) Coldplay will be the next Radiohead, they do make a few good tunes here and there, but NOT NOW! There are just toooooo many 'the next Radiohead' around, Travis, Muse...even Grandaddy(at least they try to make another 'OK Computer' instead of making another 'The Bend') now there is Coldplay. A parade of wannabes. It's time! Radiohead is releasing 'Kid A' soon, the landscape is going to change again! You don't believe? We will see!

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT ALBUM, Dec 27 2004

This CD is moody. If you want really uplifting music, this isn't the best album to pick up. The musical talent displayed in this CD is amazing. They have great guitarists, an amazing drummer, especially on the track Trouble, and great vocals and piano, both done by Martin. Great CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, Jan 16 2001

I have to say that this CD is one of the best I've bought in a long time. I had only heard "Yellow" before buying it and thought to myself, "there is no way that any song on that disc can be better than 'Yellow'." Well my music loving friend, the entire CD kicks BUTT!!! It rules in every way conceivable. The individual that gave this album only 2 stars needs to reexamine his or her idea of good, original music. This album is melodious and touching, rocking at times, soothing and comforting at others. The lyrics are like none I've heard before. The singer's voice is all his own, no "sound-a-likes" here! I think I'm in love with the lead singer...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Debut, Jan 22 2011

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Parachutes (Audio CD)
Coldplay released "Parachutes" on July 10th of 2000. The mature sound makes it difficult to view it as a debut album, but when compared to their more recent efforts it does come up a bit short, and the band itself doesn't seem to care for the album. Despite that, there are several tracks which are fan favorites and it is certainly not a bad album. The lyrics are positive, and the music is a bit moody which has become the band's signature style. The album was almost completely produced by Ken Nelson, who gave the band the freedom to explore who they were. There is one track, "High Speed" which was produced by Chris Allison who was to be the producer on their first album, but the band wanted more control and a more cooperative environment between themselves and their producer so they made the switch to Nelson.

The album opens with "Don't Panic", which is a short piece, but which was released in some countries as the fourth single from the album. It provides a good opening for the album. The second track, and first single in the U.K. (2nd in the U.S.) is "Shiver" which shows the influence that Jeff Buckley had on Coldplay. "Spies" is next, a bit different sort of lyric and feel than most of their songs, but it still fits well. "Sparks" is the next track, a bit weaker than the other tracks, both lyrically and musically, it is still pleasant. "Yellow" closes the first half of the album. It is the second single in the U.K., and first in the U.S. from the album. The tune is catchy, though I find the lyrics rather weak. Nevertheless, the song remains one of the best known Coldplay pieces, and despite the lyrical weakness I still enjoy it.

"Trouble" is the start of the second half of the album. The third single from the album, and a moving piece about doing things you regret to those you love. The title track is next, and at 46 seconds this is by far the shortest piece on the album and an unusual choice to pick for the title song. "High Speed" is next, a song about trust and confidence in the person with whom you are having a relationship. "We Never Change" is a song about how we often don't take the best path in life, even when we know what it is, because we are who we are. "Everything's Not Lost" is the last track on the album, but there is a hidden piece called "Life is for Living" which is at the end of the 7+ minute track.

Coldplay consists of Guy Berryman, Jon Buckland, Will Champion and Chris Martin, who are credited with all the songs on the album. "Parachutes" is a good album, but there isn't as much diversity on it as I would like, and they are more adventurous on later albums. I would give this CD around 3' stars, but I am rounding down in this case because I think it is slightly closer to 3 than 4 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great beginning, Dec 16 2006
This review is from: Parachutes (Audio CD)
Not many bands can come up with such a strong debut album, but Coldplay managed it with ease. Full of good songs (3 or 4 outstanding songs), it contains many beautiful moments that leave deep and meaningful imprints.

Simple arrangements, gorgeous melodies, unselfish musicianship and good singing combine to produce superb songs such as 'Trouble', 'Yellow', 'Don't Panic', 'High Speed' and the very pretty 'Parachutes'. Easy listening it may be, but so are many of The Beatles best loved songs.

Coldplay will always have detractors because of their enormous (& well deserved) success, but it's plainly unreasonable after just a quick listen to this gem of an album.

5.0 out of 5 stars We live in a beautiful world, July 17 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Parachutes (Audio CD)
This album is absolutely awesome and suitable for diehard Coldplay fans and people who just like the songs alike. Chris' voice takes music to a new level, in the deepest dark depression and sheer radiant elation. My favourite song on the album is 'Don't Panic' but 'Spies' is great also. Oh, who am I kidding? All the songs are awesome!!!
